Excellent Fajitas (higher quality than flank steak, didn't taste like round steak much better). asked what kind of meat kitchen said sirloin-a bit hard to believe but no grisly meat excellent flavor. Large 3 flour tortillas lots of fixings. -2 larger than typical cups of salsa, warm good restaurant quality chips. I've only had Fajitas here. $25.00 Fajitas high portion of meat and lots of fresh vegetables. This restaurant has the last high quality good portions in Anchorage after our recent inflation. I only know about Fajitas. I'm cheap and expect a lot for my money. This meal never disappoints. Sh*t you Not I always get a 16 ounce cup of salsa for home. It was reasonably priced. Forced to leave a 1 star review, DO NOT!! Go here. On March 24th 2026 my family and | came here for lunch. We ordered chicken chimichangas, within a couple hours after leaving the restaurant heading home we devolped what we thought was food poisoning, we had to have a ambulance come to our house and take us to the hospital where we had been tested and came back positive with Botulism. After several hours of treatment in the hospital we finally got released at 5 am. I would leave a (-) review if I could. I do not recommend this place, not even as dog food. Awful place. read more

My opinion has changed, El Rodeo is tasty and reliable as a swiss watch! I've never been to the restaurant, but I often order from them on Doordash. They seem to be open later than everyone else and, the food comes out FAST. I love their quesadilla. It comes with chips, two salsas, and sour cream for about $14. You can't beat that! Their dinners are also very good but, the packaging can be a challenge, although the tricky packaging does ensure your food arrives hot. This place and Pedro's are neck-and-neck for my favorite fast-Mexican food. You can't go wrong with either! read more

We were long time customers of this establishment. No more. The food is always good, but there is a group of people that take the place over during football season. They are extremely loud they constantly curse, it's a family restaurant. Owners won't say anything because of the money they are bringing in. Time to find a better place to eat. read more

Went to El Rodeo last night for a first dine-in date night since covid. I think I'll keep looking for a Mexican spot. Went here because of the good reviews, but it didn't hit the spot. Service: There was no wait so we sat and were brought out chips, salsa, and water. Service was okay but slow. Never got refills on our water, and the server came back ~10min after we ordered to ask us what our entrees were again. The pace of the meal felt awkwardly slow. Atmosphere: It was moderately busy, but the noise from the loud patrons at the bar wasn't the best. We overheard the manager ask a woman to be quieter, so they at least tried. A lot of loud political conspiracy talk from the older generation. Pretty sure we were the only millennials in the place. Food/Drinks: The queso dip appetizer is a steep $11, but it was good. Portions are fair for the prices. The two green enchiladas (combo 25) were VERY spicy. The menu has it marked as spicy, but just know it's next level spicy. The chimichanga lacked all flavor. It made me sad. I only ate about 1/4 of it which I normally clean my plate. There was no cheese sauce over it, and the ground beef was mushy. I would try a different entree if we went back. I normally don't give restaurants poor review but it wad the service was given. Food was ok, but not impressive. Meat for the dishes we order had no flavor, considering is a mexican restaurant. We order the parredilla plate which is $58 for 2 people. We ordered it over the molcajete cux it had everything. When we got our dish, there were multiple items missing. Yes, meats and some were limited, such as shrimp, pieces. Really, so for 2 people you get one a piece. All the items were super small. When we asked about the items, we were told that those item are on the molcajete, they walked away. We asked for the menú. When they brought it, another waitress brought us one of the item, as well limited. We mention the other items and she said, that's only in the molcajete, then we pointed out the menú. Then she said, oh well we don't have that. In addition to that, not once did our waitress came to check on us to see if we needed anything besides when we initially got our order. The restaurant was not busy. I found your personnel unprofessional, they all need to be familiar when the menú and the food need some improvement. The charge for what we got was not worth the price. Didn't wow me. I've heard from several friends to come here that the food was good. The food was good. Carne asada tasty and authentic. My eldest said the salsa tasted like marinara. Huh? I don't know but all I know there was not nearly enough of the hot salsa brought which was firey and delicious! The service wasn't the greatest. Sort of inattentive. My son and I were watching what we thought was a mother and son converse at the bar. We couldn't help cracking up when she hit on him, he said bye then followed her out trying to play it off. Hey, seniors need love too! It was the best part of the whole experience dining there, besides the huge and strong margaritas. I know I'm picky when it comes to my Mexican. First time here and man was it great! From chips and salsa to our main food. Loved the spicy salsa. Can't remember what our main dish was but it was made for a party of two. It had steak, chicken, halibut, sausage, and shrimp. With plenty of onions, bell peppers and a couple of jalapeños. The wait staff was on top of things too. Wow, what a hidden gem! I have lived on the East side of Anchorage since 1982 and this is my first time here. I am pretty simple when it comes to Mexican food. I order the same thing no matter where I go, 2 crunchy tacos with rice and beans. El Rodeo did not disappoint. I had stayed away from the restaurant thinking it would be old and musky like the places around it. I was shocked to find that it was very modern, clean, warm, and inviting. Everyone was friendly and service was quick. Sure the meal is $2 more than Burrito King, but getting chips and salsa, a menu, and the ambiance of Mexican music in the background as well as the option to order a margarita. Ordered Mother's Day dinner yesterday it was a pretty large order. Call the restaurant to inform them that I was missing something from one of the dinner plates. The person that answered the phone said that it was the delivery company's fault, and that I should contact them. How in the world would it be the delivery person's fault ? when the restaurant is the one that pack the order. That made no sense. The food was cold the beef they are now using isn't the same. El Rodeo is a somewhat recent discovery for me (as in the last year). When my recent neighborhood Mexican restaurant went out of business and my other regular place started adding sauce to their fajitas and as such thickened that sauce with flour, it sent me back to searching for my next discovery. Even though I went gluten free in October of 2017, I can still go to a Mexican restaurant and order fajitas if they don't marinade them in a thick sauce. Which many places tend to do in Anchorage. However if fajitas are marinated using lime juice and a light oil, I'm good. I just bypass the plate that usually accompanies the fajitas and stick with the platter of meat and veggies and get corn tortillas. But I digress. I had read good reviews about El Rodeo in the past and had family members that had been there without me so decided to give it a try when we had a family celebratory dinner. Upon walking in we were warmly greeted an seated. Of course I ended up ordering the fajitas. Overall it seems like El Rodeo is much like my other former neighborhood Mexican food restaurant - a neighborhood hangout favored by the locals. The location itself can be difficult to get to and parking can be that much harder to find. The lot has narrow parking spaces and some bozos just like to park anywhere. Much like the experience last time I was there when someone parked right behind my SUV and made it very difficult for me to get out. The first time I went there was road construction going on with Muldoon Road and again it was difficult to get around. The meals have always been piping hot savory and servers have been fantastic each time I have gone. I have read in other reviews that recent experiences have shown poor service. That has not been my experience. The servers I have dealt with have actually been some of the friendlier of the restaurants I have been in here in Anchorage. As many people in Anchorage knows by experience, it can be a difficult place to find decent Mexican food. But with my recent experiences and solid meals each time I have been here, I will definitely keep coming back. read more
