The food was delicious and reasonably priced. The large margarita is indeed LARGE. The chipotle burrito and sante fe burrito are absolutely delicious and also very large. You get free chips, salsa and a spicy creamy ranch sauce that is unique to this place. We didn't have to wait for a table and the service was great. This feels like a traditional Mexican restaurant. I had had a random hankering for that south of the border flavor a while back. I had driven past El Lorito a few times and decided it was finally time to go. It's easy to find and get to, and there's plenty of shaded parking--essential on a sunny day in late summer. Mom and I both admired the decor--it was bright and cheerful, and the chairs and booths were obviously not mass-produced. We loved it! We also liked the fact that it wasn't too loud--we could easily enjoy a nice conversation. The service was cheerful, prompt, and helpful--our server brought us some warm chips and two dips (salsa and seasoned mayonnaise) to munch on while we browsed the extensive menu. There is a small vegetarian menu available, which is always encouraging. I went with the chimichanga. It was full of veggies and was served with rice, fresh tomatoes, and a good-sized blob of guacamole. The portions are generous--we both took home enough for lunch the following day. That said, the food was rather average. While nothing was particularly wrong with it, it wasn't particularly good either. It was largely nondescript. Overall opinion: this would be a good place to catch up with friends if the purpose of the meeting is the company. Parking was convenient, the ambience is conducive to conversation, and the service was good. This is a tough review for me to write as I hate to give restaurants bad reviews, but I think this may be the worst dining experience I've had in many many years. Stopped here with a few friends to grab an after dinner snack. The ambiance is exactly that of a chain Mexican restaurant in a Midwest suburb - many families surrounded by over the top decorations, and blasting music. The restaurant was mostly empty, so we were able to grab a table almost immediately around 7 pm on a weeknight. Then despite there being almost no one in the restaurant, it took almost 40 minutes for them to come take our order despite our trying multiple times long before then. We all ordered 1 dish each, pretty simple dishes to make - a salad, tacos, taquitos, etc. For some reason we waited another full 40 min for our food to come out, and then when it did, they only brought out mine and one of my friends. Then 5 min later they brought out a third. And then 5 min later came out and asked to confirm what our fourth friend ordered (it was 3 steak tacos), and then finally brought it out another 10 min later (20 min after I was served). On top of that, the servers never checked in on any of us, explained what was going on, etc. - we were left in the dark for almost 2 hours while waiting for our food to come out. On to the food, my taquitos were pretty bad. The filling was mostly empty, they were sort of falling apart, and super unevenly fried. On top of that, they tasted really bland. My friend's salad looked okay, and tacos looked decent, but my friend got rice and beans to accompany their tacos. She took one bite and almost threw up. I thought she was exaggerating so I took a bite myself and almost did the same. They were completely rancid, tasted like a mixture of half cigarette butts and half instant beans. It was one of the most disgusting bites of anything I've ever had, still haunting me several weeks later. We all pretty much said screw it, we are going to just go home and not eat anymore of this and tried to ask for the check. Another very slow step, it took 40 min for us to get the check back. I want to emphasize that I did not exaggerate any of these time measurements, we were there for almost 3 hours in total, for some of the worst food I've ever tasted. Came here for Valentine's Day with the intention of ordering food to go, but when we got to the restaurant we decided to stay because it was charming and not too busy! Parking was easy but also sort of weird, some people were parked parallel to the building and others diagonally with the parking lot lines. There was a bunch of snow on the ground so parking was kind of a free for all. When we walked in, we went to the bar (thinking we'd sit and order to go) but ended up choosing to sit at a booth. The decor was fun, classic Mexican restaurant vibes. All the staff were dressed in shades of red, pink, and black -- the colors of loooove! We were given a big basket of chips with salsa and white sauce immediately and put in our orders for drinks to make it in time for happy hour. Their happy hour is an impressive amount of time!! My one complaint is that I wish the chips were saltier, or something other than just thick chips. My favorite chips from any restaurant are Chipotle's -- the lime salt chips there have a solid grip on my heart. We got 4 drinks altogether, 2 lime blended margaritas (with fun blue salt on the rim), 1 strawberry blended margarita (red sugar on the rim), and one large Dos Equis in a huge frosted mug. Good stuff! The margs were $4.99 each, which was a great deal. The food we ordered were chorizo tacos and mixed fajitas. After eating an entire basket of free-flowing chips (oops), I was already ready to tap out. But! I prevailed. The 3 chorizo tacos came with fresh lime chunks to squeeze, and two tortillas per taco. The dish also came with a spicy smoky salsa (yuuuum) and avocado salsa. Very good!!! The fajitas were enough for a meal at the restaurant and two lunches from what we took home. They were seasoned well and easy to eat! Definitely recommend both tacos and fajitas. Our good experience with the food, nice drink deals, and kind staff will definitely bring us back to El Lorito. read more

