I love this place, when I first moved to GB from California I thought I'd never find Mexican food as good as I had there, luckily I was proven wrong. Has to be the best Horchata I've ever had as well as awesome enchiladas suizas. Service is good, prices are what you'd expect - 9 bucks for a good size portion plate. My only complaint is that while they will wrap something up as "take out" for you, its not something they're really prepped for. They put the full meal in a to go container and given their portion sizes it spills out easily, I just wish they had a little better containers for that. read more

It is nice that they have Negra Modelo on tap, as well as cheap drink and food specials daily and for happy hour. The corn tortillas are decent, as are the fresh cilantro/onion toppings and the salsas (red is hotish, tomatillo is mild). However, they really need to up the rest of their game. Guacamole is either pre-made or made with pre-pureed avocado or, even worse, contains sour cream. On a recent visit, meat ranged from good (rib-eye, lenga) to meh (steak) to oddly flavorless (barbacoa). The massiveness of the burritos and the piles of cheese on the enchiladas don't make up for mediocre fillings. Service is friendly, but often distracted. Try some other mexican places in GB and give El Sarape incentive to improve. read more

The great reviews brought me in here and my friend who lives in the area, heard by word of mouth that this place was good. We gave it a try and was not disappointed. The salsa was fresh and had just enough of a kick to it and chips tasted fresh and not super salty like some restaurants give you. While the burritos looked good, I chose the Three Taco Dinner with Chorizo and corn tortillas ( a smaller portion than a burrito). I was very happy with my decision. Good, authentic Mexican food. I live near L.A. and still can't find a place that I like as much as El Sarape. The burritos are the best! I would get the steak burrito, cilantro, cheese on top, verde sauce and guacamole! Go to the one on the east side, went to the one on the west side and didn't like it at all. Has really good chikn tamale, the tripas taco is to hard and too oily. Tongue taco was good. The food is good if you add salso to it. if you just eat as is just with lime, it kind of tasteless. I will still comeback to try other stuff. overal it is pretty good. read more

I had lunch here about 3 weeks ago and the tacos i had were delicious as was the salsa & chips. But stopped in tonight for dinner around 8 and was very unimpressed with the guacamole (huge portion) as it was exactly like that paste-like guac you buy at the grocery store and tasteless. The seafood burrito was ok but not one shrimp in the burrito even though the menu has a nice photo of this entreè with shrimp in it. And no rice & beans with a dinner entreè??? Not very smart.... The place has a very nice decor, for sure. but themfood is what people go there for, not how nice and bright it is. The margarita i had was marginal.... and not a great glass to handle as the margarita kept spilling from the sides when the server first brought it to the table. When you like to order a margarita on the rocks with salt, you don't use a straw to drink it. I have always enjoyed their food. There tacos are great, and their burritos are huge. Prices are reasonable, and actually they have a really good Pina Colada. This is the best Mexican food in Green Bay. My family goes there at least once a month and we all get the same thing every time because it's so good. I get the Robert's Special, which is 3 ribeye tacos on delicious corn tortillas with salsa de arbol, sauteed jalapenos and onions, fresh avocado, and fresh lime to squeeze over the top. It is the perfect amount of heat (enough to make my nose run). My husband gets the Mario's Special, which is two burritos with lettuce, tomato, cilantro and onions smothered in the most amazing white cheese sauce. My 6 year old son gets a massive regular burrito with ground beef, lettuce and tomato. He eats half at the restaurant and brings the other half home for lunch the next day. My two younger daughters split the chicken nuggets and french fries, which, surprisingly, are the best chicken nuggets I've ever tasted. They start off with a basket of warm tortilla chips and fresh salsa, which is a great blend of tomatoes, cilantro, onions, garlic, peppers. Awesome salsa that my 6 year old tries to eat plain if we'll let him. I also want to comment on the service. We've had many different waitstaff and they are all very attentive and kind. The food comes out very prompt, which makes the kiddos very happy. This is our go to family friendly restaurant in Green Bay. read more

