This was our first time here. The place was not busy and we were excited that we were immediately seated. It was over 15 minutes and nobody came to our table to take our order. I finally had to get up and go to the hostess station. Finally our server came. He apologized up and down and said from the bottom of his heart he was sorry...apparently nobody informed him of our table. I get it... Things happen. Our food was brought promptly and it was very good. Unfortunately, we were done eating and we sat there for over 20 minutes just looking at each other at amazement. No one came to bring us our bill or package up our leftover food. We just sat there... Finally, our waiter came, and even though I told him we would like separate checks in the beginning..., he still had to take the time and split them up for us. He finally came and told us we didn't need to tip because his attention span was off tonight. I wish you had a better first time experience... Maybe if the service improves we will be back. Came here with my nephew to grab an early dinner after not having visited in a long while and it was just alright! My family and I used to come here all the time when I was younger and it was the same inside as I had remembered too, very bright and colorful. Enjoyed the service, she was very attentive. Food was just okay! I purposely hadn't ordered tacos since I needed something to really fill me up. I got more than enough food! Chicken was a bit dry, overall the dish was nothing impressive. Our waiter was Ian, after his initial greeting and bringing us drinks it took a most 15 minutes for him to return to take out order. He asked my brother twice what type of meat he wanted because he didn't get it correctly the first time he was told. I ordered three shrimp tacos and a side of guacamole. He came out with two tacos and no guacamole. After I mentioned the mistake he then mentioned that I had to order two because that's the way they come and it was in a to-go box. I still didn't get the guacamole, we asked for more chips and salsa, which he only brought chips (no salsa) and made a bunch of excuses. Just apologize for the inconvenience and correct the issue. He never came to check on us or to bus the dirty dishes. Very disappointed being a customer there for over 13 years. This guy Ian needs serious training or needs to go. Terrible service. read more

Got chicken tacos with a margarita. The bean dip and a milkshake. The bean dip (appetizer) was very good with a lot of flavor. The margarita was good but a bit pricey compared to other places. This was my first visit, and will be my last. Worst taco salad I have ever had. I got pork; it was tough and was swimming at the bottom of the salad shell in some kind of greasy bitter-tasting, overpowering sauce. Next to no lettuce, and no tomatoes. Thankfully the salsa they provide with the free chips is excellent so I doused the salad with it. Service was also excellent. But those two good things are not enough to get me to give this restaurant another try. read more

The place has a pop Mexican feel combined with a Wisconsin sports theme--Packers and Brewers (see pics) They brought out complimentary chips and salsa (3.5/5). The chips were warm and good, not great. I liked the salsa. It tasted fresh and had a mild kick. Not memorable. My friend ordered the steak fajitas. They brought out chicken, and gave us a free margarita to make things right. The service (4/5) was good. I ordered 3 tacos--1 chicken, 1 pork, and 1 ground beef, all with onions and cilantro. The chicken was stringy and bland (3/5), the pork had a funky flavor (2/5), and the ground beef (4/5) was very good--nice meat flavor and plenty big. My wife ordered a drink special with dragon fruit and it was really good : ) Recommended. read more

I usually order for pick up. The steak in the taco's and kids burrito always seems to be the left over pieces that have been sitting on the flat top to long. Always tough to eat and burnt tasting. The other meat is good just not the steak, please fix. read more

This place has gone downhill fast. Used to be my favorite restaurant now it's slow and not tasty. Placed an online order for chips and salsa (which are already made) and queso. (Which they scoop into a container). Waited 15 minutes after the pick up time for it. Took almost an hour from when I placed an order to recieve it. Must be disorganized right now. Delicious food and drinks and service was just okay due to the fact that an employee on her break sat in a booth in the dining room with customers around her and had her cell phone on with speaker extremely loud then didn't understand that she was being disruptive so when we asked to turn the volume down, the employees felt like it was an unreasonable request. read more

My son took me here for my birthday when I visited. The food is great, and they gave me a dessert and a temporary accessory in the form of a sombrero. I love the lively atmosphere with vibrant decor that even features some local flair. I hope to return in the future. read more

