I've been going to My Hair Trip Salon since they opened. Nicole has been my hair stylist for almost all of that time. I'm one of those don't EVER cut my hair and just color the grays kind of gals. I have had long hair since I was in elementary school and have refused bangs, highlights, and layers. It's a PAIN to style because it takes forver to style/blow dry. My hair is now curly as opposed to straight as a board as it was when I was younger. However, I had been thinking of cutting off 10 inches for locks for love (and since it's been a HOT summer!). I went in with the news and immediately Nicole was super excited, but cautiously optimistic. She knows I don't do "change" with my hair well. I am her most boring client! She wanted to be sure I was comfortable making such a drastic change. I confirmed my intent as I had been thinking about it for several months and our adventure began! That same day, three other lucky ladies were chopping off their hair for charitable wig donations. So it was definitely a team effort across the board and made it more fun! I brought 4-5 pictures ranging from super short to should length. We reviewed and discussed each one. Utimately, we went with an in between cut so it wouldn't be such a drastic change. Nicole's recomendation was spot on because it was a shocking change. I absolutely LOVE my new "short" hair (just above shoulder length). She also recomended a different hair wig company that gave children wigs for FREE (instead of charging them like Locks for Love). She knew exactly how to rubber band the hair for submission and took care of everything. I spent at least a week running my fingers through my hair in complete awe after it was done. It felt SO light! It was EASY to style (curly OR straight!!). I LOOKED and FELT young!! and NO TANGLES omg!! I didn't want to wash it for fear I would never be able to replicate how great it looked and felt. Ultimately, it's been so much easier to style and I can still wear it up when I workout (!!). I had such a great experience at My Hair Trip salon. The whole process from booking an appointment to the finished product was exceptional And I will go back again! I had it in my mind to bob my hair. I wanted a fun asymmetrical bob. When I called the salon, I left a message and was called back by a manager later who had a specific recommendation for Jason. When I arrived a few days later I found the space to be spacious and surprising tucked in the urban jungle of Santa Fe Blvd art district. Jason turned out to be a super skilled haircutter who has worked in New York City and Aveda among other places. Jason was super skilled. Seriously. Period. Best haircut hands-down I've had in Denver Colorado in 25 years. And on top of it everything is organic, the process is serene, everyone is super nice in the store. I had my first appt. with Melissa last Friday, and I'm VERY happy! First, I had to work, so I had my laptop in my lap most of the time. I felt terribly rude, but Melissa was so super cool about it. When we did chat while she was cutting and drying, I found out that she is awesome! I reached out to MHT b/c I wanted to go fully organic with all my hair treatments and beauty products. I was nervous that non-toxic hair color wouldn't look good, but my hair looks FAB. And I got some killer products (even an organic one to replace my toxic Bumble & Bumble Grooming Cream, which I swore I'd never find, but this stuff works GREAT!). I've been considering a change to match the season but I wasn't ready to cut my hair off. So I decided to do some color for the first time in six years. And make my bangs a bit more overt. On a whim (and a bunch of Yelp! Review reading) I decided to give My Hair Trip a shot. I already liked its vibe having stopped here with my son to get a ball cap done by a local artist and check out the art on the walls. I lucked out and got Alyssa. Holy bonkers. She is one of the best colorists whose chairs I've sat in. When I told her what I wanted she affirmed it stating it was what was in her mind as well. Because the product was a new one to me, she spent a lot of time giving me the 411. Which was really amazing. And the bangs were a last minute add but they turned out great. I really liked Nicole. She was positive, walked me through every step of my color and curly hair cut. My color looks great -- exactly what I wanted and without all the harmful chemicals. The curly cut was also really good. She talked to me and asked specifics for what I wanted, made recommendations and listened. This will be my new permanent salon. The appointments do take a while (mine took about 3.5hrs), she never rushed me or skipped steps. It has a great atmosphere and don't forget there are two unlimited parking spaces in the back! Pros: Love their mission, eco-friendly practices & products, and the stylists are super sweet. My hair looked good at the end. The girls were very friendly and easy to chat with. Cons: My bill at the end was far higher than expected. Make sure you understand what you are paying for before you agree to an extra treatment or anything else. Also, I went in December and it needed extra heat or something to make it more cozy. All in all, if you're okay with the price then you'll have a great experience. Once again I was perfumed at My Hair Trip. After asking the stylist to please not use any products with fragrance in them, she