AMBIANCE: The ambiance was fun, with cool painted chairs and tables. SERVICE: Although we were seated promptly and given waters and chips promptly, it took an extremely long time for us to get to place our order, for us to get the food, get the check, and pay the check. I ended up going up to the bar to pay to speed up the process a bit. Our server was nice and friendly, but despite wait staff seemingly available, we were not helped promptly. So... everything on your plate tastes exactly the same. Queso was sub-par. Exactly three pieces of shrimp in the shrimp burrito. My enchiladas were... not great. The tortilla was stale on the edges, the queso inside was completely unmelted. The pork was on top of the enchilada too? That part isn't a complaint, just an odd observation. My food was almost entirely undercooked (still edible, but not good), and my friend's food was all over cooked. The restaurant was barely half full and it took quite a while for us to be greeted, and to have food come after that. The music was quite loud, and the songs were all REALLY long. Few things in today's visit, so last time I was here over the summer I was treated like garbage by one employee and me and my pregnant wife just left, and I left a review about the experience. Tonight my mom my 6 month old daughter and wife decided to give el lorito a 2nd chance. As soon as we walked in the server that was rife from the last time send us to with another server which was good she was very nice and even tho the food was actually bad and tasteless we had fun with margaritas and beer, after we payed for our food, the server told me the manager wanted to talk to me and I said yeah told him to come but he told me to go toward him instead. Then he told me IF YOU WANT TO BE A COSTUMER ERRASE THE COMMENT. I was shocked then he told me Alex the owner call him to tell him that. I was super shocked dude! I just tip very well and i really thought, whats this people's problem. It's hard to say I told him no.. Then he stood by the door looking down on me and my family in a threatening way. No professional business will ever manipulate a costumer for a better review which I was about to do just for the good server we had for the Night. Look if you are latino don't come here, I used to work here 3 years ago and I remember the manager used to say to us that Latinos are bad tipers and blacks want free food,all the owner did was laugh and nodded his head. I was fire with out any explanation beside that the manager wanted me to tip the new busser 20 dollars just because he really wanted to get in bed with him and then I was out of the schedule because I told him to stop calling me at 11pm,12am and few times at 1am. The first time I was let go was because I didn't wanna work 40 hours plus with out getting payed and they moved me to other restaurant then ask me to comeback I really needed the money this is covid time we are talking. The second time another tantrum of management and ownership but the last one about the tips and the .manager calling me at 12 and 1am was enough so much work harassment from this people, a female coworker was harrase for her weight and the way she walk till she quit shortly after me. A wonderful addition as we were lacking a good Mexican restaurant in the area and El Lorito fits the bill. It looks like they took over a building that was previously a fast food joint (Wendy's?) and made some nice updates to give it that classic Mexican restaurant look and feel. Plenty of seating and the bar area is especially large with a couple of televisions to catch the games. I believe I saw a sign that Happy Hour is from 1 to 6 (Nice!!) during weekdays, but will confirm my next visit. Very fast and friendly service. We tried the Chimichanga Platter and Street Tacos. I thought both were very good, especially the Street Tacos. Very fresh and the spices and hot sauce were perfect. We went here for dinner on a weeknight to give this place a try. The restaurant was about 1/4 full. The outside still had a wendys vibe just with a paint job. The inside decor was so bright and crazy. The backs of chairs and the booths had vibrant 3d colored scenes on them. The bar took up about half of the restaurant. The BF was starting at cow buts behind me the entire dinner. The service was a little off. There were some weird convos happening with servers who would then approach a table that wasn't theres...something felt odd there and didn't make it the most welcoming. I ordered The enchiladas Rojas. They were fine, nothing too crazy or flavorful. They were edible but not memorable. The bf ordered a quesadilla and it was a mess! There was hardly any cheese and the juice from the fajita peppers was soaking the tortilla. It was insanely salty too. He ended up boxing it up and taking it home to see if he could doctor it up to be salvageable (which was not successful). Not a place that ranked terribly high for food or service so its hard to say if we will bother to give it another shot. read more

