All four things my husband and I have tried now have been absurdly tasty and fresh, including the flavor combinations not found in other Latin American food. The staff is so friendly. The 20 minute wait for the food is well worth it- it means it's being carefully prepared and fresh! We've had the coconut shrimp, the beef pastelitos, and the carne molida con tajadas. Fantastic!

    Banana flan with chocolate.

The molcajete is a house specialty that layers Mexican flavors in a steaming hot broth - very good. So were the house made corn tortillas. The ambiance is nothing fancy, but it works. It is challenging in Seattle to find good Central and South American cuisine, but La Cabaña is great. So glad we tried it! Plus, they have parking.

Last night, it took 15 minutes after we sat down for someone to just ask us, "has anyone helped you?" Twice when we ordered pupusas for our toddlers with drink orders, the kids' pupusas don't arrive until AFTER everyone else's main dishes have arrived (and after we have to remind the waitress). Cocktails have been forgotten, which we have had to remind them on as well. To our server's credit, she apologized many times and said the restaurant just got super busy at once. However, we noticed other tables (who arrived after us) were attended to and served sooner than we were. Given all the disorder, our family has decided we are just going to get takeout. The food is still excellent, but we are frustrated with the service.

Like Mexican restaurants if you can make a good taco, a lot of the other food is worthwhile. I got it to go and when I got to eat I basically had to deconstruct it so I pick out the bad parts. I ordered a chicharon con queso papusa. I really know chicharrones well and regularly buy them from small carnicerias and Philippine delis and though the style is somewhat different from place to place I know what is good and not. This was a bunch of fat gristle mostly with a weird cheese consistency. My first clue in this horribly dangerous neighborhood was the outside but I didn't trust my gut. Instead I punished it! I'm not sure if El Patio is named after the big outdoor area in front that is right on the worst part of Aurora with hookers and homeless but it's a horribly run down building. That doesn't always deter me if the food is good. I also felt like they don't like white people or perhaps the attitude from the lady was just because I got a small order to go?? I've noticed now that their reviews going back to say 8 years ago show generally good reviews and pictures of outside that show brightly painted patio type seating and umbrellas and a clean exterior. Fast forward to now and the place is a dump that shows that they don't care. I truly felt that in their service and food and many more recent reviews say the same. I call this "alternatives to traditional Mexican food" and there are so many other great choices for that in our area!

This is the best burrito in all of Tacoma/Lakewood!!! I tell everyone to try them. People don't know what they are missing, because they are just getting pupusas. Who would think they would have great burritos. So, these are not like any other burritos, because they are not Mexican. They use their delicious black beans, their white rice with a few little veg, sour cream, onions, cilantro, you can get really good chile sauce if you want it spicy. The sauce is so good. No cheese... can you believe it? Cheese is not even needed. You can get chicken or carne asada, or like we got, no meat and they will add avocado slices. I really wanted no meat, and platano frito added. This is what we used to get, and it's great. They should add a no meat option to the menu, and also the platano option. Everyone that loves unique delicious burritos, come check this place out. The guy that took my order was friendly, and even made our burrito half no cilantro. Thanks! They get busy.

I ordered to-go, and I am genuinely surprised that they do not have more condiments available, especially with the salsa as I got 4 pupusas. That way u get all that u need. Better inspection on my end could have been done, but just :o at the...stinginess. That sounds like a harsh word, I know, but how else do I describe it...?

The chips were hot and made fresh. Should out to the accompanying salsa. At first taste, it started off sweet and then had a little bit of heat. It tantalized the taste buds. The decor was nice and had Latin murals. They also had a small store in the corner that offered Latin goods like chips for sale. Service was great and friendly.
