We stopped by Mid St8 Taco inside the West Shore Farmers Market on the Sunday morning before Christmas, and wow -- the market was PACKED. Despite the chaos, Mid St8 was cranking out tacos in a really timely and efficient way, which we appreciated right away. We were also super lucky to snag a table nearby, because Mid St8 only has a handful of seats, and they fill up fast. We ordered two breakfast tacos -- egg, potato, and chorizo -- for $11.66, and they were absolutely worth it. First pleasant surprise: real eggs (you can taste the difference). We wouldn't have minded a little more chorizo, but overall the balance still worked. We also loved the double tortilla, and these tacos were STUFFED -- no skimping here. There were lots of onions and lots of lime crema already on the tacos, which we greatly appreciated. The crema was a clutch move and kept the double-tortilla noms from getting too dry. Good call, Mid St8 Taco. Flavor-wise, they really delivered. Super tasty, filling, and exactly what we wanted on a busy, chilly December morning. One of our favorite parts of the experience was the self-service condiment bar. Instead of being put on the spot to choose toppings, you get to customize your tacos with crema, pico de gallo, fire-roasted jalapeños, pickled onions, limes, pickled jalapeños, salsa picosa, and salsa verde. It was great being able to sample a few without committing to a giant scoop of anything we might not love. (Spoiler alert: the lime crema and pickled onions were our winners.) Having gone here in the past and never reviewing, I'm so glad I tried again. I was previously unimpressed with their tacos, but after trying their empanadas and chilaquiles I have a newfound love for them. While the prices are a bit higher than your run of the mill, divey Mexican joint, you can tell they put a lot of quality ingredients and time into each dish. I was pleasantly surprised by the presentation and flavor in each of the dishes i had. Update: I got chilaquiles to go and was not entirely impressed with the quality. 1) it was way too watery which turned me off. 2) they need to offer some type of half portion for $6. I would be much more likely to buy often. It's way too much food for one person and this comes from someone who can eat A LOT. I ended up throwing a bunch away because there's no way I could reheat soggy chips and eggs. Tacos, nacho, empanadas, sopas, salsa- everything from their sauces to tacos are made from scratch- quality is just so fresh, ingredients used are good. Their fish tacos are the best - margination of the fish is perfect, very soft. Their chicken tacos were also fresh and good. also tried their nachos and salsa, beans and rice - everything was mild and is good blend of flavor and spice. I have recently discovered the joy that is Grubhub, and I have been exploring the local restaurants that deliver to downtown Harrisburg. My most recent order was from Midstate taco. I got a beef quesadilla. The tortilla was clearly housemaid, it was fresh tasting and thicker than I am used to a tortilla being, but it was disintegrating before I got it out of the box. My delivery came with multiple condiments, and of those, the best one was the lime creme fraiche. I was skeptical when I read that in the description, but it totally brought out the flavors of the beef and the beans in the quesadilla. While the quesadilla did fall apart, the cheese was creamy, the shredded cabbage gave it some much-needed texture, and the condiments and care of Packaging are enough that I will be trying this again for delivery in the future. The location inside the farmer's market is challenging or nice, depending on your outlook. I'm told that Friday and Saturday when the farmer's market is open, it is impossible to get a seating spot. The only option is to do take out. I'm not sure if I want to do take out of tacos. The sauces will make them soggy. Hence, I and my colleagues decided to try them on a Tuesday, when the market is closed. We did find the seating :). If I have to make a restaurant my favorite, it needs to be open all days and should have plenty of seating or reservations for table. The food is freshly made after you place your order. The tacos tasted good. Fish taco was better than the chicken tacos. Chicken one was bland. I wish there was more fish and more chicken in each taco. Plenty of vegetables. I also would have preferred them little more spicy. They've kept sauces on the side. But spicy marination on the meat tastes different than adding sauce to the taco! I was surprised to find horchata on the menu. I've had better one in Brooklyn, NY, but this wasn't bad. It's near to home, so I will visit again. read more

Finally got around to trying out the often recommended Mid St8 Taco at the West Shore Farmers Market. I was underwhelmed by the two types of tacos we ordered (sweet potato puree and steak). They were both bland and required many add-on ingredients that are stored out on the counter. Ingredients tasted fresh, so I would give some additional tacos another chance if I return the the farmers market. However, based upon this visit I would say there are better tacos in the Harrisburg area. read more