forgot and sprayed my head with nasty chemicals. She was kind enough to wash them off, but unfortunately the scents in the products at MHT do not come out easily, as I am finding out the hard way a second time. What happened next? She did it AGAIN with another heavily scented styling product. Luckily I caught it before she smeared it all over my head. Both stylists I have seen at My Hair Trip have told me that their products are 100% organic. I read ingredients labels on a few of the products, and I am telling you as a chemical sensitive person, that they are not free of harmful chemicals. What does organic even mean if your products contain the ingredient "Fragrance (parfum)"? Yes, I read the label. Xenooxymethylthiazoliblahblahblah. How is that organic? Three stars for the good cut. Minus two because instead of the business meeting I had scheduled for this afternoon, I am spending the afternoon trying to calm my irritated nervous system so that I won't get terribly ill. It took two showers, three shampoos with Dr. Bronner's, and an apple cider vinegar rinse to get the smell out. I think three stars is pretty damn generous. You're welcome, Hair Trip. Please be more careful in the future when a client informs you they are chemical sensitive. It may not seem like a big deal to you, but it definitely is for us. *** FYI: "The word "fragrance" or "parfum" on the product label represents an undisclosed mixture of various scent chemicals and ingredients used as fragrance dispersants such as diethyl phthalate. Amazing space! I loved the vibrant colors and the heart that you feel walking in. I got an essential oil treatment on my hair, and my hair felt so soft and smooth and was super shiny. It also smelled amazing, which made me not want to wash it as long as I could wait! I even liked my hair COLOR better after the treatment, and the blowout made me feel like I was in a hair commercial. I kept flipping it around! Go here if you want to leave looking and feeling amazing - great positive vibes! AND they have a lot of really cool products to choose from... I highly recommend it! Melissa did a cut and color. The color was great and she is a really nice person to spend time with. Unfortunately the cut she gave me was not good. When stylists cut thin fine hair and they "cut "into it" the results are terrible. People with thin hair need to keep as much volume as possible. It will take me months to grow this out to look nice again. I highly recommend her color work but sadly I can't return as the cut is so bad. My hair trip salon, is my new favorite salon in Denver. It's cozy, accommodating, and the staff is super friendly. When you check in, they ask you not only to make yourself feel at home, but they also offer you something to drink whether is water, beer, and even wine. Welcoming atmosphere, you can feel that it will be a good experience as soon as you walk in. I have very curly, thick unruly hair. It takes a long time for my hair to grow so I always feel skeptical of haircuts. Stehpanie was super understanding of my fears, and was not only very patient, but also did an amazing job. She did an amazing hot oil treatment, which smelled wonderful, and cut my hair. My hair felt healthier and lighter . Before I left, I made an appointment to get a keratin treatment from her. It took four hours, Stephanie patiently did the treatment and I LOVE IT. It is silky, smooth, not frizzy, and it should make my hair so much more manageable when wet. She's well informed, and so friendly. I love her as much as I love my new hair and I completely trust her with my hair . They use completely organic products free of awful chemicals. I first did a consultation, and Nicole was excited about working with my wavy hair, rather than wanting to straighten it like many stylists. She spent time looking for photo examples for both cut and color and discussed the ones I brought as well. Nicole is amazing at cuts AND color! I discovered her by chance (after several bad cuts/colors...ahem...Aveda), and I was always extremely pleased with the results. I moved from Denver a couple years ago, and I haven't been able to find someone I trust with my hair as much as Nicole. What I really liked is that I could go in and just tell her to do what she wanted, and it was always perfect. I never had to worry about making sure I told her EXACTLY what I wanted, with 5 pictures from different angles and all that. She knows what looks good on you, and she'll tell you if what you're thinking you want might not work for your face. Basically, I love her! Also, the salon she works at is awesome. It's attached to a bar, and you get a free drink with your hair service! At least you did when I was there. It's not one of those stuffy, hoidy-toidy salons with 10 attendants you have to tip. I visited My Hair Trip Salon for the first time last month and I received an AMAZING haircut from Nicole. I have really thick (sometimes wavy) hair that doesn't always cooperate. She was able to expertly add in layers to lighten it up while still keeping the length - exactly what I wanted. Nicole is awesome stylist and a great person. I also really like the product that My Hair Trip uses. It's organic and left my hair feeling soft, shiny and full of volume. Furthermore, the salon embraces it's neighborhood and features local artists on the walls and local designers (both clothing