Finally a Mexican restaurant in the neighborhood! I still miss El Gordos. Housed in a former Wendy's, this location has been refurbished to be unmistakable as a Mexican restaurant. Service at lunch was fast and friendly. I got the street tacos with steak. My kid got the vegetarian enchiladas. It all tasted great even though we probably spoiled lunch with two baskets of chips. I enjoyed the Mexican music and although there were some TVs, I didn't find them distracting. I was surprised eating food ordered from here this time. I was reluctant because of my previous experience but my family wanted Mexican food. The vegetarian burrito was good primarily due to the variety of vegetables used, especially the peppers which tasted oven roasted. However, most of the other items were somewhat benign and all looked the same. I look forward to having my taste buds being challenged, not just getting filled up on a bunch of non-descriptive food that looks and tastes the same even though it has different names. My son ordered a white cheese sauce which I expected would have some bite to it but it was quite bland reminiscent of pablum and slightly more salty. Hands-down my favorite Mexican restaurant ever! I've been coming here weekly and getting my friends hooked as well! The food quality is excellent; everything comes out hot and fresh (and quickly!) every time. The portion sizes are enormous, especially for the price. I love the complimentary chips, salsa, and southwestern ranch dip, and my favorite thing on the menu is the cheese dip side! Just a classic white queso cheese dip but it is so rich and delicious for dipping the chips - order a large side as soon as you get to the table! I always get the quesadilla (get it "Supreme" with guac, lettuce, tomato on the side) which comes with a ton of rice and pinto beans, and sometimes mix it up with the pick-2 combo of quesadilla and a chicken enchilada. I'm not even a big enchilada fan and I LOVE this! It's packed full of juicy tender shredded chicken breast, I'm really impressed with the amount of chicken, the quality, and the flavor. Lastly, the service is always exceptionally polite and friendly. The bathrooms were really cute, and clean. The food left a bit to be desired. I am unclear If this is a chain but the decor, menu, and signage makes it look eerily similar to other kitschy Mexican restaurants I've been to. The environment is family friendly (at least in the afternoon). There is a tv but I would not consider it a sports bar. It's been packed each time we've driven by, and the reviews looked promising. So I was hopeful for a place where I could get some good rice and beans. The waitress and staff were very friendly and pleasant but seemed like they had a little too much to handle. There were a couple things that were off, like a missing side of guac, and really slow to pick up the payment at the end. As for the food I was pretty disappointed. Chips and salsa were good. The portion of salsa was pretty skimpy but was refilled once. The chips and salsa also came with a little dish of white sauce that kind of tasted like some type of creamy mayo salad dressing. For the meal the plates come out scalding hot, but somehow the food doesn't. Not sure how that happens. My enchiladas were warm but kind of soggy. Most of the flavor came from the cheese on top that tasted like a weird mozzarella. Then there is the side of rice, and 'salad'. The rice tasted like microwaved Uncle Ben's in the plastic pouch, and the salad is shredded iceberg lettuce with that weird cheese again. My boyfriend's fajitas came with beans, which also for some reason tasted like plastic, maybe it was the cheese's fault. After my initial disappointment in the food it did start to taste a bit better. It was definitely filling and we had leftover fajitas to take home. I get the privilege to be the first customer at this Tex-Mex chain in Hopkins (Nov 25, 2019). I thought the Open sign was a mistake but took the chance and waltzed on in. I've eaten at this chain before and they serve hearty portions with enough to enjoy for a secondary dinner the following day. I ordered a simple Chile Relleno and it did not disappoint! Tried this over my lunch break and will definitely be back! First, service was quick- which is great to fit it in over lunch and there were plenty of tables near by if you don't bring it back to your desk. About the food, I admit I've never had a tamale before so I was excited to try one, but not sure I'd like it. Turns out, I do! I got the red Oaxaca platter with green (medium) salsa, red (hot) salsa, pinto beans, and a side of chips. The tamala was had great flavor with some heat. A little dry, but with a little salsa it was on point. Both salsas were delicious but be warned they are not Minnesota heat level. The pinto beans were delicious and creamy. The rice was good, but not really worth it to me. The chips were also quite good and clearly not mass produced. I look forward to trying the other tamales! read more