This place is growing on me. When I first came here a year or so ago I got quesadillas I think and I wasn't a fan of all of the cabbage. I felt it took away from the flavors that I was supposed to be tasting and I kind of shrugged them off. But every time I come to the farmers' market I am drawn to this place by the sounds, smells, and colors. So I've tried it a handful of times since and now I really love it here. The people are SUPER friendly and they really take pride in what they do. The tortillas are yummy and their sauces are out of this world! My favorite is the flautas. They can fill them with any meat you like and they're topped with verde sauce and their lime crema. I also suggest you get chips and salsa. Because the chips are fresh and the salsa is AWESOME!!!!!!! Overview: Small stall in the West Shore Farmer's Market offering a small menu of Mexican dishes. Overall, I would save my money and get a bowl of soup from the Korean stall across the way. Food: After all the hype I read from their reviews, I was honestly a bit let down. I got three tacos, the chorizo, steak, and chicken. Chorizo is one of my favorite foods to order when in a Mexican restaurant but these were my least favorite. Listed at "chorizo and potato" on the menu, I didn't expected it to be a lukewarm mushy paste. But that's what it was. It wasn't even very flavorful or spicy. The steak was alright. Probably my favorite was the chicken, which came decently portioned, albeit with a bit too much sour cream for my taste. My favorite thing that ordered was the tamale. It was very different from any tamale I've ever had, but had a good flavor and was fairly spicy as well. With my food, I ordered the iced tea, which is advertised as "Iced black tea with orange and agave." This was probably the absolute worst iced tea I have ever had. Extremely bitter to the point it was nearly undrinkable. I could not taste the orange or agave at all. My boyfriend ordered the quesadilla and again, wasn't too impressed. I also thought the portions to be pretty small for the price you pay. Recommend: The tamales Atmosphere: This place is always busy, so expect a line. Since it's in the farmer's market, it can be difficult to find a place to sit and enjoy your food. Service: The woman (and I believe owner) seemed quite stressed when we went to order and was not particularly friendly. The place was busy, but it still seemed like it took an inordinately long time for our food to come out. I was in the mood for some Mexican food today, and I remembered that the West Shore market is open since it Saturday. Ordered from Midst8 taco and had it delivered to our house by DoorDash at 11:15. Was delivered within 45 minutes. I got the three taco plate with pork, chicken, and fish, and split it with the family. All delicious, the meats were properly seasoned and not too spicy. Fresh snappy vegetables... radish, cabbage, and what I think it's Cojota cheese or queso fresco. Came with a great selection of toppings such as salsa Verde, a hot salsa, Pico de gallo, pickled onions, pickled jalapeños, and some sort of pickled or roasted green pepper. We also ordered the empanadas with chicken. Tasty and crispy. Not super flavorful or spiced, my four year old loved it. For the adults, we just added more of the toppings that were included. Ordered the vegetarian rice and beans, pretty basic but delicious and came with diced white onions and fresh cilantro. Lastly, we ordered the churros with Oaxacan chocolate sauce. I didn't personally care for the chocolate sauce, as I'm not a fan of savory chocolate. The churros were not what you would expect, if you've only ever had them from a theme park, i.e. no cinnamon and sugar on them. It will take my American palate a few tries to get used to that kind of churro. Will be ordering from here again! read more

Recently visited this place in the West Shore Farmer's market. The guy who greeted us and took our order was very friendly and patient with us as we ordered for my wife, me, and our three year old. The menu has a good variety on it. Not so much that there is no way they could do something very well, but enough that most people will find something that interests them. Their space is creatively designed and has a neat look and feel to it. The food, on the other hand, was very underwhelming. We had a quesadilla, rice, carne asada taco, chorizo taco, and a chorizo empanada. The rice was very bland and tasted as if it came out of a box. The carne asada was pretty bland and somewhat dry. The quesadilla was actually just more of a taco and left something to be desired. The chorizo was pretty lackluster as well. It reminded me of a burrito filling at Taco Bell. Two things going for it: 1. The tortillas were really good. It's just what's in them isn't great. 2. The empanada was very good. Interestingly, it was the same insides as the taco, but I guess frying it made it much better. Lastly, considering the average quality of the food, I felt the prices were pretty high. I might come back for that empanada, but, I know I can find better tacos and quesadillas somewhere else. read more

Some of the best tacos and fajitas I ever had. My favorite is the carne asada. Maybe a bit pricey but that could be because of the high West Shore rent. I like their Mexican decor and neon signs. Mid St8 Taco is a small taco stand located in the West Shore Farmer's Market (hence the odd hours of operation). I had heard from other stalls that a taco stand was coming in, and looked for a long time for their opening! I ate at the stand the first day they served, and there was some good, and some not so good at that point. But I'm an optimist, and a taco freak, and so I kept trying things, and really, they just keep getting better! My most recent meal there last week involved the fish taco (nice tang, nice heat, good fresh fish on house made fresh tortillas), the chicken mole (good depth of flavor, tender chicken and again the house made tortillas) and an unusual taco filled with cranberry bean and jalapeño which was really yummy as well. Their service seems to have settled a bit - early on when they were swamped things got a bit wild, but either they are more experienced now or just better staffed. Either way, food is faster getting out now, and has always been served immediately after preparation. Prices are certainly higher than many, but I would say that the ingredients are higher end than many also. I'd say this is definitely a place to try! read more

This place has tons of potential.... However $8 for three tiny tacos was robbery. I ordered mine to go, so they were packed up in a box for me. Little did I know I wasn't getting any condiments with my 4 inch diameter tacos. No onion, no lime. I did get two arugula leaves, which I truly hope someone didn't put on my tacos in hopes I would mistake it for cilantro. My charizo could have used some heat too ;( On another note, they did have someone making the tiny tortillas fresh which was really cool. I can see how locals come back for it, but for a latin American like me, I really felt that they got careless somewhere down the line. My food wasn't as good as it could have been. I came in 120 mins before close. I ordered the taco trio, but was told there was no more steak. I ordered chicken, pork belly, and carne asada. I also ate a chicken Tamal. Tortillas: The corn tortilla was fresh, good flavor, however their storage method dried it out by the time it was served to me and it was cold. The flour tortilla was stale, hard, cold and greasy. The carne: Dry, pre-prepped meat that was kept on heat for too long. If it had been fresher, the flavor would have been good. The chicken: It was OK. The pork belly: Good flavor, but authetic pork belly should be crispy, not wet and drippy. Threw me off, and dripiness took away from the meat flavor. Tamal: Good meat filling, Masa was spicier than expected, but over all it was good. Condiments: They had these rediculously small thumb nail sized containers for condiments, there were dozens of lids, no containers. The good condiments were gone, all that was left were the juices, or the leftovers. The sauces were all almost done too. I had such high hopes for this place. If you are at the market, sure, pop in for mexican. Just dont come out of your way for it. read more
