Out of all El Rey, this one is far the best. Employees are always friendly, food is always tastier and most authentic. They make the best PR rice. They also have stuff that the other locations don't, like parfaits, salads, a smoothie bar and Pan dulce. They have a bit of everything actually. I'm just salty that they don't have a restaurant image like the others, but they still have a hot food section and their cooks are excellent. I'll always make the drive to this location although I have another location closer to home. read more

I love El ray . We pretty much go every morning to buy fresh juice. Ladies at the juice Bar are super nice and make delicious juice and smoothies. I also love the bakery at El Rey . We buy freshly baked cookies , walnut cake and carrot cake. There is a lot of other things but these are our favourite. There's also a hot plate restaurant and a salad bar . El Rey also has great produce .The store Ambiance make me feel like I'm in Mexico. read more

This location is not the nicest but it works for me, they are little more pricey on some items, but its worth the trek for me.This is my favorite location now here are the reasons: -They have my favorite sliced cakes my personal favorites are the Oreo cake and mocha cake. -Dole Paradise Blend Juice -The BIG ONE I don't get followed and harassed. YES!!! Trust me I get harassed by security at S.16th Street location. I will save my story for my review of that location. The cold deli seems a little more expensive to me. El Rey just wanted to let everybody know that this place is still dynamite. Has been for years with any form of bomb ass Mexican food cooked, either from the "HOT DELI"..to the Masa they sell pre-made to make some batches of "Tamales" from scratch. To a wide variety of groceries you can find. EVEN WITH Back in the day "FoodMart" nice!! Seems whoever ends up in this location ends of doing well. I even remember this being JCPenneys!! I think this particular El Rey is the best grocery store in Milwaukee. It is definitely my favorite of all the El Rey stores. I like it particularly because of the produce section. The selection is awe inspiring and the prices are always reasonable. They have more types of cactus than I knew that you could even cook. Actually, the selection in everything is better at El Rey. They have more spices, cuts of meat, types of pop, and probably other things that I just don't buy. I really like the Salsa Rojo near the deli, it is just ground red chilis but it is great thing to have a tub of in your fridge. The guacamole is super strange, smooth but full of cilantro and what I think might be cheese or something white. If you like cilantro, that would probably be your jam. Another thing I love is that they have Coke products from Mexico which means it is made with real sugar, in bottles, and delicious. Once again, it is really cheap too. I think that El Rey's house brand tortilla chips are the best on the market, I can get enough of the plain kind. What I would recommend is these tostada that are Lemon and Spice flavored. Not only are they vegan (all of the flavored chips have some kind of milk products in them) but they have a different texture than the ordinary chips. I usually just smash the bag and eat them like chips. I am not vegan, I just think that putting dried sour cream and shit on chips is unnecessary. I know a lot of people i know like there hot, red colored chips. I've gotten pork tamales from the deli before and they were pretty good. For some reason they were a little too greasy, but if you aren't into making your own tamales they are a pretty good bet. I froze most of mine and just resteamed them to warm them up. Because they hold together so well, they are actually good for dipping. I haven't really tried anything else from their hot deli, but I bet it is good if you get before it has sat around to long. The vending machine selection is not as good at this location as it is for the El Rey on Burnham. They have more temporary tattoo and shit like that. read more

I hate this el Rey which makes me not want to go in any el rey here in Milwaukee. My first big issue was it was my daughter's birthday and I needed a quick cake. Stop at el rey and I grabbed the little single cakes that they had there and I took it to my daughter's birthday and when we ate it was stale. another incident that I had was My fishing trip we grabbed like 10 tacos and when I open them they were all moldy all of the tacos had mold on it. we didn't even have one normal Taco then all of the mangoes all of the BayDuras are moldy. And the lady manager and staff are mean. If you decide to go I recommend you make sure that fruits tacos or your bayduras are good. Are go to Cermak it's way better I don't got to worry about my food being moldy. read more

Awesome place to go. Excellent FRESH salsa. Quite possibly the best chips in Milwaukee and their "house" sour cream is good enough to eat as a dip with chips. They have an extensive hot foods deli with a ton of ready made choices. The bakery is equally extensive with of course tons of churros to choose from. They have a nice produce department with some harder to find produce. Also the best part is their small restaurant serving up freshly made food. read more

I feel like I'm being profiled every time I go into this store with their unprofessional security guards standing at the door. My money is just as green as anyone else's. I like to carry a messenger bag since I am a busy professional and that requires me to carry things around with me. I will not leave it at the front of the store with a stranger just because you guys can't do a good job at deterring theft. I also don't appreciate the lazy security just standing around until I come in and they try to follow me around like I don't see them. Maybe spend some money on a decent theft monitoring system. I like to support smaller stores but you made me feel uncomfortable so I'll just go somewhere else. read more

Not the greatest store. Bought chicken breasts and the next day they were rancid. It was so gross! So I would avoid buying meat here. Also bought some bakery and when I brought it home noticed it was molded. The bagels that I picked up were molded a few days after. I did not return the items because I threw away the receipt. Who would think chicken breasts would go rancid the next day?As for the bakery and bagels I thought the same thing and threw out the receipts. What happened to the chorizo??? New recipe?? Screw up?? It's been months since I last bought some of the El Rey Chorizo, and noticed a big difference the minute I took it out of the plastic casing. The consistency and firmness was missing. Plus it was VERY greasy, I used paper toweling to soak it up before I added the eggs. I used 1 dozen eggs for 3 pounds of Chorizo and you can't even notice, it's like they were absorbed. The flavor was also a miss, it's going in the garbage!! We've gotten used to the chips being under done, over done, too salty, no salt at all... on a regular basis! But we have steadfastly supported you!!! Your chips are amazing when they're right! You're a local business and your product DOMINATES when it's right. Tonight we had your chips for dinner. I was THRILLED to find your 1lb bag a Sendiks!!!!! EXCEPT that 75% of the chips were so broken that we couldn't use them to eat our delicious HOT/hot dip!!!...so disappointing that I had to drag out the Tostada( that I have on hand as not to put company into an awkward position when I put out snacks).
