We will never return to this establishment. Desirea and Thomas who said he was the manager were rude and could NOT even take the time to listen that Desirea not only made errors starting from the drink order to the appetizers to the 3 entrees ordered. She ignored us 4 times, Thomas brought out the food, didn't even ask of the orders were correct, when we asked why the error in the order. He walked away, couldn't even bother to listen. We didn't even try one of entrees since it was wrong. He didn't even offer to make a new entree. He said he could basically care less, then when he did return he said well we have cameras. And all of us had a smart phone on us. That even elevated the situation between all 4 of us. When we asked for the owner's number to call, he said well the owner isn't going to do anything about me. It my word as the manager against us 4. The location downtown was much better managed, the food was better and the service. the restaurant wasn't that clean either compared, the previous experience we had dined was that much better. Am so disappointed in this place used to be our go to treat our self dinner every week until the past three times. First instance they forgot a whole burrito meal from our take out order. Second time I was feeding my toddler my chimichanga and there was a metal piece in the food. We went back and they refunded the chimichanga not the entire order which is okay I guess but they didn't seem to care. This time i was hesitant but figured surely it'd be crazy for something to happen a third time they forgot our guacamole order 10$ btw, and they gave us the completely wrong burrito. Had to run all the way back so a quick take out order turned into an hour long journey. And they didn't take care of anything for their mistakes either. Warning to Vegetarians,vegans, & all dietary restrictions !!! I hate to write a negative review for this restaurant. My husband & i have eaten here many times with friends & loved it. However, this is the second time I have had chicken or beef in my fajitas (specified vegetarian). We picked up an order tonight after traveling back into town. I ordered fajitas. Unfortunately, there was steak in my food & all of the toppings for fajitas were not included in the order (rice, beans, lettuce, tomato, etc.) despite paying extra for these. I also want to warn that the refried beans are not vegetarian (which is pretty normal). They do have vegetarian beans, you just need to specifically recommend them. For anyone veg or vegan, you know this can really ruin an evening- specifically on a takeout order when there isn't much you can do once you get home. El Sol has great food, margs, and a lovely vibe. For meat eaters, I 100% recommend. All others with restrictions, please be overly specific to a waiter or on a togo order. We will definitely return, but I will be much more cautious. I chose to review El Sol's restaurant in Camp Hill, Pa due to being sorely disappointed when I ordered an Enchilada dinner, and they brought out to me what I could only describe as a "mini" dinner! Elevated mexican FTW! Don't let the prices thwart you from coming here- large portions and everything was delicious! Sat at the bar, which is wide, so there's plenty of space for your food and apps. If you are deciding between Plaza Azteca and here, choose here everytime! Salsa is not spicy, just a hint of heat, which how I prefer it! Chips are fresh and a little thick. Besides needing a little salt, best chips I've had! Though not complimentary, I highly recommend the three cheese fundido, and you get the chips and salsa with it. We really should have split an entree with the app, but the fajita quesadilla was full of steak and chicken. The green peppers were not soggy, so it gave a little crunch, and that flavor shined through. Taco salad is a little expensive once you add a meat, but if you don't cover it in dressing or salsa, plenty to take home to make a second salad. This is an ok place to go. It was easy enough to go with a bigger group and not have to wait forever and food comes out pretty quick. I tried the hibiscus cocktail. I liked that it wasn't overly sweet. It was refreshing. We started off with the guacamole and it was really good. Very chunky, but good. I got the flautas plate for my entree. It was underwhelming. My first time eating here. I've been to other Mexican restaurants in the area (i.e. El Rodeo, Plaza Azteca, Moe's Southwest), and they all seem to be much better than El Sol. El Sol seems to focus on a "fusion" food mindset which is annoying. I like my Mexican food to be simple (buy food to EAT - NOT to LOOK AT as in "art"). The enchiladas REALLY sucked, and judging from the fact that my siblings could only eat ONE taco each (out of the three [each] that they ordered, it appears the tacos were not very tasty, as well. Fountain drinks are $3.50 each, which would imply that they come with refills; however, the wait staff NEVER returned until it was time to receive the check. Nah, I do not think that I'll be returning to El Sol a second time. It was simply terrible taste and terrible presentation and terrible service. El Sol has lots of dishes with reasonable prices. They don't offer chip and salsa as complimentary like other restaurants do but if you order queso or ceviche, then the chips and salsa comes with it. Their salsa though doesn't taste as flavorful as others. It's quite mild but i understand that a lot of people would have love it that way. I also had their ceviche, burritos, and an appetizer called pork belly. Their ceviche tasted fresh but the meat in the burrito was quite dry. Pork belly was an interesting choice, something that i havent tried before. It's worth a try but i won't order it again. The staff was friendly and the food came out pretty quick. I was told that they don't accept Apple Pay (even though it says they do on Google) and can't manually input credit card information (even though every spot in the world can). Went for an early dinner with a friend on the Monday before Christmas Eve. It wasn't too crowded, likely because of the time of day (4:00ish). We sat at the bar and were offered chips and salsa. Their chips are delicious! I had the