We ate here tonight and had terrible service. I have had this same issue in the past and that's why I haven't been here in ages. I'm talking just under 2 hours for dinner on a fairly slow night. We saw other large tables come in after us and be served quickly while we sat waiting. Food not great, salsa is pretty good though. No salt and pepper or hot sauce on the table to try to season the lackluster food. Drinks were forgotten, chips and salsa sat empty while we waited about an hour for food. The tables are so close together that I felt like I was sitting on the lap of the group next to me. I felt the prices were pretty expensive too for what we got. I feel like I have given this place a fair chance and it continues to disappoint, so I won't we back. read more

. I did really enjoy my Mexican beers and the chips and salsa were great. The salsa has a tiny hint of kick which I loved. I ordered the taco dinner with pork and corn tortillas. The pork meat wasn't at all what I was expecting. It had some sort of red sauce on it which was was ok but did make the flavor a bit different. I sat at the bar and if you like Margaritas, they did have a special on Wednesday for $4.75 Margaritas in various flavors form 3-7pm. Who doesn't love a good happy hour?! I didn't partake this time This hasn't been my favorite Mexican restaurant in the area, although I'd come back for the drinks and maybe try some appetizers. Or maybe fajitas. They smelled delicious! Beautiful 90 degree day outside and they refused to let me sit on the patio. Zero people in the restaurant, the server was just being lazy as she told me "i think the patio is closed". Definite sports bar feel but relatively quiet on a Sunday afternoon on the winter. Packers were prominently displayed but other sports teams were represented as well. (They advertised Packer game day specials and weekday happy hour specials). Food was good - what you would expect of typical Mexican fare in the US. Husband had the flautas dinner which was good and very filling. I had the nachos - with beans, avocados, and jalapeños- but with nothing else. (One of three choices of nachos). They were tasty and I appreciated slices of real avocado versus guacamole dip. Definitely not loaded nachos and not necessarily shareable- I easily ate the entire order. Service was friendly and attentive. One note - we had not checked Yelp before eating here and I was a little concerned over the 21 health code violations indicated. The restaurant and restrooms appeared clean, so I am hopeful these violations (don't know when the inspection was done) have been addressed. read more

Nice atmosphere with spot on service. The enchilada rojas was with ground beef (I should of had the shredded beef) and not very tasty - needs seasoning. The red sauce wasn't much better. I only have one visit under my belt but my wife has been here multiple times. Her feel for El Sarape is that it's worthy of 4 stars but I just wasn't feeling it. Nice location and typical decorations for a Mexican restaurant. I liked the Green Bay Packers theme incorporated into the decor. I also liked that there were multiple tv's tuned into different sporting events. I thought it was a little loud and the music could be turned down a notch. Our server was friendly but moved quite slowly. Definitely nothing remarkable about the quality of service. I had the steak tacos. Meat was pretty flavorful and tender. The complimentary chips/salsa was good but it was a pretty small basket. The menu indicates they charge $1.50 if you get the chip basket refilled. We didn't get a refill, so not sure if they actually do charge for this. All in all a pretty standard faire Mexican restaurant. Most certainly better than Qdoba & Taco Bell read more

I'm an avid lover of good authentic Mexican food and El Sarape does NOT disappoint! This is true Mexican food! We came in pretty late last night maybe around 8, and were seated right away of course. Our waitress was disoriented because there was a lot of closing duties being performed while the restaurant was still open, that being said it took awhile for our chips and salsa, drink orders to be taken. My margarita was delicious! I had steak tacos and a side of rice and beans, and I think I went to food heaven for a brief moment. The last time I went to El sarapes with several years ago I moved out of town I went today I ordered two combination plates I was seriously underwhelmed I got a flour tortilla with meat in it that was supposed to be the burrito and the portions were so so small but their prices have gone up it was $30 for those two plates and they were so small I can't tell you how unhappy I am and when I talk to the manager he goes well it's up to you if you want to go someplace else or not come here that's that's your decision and yeah I won't come back read more

I had a Happy Hour margarita- Thats was good. Other than that I was disappointed with the food. The service was ok, nothing wrong there. Their complimentary salsa is boring.