First timers here and last time. Order was entered wrong for a shredded beef filled chimichanga, ground beef was used and was not good. Also ordered avocado which was forgotten. Had to speak with two different people and was offered to replace but my husband didn't want to wait or waste so he kept it. Mngr gave 25 cent off avocado and 5 percent off meal. AWFUL service. i've given this location 3 visits and each time got worse and worse. the server we had tonight was rude, didn't come check on us while we were out of water the whole time we had our meals, and took over 10 minutes to bring the check after we asked for it. he didn't apologize for the wait or even say "thank you" when we left. even though service was awful, we still told him "thank you" when leaving, and he responded "yup". Went to the new west side location recently. The chips and salsa were very good. The main dishes were good..though mine was a tad dry. The biggest downsize was how LOUD it was. The food is wonderful, I have never had anything on the menu I don't like. Everything is amazing! Their burritos are huge with fresh ingredients they have a slice of cheese on the top. Which doesn't over power the taste of burrito. I would suggest carnde asada the spices used in the meat are very flavorful. Another favorite of mine is Chema's special, it's topped with their green sauce which is fantastic. If you want it to be more spicy you can always add red sauce or just mix both sauces! As for the waitstaff, they're friendly and on the ball! One of the waitresses made a drink (which is amazing!) Now when ever I come in and she's there. She knows exactly what drink I want. My fiancée ordered a meal one time with out beans. When he got it, there was beans in it. The waiter was very apologetic, we got our order corrected very fast. This is the best Mexican I've had in Wisconsin. El Sarape doesn't have the initial curb appeal of some places, being in a strip mall on a busy, chain ridden corridor in Green Bay's east side. It doesn't have the ambiance, the restaurant being a single long tract of lacquered tables and high diner-style booths. However, where it excels is in the food, service and price. This place offers your standard American favorites like burritos and fajitas, but also more traditional offerings like lengua, chile relleno, and tripas. The flavors are pure, the meat of noticeable quality, and the preparation immaculate. Where I fell in love with El Sarape was when I was reading their menu and discovered all of their tacos, enchiladas and and other tortilla-based menu items came with corn instead of flour. That's Mexican. If you've never had a corn tortilla with chicken and a lime on the side, then you've never really had a taco. El Serape delivers on the quality, and before you're done, you'll forget you're in a strip mall in Green Bay! You'll also be treated to attentive service and a bill that (if you don't buy drinks) will probably floor you with how reasonable your meal was. It was ok but nothing special food wise, service wasnt the greatest and the surprise we received on our bill appearently if you are a group of 5 or more they automatically add 15 percent tip, i guess thats why the service was a little ify they didnt have to work for that tip. This is my favorite mexican restaurant in Green Bay! There food is authentic and always very, very tasty. I have been here over a dozen times and have never once been disappointed in the food or staff. The place is clean, well kept, and their is never a long wait for service. You will never leave feeling hungry. Also, their margaritas are fantastic! The best margs on the rocks I have ever had. Also, their chips and salsa are great! Chips are always warm and crispy fresh and salsa is flavorful. The only complainant I have is that their rice and beans are not very good (pretty bland and beans are soupy) and that should be a staple at any mexican joint. So I would suggest just skipping those. This makes me so sad to write this- because every other experience I've had here has been amazing. Hence the 3 stars and not one. The food is delicious. Arguably the best Mexican in Green Bay. I went in today by myself, just wanted a quick lunch before work. It was about 230pm, there was nobody in there. I was sat and a waiter didn't come to me for almost 10 minutes. I knew what I wanted so I ordered my food and drink right away. 10 minutes later, still hadn't gotten my drink. My server comes to tell me they made the wrong food- understandable, mistakes happen. I asked for my drink and it was brought. My food was brought to me and I asked if I could get a flan right away and the bill. I finished eating and had not gotten either so I sat and waited. And waited. I finally got up and went to the front to pay my bill. The waiter acknowledged that he forgot about me but did nothing to reconcile it. I didn't even get a chance to get a box for my food. He entire visit took over an hour. So disappointing. read more
