    Lomo saltado and arroz chaufa
    Alex C.

El Rey in South Seattle easily ranks as the top spot in Washington for authentic Peruvian flavor. My family and I always order the duos and trios so we can experience a variety of dishes, and once again, everything was packed with bold, nostalgic flavors. The lomo saltado remains the juiciest in town. The ceviche took me back to memories of my cousin preparing it back home, the arroz chaufa reminded me of classic Chifas in Peru, and the huancaína noodles brought back moments of my aunt's cooking. That kind of emotional connection speaks to the authenticity of the food. The service team is friendly and helpful, though there's room for improvement in being more proactive--especially with larger parties. Simple touches like checking for napkins, utensils, and general needs would elevate the overall experience. The restaurant also features a 21+ bar area that looks like a fun Friday night spot--I'd definitely be a regular if I lived nearby. The ambiance is casual and homey, nothing upscale, but that's part of what makes El Rey feel so special: it's genuine, welcoming, and full of heart.

Thanks to a friend's recommendation, we enjoyed a couple's dinner at El Rey Peruvian Restaurant in South Park. Heck, I never would have found it otherwise. I absolutely love Peruvian cuisine and was so excited to find such an authentic and cultural restaurant close to home. They have had their first location up in Mukilteo but wanted to open up in Seattle. I was shocked to not find any reviews given that it opened in September 2024. Score! Our group agreed to try something we hadn't had before. For me, it was the drink Chicha Morada which reminded us of a chilled mulled wine but made of purple corn. Then came the ceviche made of white fish, salt, lime and onions. The simple ingredients and flavors were so fresh and tasty. We also ordered Lomo Saltado (their nation's take on a teriyaki beef), Jalea (a pile of lightly breaded and flash-fried seafood consisting of oysters, mussels, white fish, shrimp, and calamari that weren't surprisingly overcooked), Chaufa ('arroz chaufa' is a Peruvian fried rice that comes from the country's Asian immigrant influences) and Tallarines a la Huancaina (usually I have papa/potato or pollo/chicken with this Peruvian yellow chile sauce, but they served it on pasta which wasn't my favorite; yet had a nice creamy texture with a tiny kick). All in all, we loved each and every one of our food items. Everything appeared to be homecooking and made with South American love. The waitstaff was also sure to also accommodate our dietary limitations and remained attentive. The space isn't anything special besides some painting and a small bar in front. We will definitely be back. Welcome to the neighborhood, El Rey!

Receipt where they had to change the prices after catching them trying to up charge us and added the last three charges out of spite

Been here twice, but now sadly will never come back due to the service and charging more than what the menu prices says. The food was decent, the ceviche and the chicken wonton soup and the lomo saltado was smaller the second time around and lacking the Smokey flavor. The real disappointment was the slow service and when we got our check. They tried to charge us $15.99 for the wonton soup when it's $12.99 on the menu. Then $18.99 for the 1/4 chicken when it shows $17.99 and $19.99 for the lomo when it says $18.99. When we confronted the servers the lady then got upset and said she was going to add charging us for a Togo container and bag and aji on the side out of spite. You can see on our receipt they had to charge us the correctly with the custom prices and added the extra costs. So if you come here just make sure to look at your receipt to make sure you're not getting scammed.

I came on a Sunday morning for a pollo a la brasa to go that I've been craving for weeks, paid close to $45 with fries, salad and tip. When I made it home roughly 15 minutes later and serve the pollo, I realized the chicken was cold to the touch, hard, and dry. The fries were soggy and cold as well. The salad was the only thing that was edible. The chicken clearly was cooked the day or days before and it wasn't freshly cooked the same with the fries. This is so disappointing because I'm Peruvian and I know what I'm expecting but it also ALWAYS seems that it is your own Peruvian peers the ones who try to screw you over. This is so disrespectful and disgusting! This has never happened to me at an American restaurant for example. Just next time save yourself the trip of coming here and go straight to San Fernando. At least I have never received old food from them. Never coming back here. I can't speak for the other food but once being served leftovers I don't plan to ever give this place another chance.

Feels like I was transported to Peru :) opened 8 years ago…read more Ambiance, lovely service and of course the food. Went on Tues lunch- it was chill. DUO #1: CEVICHE + ARROZ CON MARISCOS $34 The seafood was tender and had octopus, calamari, shrimp and one mussel. Portion was large! LOMO SALTADO / Peruvian Stirfry Loin $23 The beef could be more tender. Fries and sauce were good (lacked the aji Amarillo) . Zero spice with option to add post. Good value ( I don't say that often these days) Parking available. Located in a quiet subtle strip mall. Highly recommend!

Wonderful little family-run Peruvian restaurant that's worth a visit. Ignore the posts/reviews…read moreabout "service is bad." It's not. It's a small family-run place. Honestly, I get really tired of some Yelp reviewers who act so entitled and belittle a small place like this--it does not reflect well on the Yelp community. And here's a hint, you don't go to a restaurant 45 minutes or shorter before closing time and expect a perfect experience. In fact, many restaurants now close their kitchens to orders 30 minutes before that closing time; so stop acting so freaking entitled when you go in that time window. Okay, on to this place. We LOVED it. The service was friendly and helpful. No, it's not the fastest in the world, and mistakes were made (one for us with an ingredient we're allergic to--so ALWAYS double- and triple-check), but we didn't expect it to be. It was fine. The food was wonderful. These are Peruvians, and these are their family recipes. They may be different from certain other Peruvian family recipes. So what. Deal with it. The food was great. We will be returning. Many times. Loved it!

But this is a really upscale place and assume the place runs at full capacity during dinner hours. There is parking under the building and you can get your parking ticket validated by your server before leaving - so no stress with parking in downtown. Yes, this is an expensive place but since we were here during lunch hours, we were able to take advantage of the Executive Lunch - Set menu for $45 per person. Among us 3 people, we were able to taste everything available in that set menu and every single dish was amazing - like truly, from presentation to flavors, especially the 3 appetizers - so so very good! This is everything we had - Starters - 1. Sunchoke Cebiche - must try 2. Roquitas Nikkei - must try 3. Clásico Cebiche - must try Main 1. Wild Mushroom Saltado 2. Lomo Saltado 3. Arroz con Mariscos Dessert 1. Tres Leches de Coco - must try Service was very well timed. We had an amazing time. Great place for a team lunch/dinner. Location is perfect, heart of downtown but none of the road noise or human traffic. A wonderful add to downtown Bellevue!