and jewelry). I have dyed my air red for years. This is the first salon that has a red dye that lasts for more than 4 weeks. It does not get brassy or fade like the other salon dyes I have tried in the past. This was one of the worst haircut experiences of my life. The stylist didn't listen, cut off twice the amount of hair I asked her to, and gave me short layers which look awful (I have super fine hair). Not only that, but when I specifically said that short layers make me look like I have very little hair, the stylist corrected me and assured me that "she would do it right" and it would look great. It doesn't - the bottom layers are way too thin. She then teased the top layers for some reason, which took me forever to comb out when I got home. Not once did the stylist ask me if I liked the style; she was far too busy trying to sell me on the salon's other services. The whole experience was so bad that I cried the whole way home from the salon. The one star is for the manager that refunded my money, as he was kind and extremely apologetic. But overall, do not recommend. read more

I can't say enough positive praises about this place. I moved to Denver a year ago and haven't been able to find a salon that's right for me. I try to be as natural as possible when it comes to my body, and I make my own shampoo, so I've been skeptical about going anywhere because I don't want products packed with unnatural chemicals/ingredients. So when I found this place on a google search I was really excited. After doing lots of research I decided to try it and I am sooo happy I did. I went for a major change- cut 7 inches off my hair! I truly love this salon. In addition to providing organic coloring, they have recently introduced an organic keratin treatment! I had my first treatment a couple months ago and was so pleased with it that I'm having it done again at the ~3 month mark. It left my hair incredibly smooth and far less frizzy (which is particularly noticeable when I let it dry on its own). They can accommodate your preference on it impacting the straightness of your hair, which I'm going to increase this time. My hair is pretty sensitive so we took it easy the first time around because it does require using a hot iron throughout the hair. There is also a recommended shampoo/conditioning treatment to use to help maximize the benefits of the treatment and lengthen the time it stays in your hair. The people that work here are also AMAZING. They are so kind, environmentally friendly, and super knowledgable about safe hair products. I'm always impressed by them and their work, and love being at the salon. The space is open, artsy, and calming. :) I recommend them 100%. read more

Go see Brittany! She is top notch!! She does a wonderful job listening to what you are looking for and isn't afraid to make suggestions if you want to be more edgy or conservative. During my last appointment, I asked Brittany to help me figure out a top knot bun. She gave it a first shot, but wasn't afraid to ask another stylist to come over for some suggestions. The business is fabulous too. They text you with appointment reminders one day before the appointment and will email you any general salon updates once every few weeks. read more

Holy mother of hair, I love this place!!! Just move to Denver and was in desperate need of a styling. Wanted a drastic change to bright red/ copper blonde ombré, and Erica did an amazing job. It's SUPER vibrant and she really perfected the fade from red to blonde, looks really cool. The organic products used on my hair makes it feel so healthy and renewed. I never buy salon hair products, but I was 100% sold on the Phia shampoo/conditioner. She seemed okay at first, but as the appointment progressed she seemed to care less about making me happy and giving me what I asked for and more about up charging me on services I didn't need. I came accross this shop on a first friday art walk and they had all sorts of fun things. I decided to come back for a haircut, and everything about this place is awesome. I love the artistic local feel of the shop, and the people are all so nice! I am a huge skeptic when it comes to hair stylists and I have had quite a few dissapointing haircuts. It had literally been about 10 years since my last professional hair cut, given my sensitivities to chemicals and strong smells. While I did a pretty good job cutting it myself, I finally got tired of making a mess in my bathroom, in addition to having chunks of hair missing from the back of my head, so I started searching for an "eco friendly" salon I might be able to comfortably visit. This place turned out to be great, and I definitely intend to be a repeat customer. I was lucky to get in with one of the owners, Nicole, and she was fantastic. I tend to be very picky and detail-oriented, and she was completely patient with me and my requests, even encouraging me to speak up and tell her exactly what I wanted. The hair cut is growing out nicely, and even though I'll probably need another one soon, I don't look like a shaggy mess! I also really liked the partitioned layout of the salon, which makes it feel like more of a private experience. I know getting a hair cut isn't exactly like getting a bikini wax or something, but I definitely felt more comfortable here than I used to in typical salons where all the chairs are "out in the open."
