The service was on point. They have a massive whiskey bar downstairs. They have an excellent menu of craft cocktails. They also have excellent mocktails. I will critique their bourbon selection only because they have a number of bourbons that are 18+ years old that they're trying to sell for Scottish and Japanese prices which are based on reality. Bourbon is not any good out of the barrel past 12 to 14 years. Corn is not the same as grains. The sugar is degrade and get dark after 14 years in spite of some companies selling some of their older swill, trying to get rid of it as premium. They were very nice. I gave the bartenders and recommendations of things that actually are worth that kind of money in the bourbon world. There was plenty to find that was not expensive and quite excellent. The only negative? The Host stand at the top of the stairs needs people who have more pleasant personality. How you greet people in the restaurant is absolutely imperative. It sets the tone for the whole meal. The whole experience. They seem to think that their job is to shoot people off because the restaurant is booked, but they do it in a manner that will make sure people don't come back. It's a little too New York curt. Smiling,and some good grace, would not hurt either of them. When they tell you, it's time to be seated, engaging people and making eye contact would certainly also help them look a little more human as well. Do make reservations. She then washed dishes for the next 5 minutes....in which time she could have made the drink easily. I Just got up and left, it looked like I wasn't missing much from what I saw. Never been to a bar where they greet you and then won't make you a drink and then proceed to ignore your group. Despite decent reviews I wouldn't waste your time making a trip here but that is up to you.

This is a distillery first so they are producing their liquors on site. She entrusted me to be her first espresso martini drinking partner so I had to deliver. When I saw Anchorage distillery had one on their December cocktail list I knew we had to try it. I was not disappointed. It was an extremely well balanced espresso martini. I also got a cinnamon moonshine cocktail called ugly Christmas sweater. This one had toasted marshmallow & maple syrup. The flavors were a bit more watered down in this one, but I think that's just because it was over shaken. Overall this cocktail program is impressive. The bartenders are knowledgeable & efficient. However, one of the women I'm seeing is into novel experiences (and is also a good dancer, TBH) and I wanted to hang out with her this week so...there I was. There is a free beginner dance lesson every Wednesday. The instructors are good, really good. Arguably too good. I'm such a n00b that I didn't understand most of the jargon. Jargon that most people have probably known since middleschool. I guess I just need a "total n00b" class to be offered in the future. Anyway, I'm trying to challenge myself so, I still tried. I *kind of* got the dance. My steps were innacurate and but I didn't run into anyone and my timing was A-OK. It was a really fun experience now that I'm not out on the dance floor struggling through "syncopated steps". (whatever the hell those are)