This area could use a decent Mexican chain restaurant, so I'm glad this is around. I wasn't wowed, but the food was better than average, and the atmosphere was cheerful. This would definitely be a good place to gather for margaritas with friends, or for lunch with a group. I had the chicken enchiladas with mole. The mole was just okay -- I'm guessing from a jar -- but the chicken was nicely cooked. My dinner companions had a (too salty) quesadilla, and a noodle soup that had a nice herbaceous flavor. We also got jalapeños poppers, which were not spicy enough. Possibly the best thing on the table: the complementary chips and salsa, which also came with a mysterious creamy dip that was delicious. After a long wait for the latest Mexican restaurant in the area, El Lorito did not disappoint. It was the endless chips and dips to service to hUge menu choices to the topographical artwork on the booth seating ... and wow, what a transformation from the last place. They really pulled off a great Mexican food experience. Rewind. I am from Los Angeles and was raised eating fabulous Hispanic food. As a kid I was given a plate of hot peppers to munch on as a snack ... jalapeños were in my scrambled eggs. I used to be able to speak crude Spanish. When I went to undergrad in Colorado, it was more of the same. You get it. I am happiest eating this stuff and have been suffering for many years in Minnesota. My family had already been through a basket of chips and both dips by the time I had parked and sat down, but fortunately, all were promptly refilled. I love the colorful menu with photos of the items. Based on a photo, I got my first ever Chimichanga, which is really a deep fried burrito. First, because while I grew up eating Nexican, it was healthy. Nothing deep fried for me ... this was completely unnecessary, an artery clogging dish that would have been just as good not fried ... but that could just be my upbringing. I am eager to come back and try the many other dishes they have to offer. Went here for a late night dinner with my wife and WOW! The food was simply delicious. We ordered the enchiladas rancheras to split and neither of us had ever had carnitas that good. Everything from the entree to the sides (rice, beans, pico de gallo, lettuce, guacamole) was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Even the chips were really crispy and flavorful. Our server was very helpful in making recommendations and she was very pleasant throughout our experience. We'll definitely be back! read more

I've been here before and had good experiences, but last night was something I have never experienced in any restaurant before in my entire life. They brought out the incorrect food for my entree, and when I mentioned this, they tried to blame me for not ordering correctly (even though the server had to go check the menu to make sure I was right, which I was, they didn't even know their own menu) and they said that this was the kitchens 'default way of making something' even though there were two options of the way the dish could come. There was nothing they were going to do to correct this. I'm pregnant. I already have a hard time eating food that isn't appealing, and I asked them to remake it the correct way I had wanted it. They refused. I was there to talk over my baby shower with my sister, and this really soured our evening. I didn't want to make big deal out of this, even though it was important to me (I don't eat out much anymore because we can't afford to) but needless to say, I will never be returning or giving business to this restaurant. I've never experienced a restaurant who forces you to eat and pay for food you didn't order and won't do anything to correct an error. It's obvious because of this poor policy that this restaurant is struggling, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it close down soon. read more

The steak fajitas wasn't steak cut up in even strips. This doesn't look like $20 worth of steak. The serve gave my sisters order to the wrong people and tried to convince her to have there's. My husband and I were in the area and decided to try this place! I'm glad we went! We were seated immediately and were brought out fresh chips and salsa right away. We ordered queso to go with and it was pretty good! I'd order it again! We shared the Parrillada which is more than enough food for two. It came out in a timely manner and was really good! Our server was so kind and had a great personality. You can't go wrong with this place. It isn't the best Mexican food I've had, but I truly have nothing negative to say. I love love love love love Mexican food so this review pains me to write but please, for the love of all things Mexican, pass up El Lorito if you're looking for a good meal. While the Street Tacos are passable depending on which meat you pick, my personal favorites (Chorizo and Al Pastor) are not ones I'd recommend here and hence El Lorito just doesn't pass the taste test. The Al Pastor has pineapple in it (WTAF?) and far too much lime. El Lorito owners, please contact Andale Taqueria ASAP to learn how true Al Pastor is made. The service has been great the two times I've been here but it's really all about the food at the end of the day and I've tried enough of my usual favorites (eg. I stopped by there yesterday for Cinco de Mayo and there was a line of people waiting for food. They were pretty slammed with orders and only had 2 people working. I felt really bad that during the lockdown, they were working as hard as the could to keep up with the orders. They opened shortly before the lockdown in a converted Wendy's location. They did an incredible job on decorating the interior. Bar area looks very cool. I got my food and brought it home. I ordered the nacho chips and a Burrito Grande.. So good.. huge amount of food! Unfortunately there isn't a lot of good Mexican food places in St Louis Park area. This one replaces my favorite one that closed in Knollwood Mall years ago. I just ask you to be patient if you order here during the lockdown, the food is worth it. read more
