Ok food, ok service. Went on a Sunday evening recently & got a couple of combo plates. I ordered the chicken enchilada combo with rice & beans. The enchiladas didn't have a ton of flavor, even though they were covered in red sauce. The beans were flavorful, but that's about the only thing that was good. The rice was just your standard mexi-rice. Don't know that I'd choose this option again if I return. Our server, Alex, could've been a bit more attentive. We had to flag her down twice for water refills. She was nice & chatty when she did stop, but having to get her attention a couple times shouldn't have been necessary. read more

The staff is extremely friendly, there are many other regulars I see here, and the atmosphere is overall welcoming. We know people who really like this place. We only have been here this once so... Of course I got a burrito, deluxe. My wife got the taco salad. Both were good. We finished her salad and took half of my meal home. This is the interesting part, the next day the burrito had almost no flavor. I have never had that happen before. I know things lose some flavor, I save things enough that I kind of know what to expect. So if I rate the burrito on the day served it might get a 3.5. But the next day only a 1. El Rodeo is the best choice for Mexican fare in Maple Grove. They have happy hour running from 2-8 all week in which you can get $2 bottled beers, $3 tall taps, and best of all, 2-4-1s on the house margaritas! That's only $5.99 for two very good margs. The margs aren't as sweet as most places (this is a good thing for me) so I asked why and was told the secret ingredient. You'll have to go in and ask for yourself, because I'm not telling! The service is outstanding, as our server had basically the entire non-bar area on a fairly busy night and he didn't miss a thing. I think his name was Jorge if I remember correctly. That guy deserves some extra credit/$$. The food is phenomenal, with just the right amount of heat. Make sure to order the cheese dip (only $4) to go with your freebie chips and salsa. So good! My wife and I have been several times and keep returning because the prices are hard to beat for the quality and service and the menu is quite large so it's going to take some time to try everything that sounds delicious. Rice was overcooked and flavorless, our whole table was also charged a "gratuity" fee of almost $20 when we were not going to tip due to bad customer service. When the staff was questioned about the fee they said that " it was in the menu that any table more than 6 people could be charged" we were never informed on that policy upon arrival and nowhere in the menu did it say anything about the gratuity fee that was noticeable. I met my friend there for happy hour/dinner at 4pm. It was semi-dead, we ordered drinks right away and also our dinner. Chips and salsa on the table quickly. Salsa was forgettable.