white Sangria, which was also really good. I ordered chicken and shrimp fajitas for dinner and found out I had to pay an extra $3 for cheese?!? And I had to pay extra for the "sides" which was chopped head lettuce, guacamole and sour cream. I understand that people are trying to figure out ways to charge more for things but, really? The parking lot seems big but not at all had to park on the side street. We started with a margarita which was delicious!!! Got the shrimp ceviche, which came with chips and salsa. The ceviche was amazing. It was a big portion for $14. Plus, you also got chips and salsa. My friend got the taco salad and added steak, which was $16 with the house vinegarette she said it was very good and a big portion for the price. I am impressed with the knowledge of the wait staff and their service. Don't make my mistake and get stuck on one dish every time. Try some new entrees and be pleasantly surprised. The kitchen seems to be very flexible with dietary needs. We have a cilantro hater in our family so that can be a challenge but the staff was very careful to advise us what could be modified and which could not. Recently, I tried to order on Grubhub. But I found out that it's just better to pick up. We ordered Guacamole Appetizer, Flautas platter, Fajitas De Mariscos, and a Cheese Quesadilla Kids Meal. We spent in the low 60s. All of our food was hot, flavorful, fast, efficient, and satisfying. The kids meal did say it came with a fruit salad and there was lettuce with cheese instead. The food is like a Mexican fusion. It's extremely well executed and a bit non-traditional. Service is great! People are friendly and helpful! It can get a little loud in the bar but... it's a bar! I should try outside the bar sometime. Get anything with brisket or pork belly if you can't decide. TBH I am softie when it comes to Mexico food. Omg! I wanted to visit this spot for a while, and I finally got a chance. If you want authentic food with great flavors and spices, then go visit Catina. I've been to El Sol in downtown Harrisburg, El Sol express in Harrisburg as well and Catina sealed the deal. The restaurant was short staffed which is the new norm nowadays but overall, the service was good. The food made the experience amazing, and I would go back for sure. The El Sol express is closer to my home so that location get my business over all of the other locations, but this owner deserves a round of applause. All locations are superb! There is a part of me that doesn't want to put this 5 star review forward... I'd like to horde this food for myself like I have for the past two nights and try to keep it all for me. But, I can't. El Sol has always been the best of Mexican food around Harrisburg. And now, I have one within a bike-ride of my house. My life is better with El Sol in it. The food is authentic, amazing, and dive-quality, but done in a professionally delivered way. They offer an upscale atmosphere with food that makes you feel like your friend's Mexican grandmother just cooked, all with excellent wait and bar staff. The Margaritas are amazing and homemade. They are also 7-9 bucks for normal to top-shelf, very affordable. Do yourself a favor here and get an entree that you haven't had before. Tonight I had their stuffed peppers meal (one chicken one pork) and it was absolutely perfect. So much love and passion goes into the food here. The Carnitas, tacos, and salads have also been amazing! Lastly - with small-medium sized restaurants who make fresh, healthy food closing all over the country, we all need to appreciate and patronize places like this that passionately deliver an amazing experience. I was a fan of el Sol in HBG. So HAPPY that we have something to replace the sub par food served at El Rodeo. Service was timely, decor was so cool and the food is exactly what I remember pre pandemic at the original el sol. I highly recommend the margarita fresca with a rim of spicy tajin. Its not made with cheap acidic margarita mix, but with "fresca" ( fresh) fruit juice. I loved the carne asada. Tasty rib eye, nopales (cactus) and spring onions served with side of pico, guac and beans. If you like artichokes, nopales is a real treat. Im curious to see what will happen to el rodeo... This restaurant doesn't take reservations so the wait was a little long. We had margaritas standing around the bar. We dined in the patio. Chips and salsa were served quickly, as were drinks. Dinner was just ok (I had the fish tacos). They weren't hot and not very flavorful. Our server was good (I am taking into account that all restaurants are short staffed.) The kicker is that a couple beside us started to smoke on the patio which I consider an enclosed space. It had walls and is not open on the sides so the smell of smoke quickly filled the space. I asked the server if smoking was allowed and he said yes. He told me that the bar had an ashtray on it for smokers. I didn't like it and wouldn't sit there again. Thus, two stars. read more

We had a great experience here for a late lunch on Friday. Our server, Thomas, was extremely helpful. Best server we'd encountered in a long time - and we eat out twice a week. We told him this was our first visit and asked him for recommendations. He gave us suggestions and explained menu items we asked about. We started with chips and salsa - freshly made and delicious. Amazing salsa! I ordered enchiladas. They come 3 to the order and I asked if I could order 3 different meats. Thomas said "of course." I asked for steak, pork, and chicken. All were delicious and were served with refried beans and rice and a small salad. The enchiladas were great and the refried beans were the best I ever had. My husband ordered from the lunch special menu - chilaquiles - something we'd never had before - but the menu description was interesting. This dish did not disappoint! The portions were very generous and we actually got a second meal from our leftovers. The dessert menu was very appealing but we'd probably never have room enough for dessert. Great service, great food, great atmosphere! when you go, ask to be seated at a table served by Thomas! You'll get the best attentive treatment and friendly service! read more
