Small shop on the edge of Clive/Urbandale. Fast food Mexican and it was ok. Not bad but not my favorite. Visited after a friend spoke highly of it. Had the carna asada tacos with guacamole, and ordered some beef enchiladas with queso on top. Guacamole did not have any flavor. Carne asada didn't taste like carne asada I was used to. It tasted more of a roasted and chopped up birria meat flavor. Every taco shop is different and have their own flavor. This place is not my flavor. Queso on enchiladas was a little bland too. I did enjoy the guacamole salsa that is packable at their sauce counter. Total was $31.xx. Tap to pay was accepted. Quiet shop during the dinner rush. Lots of to-go orders coming into shop. Having heard good things about this restaurant, we popped in after work to a small, cozy venue. We ordered a small nachos, carne asada and fish taco combination. The steak nachos were served hot with lots of steak, guacamole and pico. Very tasty with the wide variety of hot sauces to try. Thankfully they have a heat chart for the sauces. The carne asada plate was piled high with meat(nice flavor) pico, guacamole, rice (average), beans (average). The fish tacos were served right out of the fryer. The breaded/fried filet's were crunchy and a nice piece of fish with lettuce, pico and sauce. Nice flavor, especially with the variety of sauces to try. So much food we had a to go box to fill. Overall service was fast and friendly. The space was clean and cared for. I'll return to try other entrees in the future. read more

I go here when I'm craving street tacos in Waukee because we don't have any taco trucks :( It's sufficient. But, I wish they'd let us order street tacos on their app. They have an online ordering system but it does not list street tacos? Very odd. To work around this issue, we always end up having to drive over to order, it's a bit inconvenient as lines can get a bit long. But worth it for the occasional street taco craving. I like that they have a sauce station with so many varieties of sauces and toppings. read more

I thought I would give this place. Another chance But it seems to have gotten worse. I don't know what everyone's ordering if they're giving it four stars but the car of thought it was just an oily cesspool of trash. Maybe they'll actually read these and fix it. Great Mexican option on Hickman. Tacos were very flavorful and the rice and beans had great depth of flavors. Not the average sides. The salsa verde and the salsa stand were nice as well and it was very busy for lunch which is always a good sign. read more

While the portions are huge the food itself was bland. There is a salsa bar with sauces and pico de Gallo which was also bland. I had the chicken quesadilla. The tortilla was soft, not at all warmed. Terrible service! I place two taco orders and she only gave me one then tried to call her and she hung up then tried to call again and she was rude. So had my friend go talk to her and she argue with me and my friend. I've been there multiple times and she has never been kind to me. read more

Open 24 hours! Decent Mexican place on the west side of town. Order at the counter and food will be served to you. My fave are the street tacos with onions and cilantro. I usually get chorizo, carne asada, and carnitas. They are larger in size compared to other street tacos. White cheese dip -- more on the runnier and smoother side. This place is pretty good for a late night bite. Went on a Saturday night and found out the close at 4am!!! That's crazy! They have a drive-thru that makes the late night munchies a breeze! They also have all the uncommon cuts (lengua, cabeza, tripas, and buche)- which are usually my favorites. I got street tacos and surprisingly they have a small and a large size. They give you a LOT of meat for the taco which is awesome! The cabeza was my favorite. The lengua was a bit dry and the tripas (I ordered crispy) we're good too! My friend got a carne asada burrito and it seemed to be mostly just meat. The meat was seasoned well but over cooked and kind of tough/dry. They have a salsa bar with a bunch of options which is great! They also have a lot of different agua frescas to choose from as well as a regular soda fountain. Ambience was pretty basic. Here's my snapshot on why you'll love this place: Huge portions and reasonable prices. Large Spanish speaking clientele (even though that's not the general area make up, which leads me to believe people drive here from a ways away) 24 hours. That means tacos, any time. Delivery - via grubhub & My Town 2Go. You don't even have to get our of your pajamas for this place, although you may want to make sure you have clothes on for your delivery driver. ;) And my biggest reason - this was our 2nd visit in 2 days. I absolutely love Maria's. Best addition to Waukee/Clive!!! I used to frequent the location off Grand. Their food is just really good Mexican food, the salsa bar is incredible, my favorite is the guac salsa which is a spicy avocado salsa, my friends shredded beef burrito was enormous and enough for three people. Priced extremely reasonably, open 24 hours a day, closed Sundays (not sure how that works for the 24 hours)! Located in the ninja sushi place that went out of business after a few months on Hickman Road, this is the best addition in the western suburbs in recent history, IMO. Staff was very friendly, bathroom was very clean, restaurant interior was simple and clean, absolutely no complaints whatsoever. We even got the pickiest 10 year old tagalong to try their enchiladas. When it comes to Mexican food, there is nothing in the area that surpasses the quantity and quality of what you order. I ordered a steak breakfast burrito, but ordered a second as I thought for the price, it wouldn't be that large. I was definitely mistaken and will have to eat the other burrito later on. This place has some pretty solid burritos for the price. And the queso is pretty good if it's not too runny. Chips are always fresh and hot when I've had them and the jarritos always nice and cold and goes so well with a steak burrito. Not a fan of the drive through and it looks pretty makeshift but it does the job ad long as there isn't more than 2 people in it. Mexican restaurants need some type of a hook to get people in the door around here other than calling you Amigo. Some are higher end (Malo, Blu Toro, etc), other rely on service or a special menu item. Maria's hook is higher quality food fast and a cool menu. I first noticed it when they moved into the former Cozy Cafe in a strip mall on west Hickman. Apparently there are several around the area. You order from the counter and they bring your food when it's ready. The most amazing thing, and maybe another hook, is every dish is displayed on an illuminated wall menu, and there are a lot of them. It's impressive as you can see everything, and even includes some dishes I have not heard of or tried. But after looking at a couple I'm inspired on the next visit. And there will be a next visit, at least. The food was prepared perfectly, served hot, and is plentiful. I cannot compliment them enough on how good the food and experience was. Breakfast and a drink was $8. Probably less than you'd pay for a Taco Bell meal, and 10x better (my only gripe was the plastic forks and knives, but that's really minor). To be clear this is not dining for entertainment, but nourishment. Lots of construction workers, groups out for a quick lunch, and several seniors. We'll be back. We just tried Maria's for the first time, in the three years we've lived here, and we were pleasantly surprised. Being from Texas, we know good Mexican food and as I'm writing this review, I'm wishing I had some more Maria's. The food was fresh and hot when it arrived, however, while not reflective on Maria's, but more so on the Grubhub driver, our delivery arrived with enchilada sauce sloshed all over the inside of the bag. Best dang breakfast burrito around. Portions are huge and well worth the price and wait time. Comparable to albelardos but this is WAY BETTER IMO. You can tell everything is made to order and I love their extended hours and drive through convenience!
