Yesterday after having our family time at Rosehills Cemetary with my father which passed away last year January 23 we decided to have dinner here. Called in and they accommodated us, party of 16 with no problem and no waiting. My fathers favorite was the Chili Verde which is very delicious. One of the things that pisses me off about a Mexican restaurant is when they try to charge you 3 bucks for a condiment cup with some tomato and onion laden gucamole. El Sombrero does not. So just for that they get three stars, lol. Seriously the food is good. Not spectacular but solid. I love their carne asada (although it's a little expensive), the flautas and the enchiladas. My little brother swears on the soft carne asada tacos smothered in the red hot sauce. The chips and salsa will stay flowing as long as you want, and they make a great Shirley Temple. The moms burrito is the thing to try at this place! It's a good sized wet burrito, that I substitute green sauce on top with cheese instead of the red. They also have a lunch buffet that's a good price and good food but it's hard for me to pass up the moms burrito. Getting take out is not the same as eating it hot out of the kitchen when we dined in but the food is still great and the portions are awesome. They seem to make up for having to get their food only through take out with bigger portions or little extras like salsa and chips. Still a favorite of mine. read more

Success! We recently had our 30th wedding anniversary at El Sombrero. The food was delicous and the service from the staff was great. We ordered the pork in chile colorado, the chicken enchiladas, rice and beans, green salad and fresh fruit. They also put out a large bowl of sour cream and the best fresh guacamole. It was nice and thick, not that watery green stuff you get at some restaurants. Our guests could not stop raving about how good the food was. One of my friends also said she thought they weren't going to get her a glass of water because of the amount of people at the event (about 170) yet, they returned quickly and with a very happy demeanor, service was fantastic. We are so glad we had our party here, they fixed the restaurant with table cloths to our liking, it looked so good that we did not add any additional decorations and the place looked great. They had a bar open to our group only. We loved everything! Thank you to everyone at El Sombrero for making our anniversary party that much more special. I love this place. I have been coming here for years. 17 years to be exact!!! I've had my baby showers here too!! I haven't ordered anything here that I didn't like! I love their lunch buffet. The jaiva they serve at the buffet is bomb and has a mean kick to it, love it. I absolutely love their chille relleno. You can't go wrong! Most places are hit and miss with a relleno but not here. The beef fajita salad and the moms burrito are a must try. The place is real nice, recently renovated within the last few years. The staff is courteous and attentive. An old established restaurant. So saw sign, Buffet. I stopped. Parking good. SO I went in, and Ate. Buffet- $8.75 out door, no drink. The selections lacking. Poor service. The soup no meats, and very bland, THE Chicken Fraitias, not hot, poor taste, chicken was nearly white colored. As a DIABETIC I do not eat any high carb foods. Tee salad there, was ok, and I piled on TOP some kind of Meat dish for flavor. Tasted ok. Today and I do know why, I have diarrhea. Its been 20 years since I ate there, and never again. read more

It was so bad! When we got our bowl of chips they was a rotten eaten apple under the chips! Been here twice. First time had the tacos dorados. Which i recommend. Saturday u had the Pork Chops. So flavorful. Only thing was the beans. They must have been running out because the portion was not a good portion size. This is a nice family place. I Recommend it. read more

I gave this place 3 stars not because of the food (the food was awesome) but because of the variety. I only went for the lunch buffet but usually you can tell a lot about a Mexican restaurant from their Sunday brunch/lunch buffet. The variety at the lunch buffet here is very minimum. I counted only cheese enchiladas, menudo, chile colorado, chicken fajitas, pozole, and rice and beans. Most Sunday brunches at Mexican restaurant have almost twice as much as that. read more

Took at least 15min for me to place my order..there's one guy running around like his heads cut off.. Stopped for a while and started taking my family since they're nearby. Well mistake, Mistake, mistake! Food is average and service is horrible!!! I even almost got into a fist fight with the waiter (owners family) when I mentioned my son order was incorrect! Never again will I dine there.Bc they're so close to my house we go bc they're convenient but not worth it. What's more this place is always empty but bc they have one waiter/waitress you're forced to wait. You go without drinks, it's dark and dingy. It's a shame bc they used to b good. But, with places like this, it comes down to the service and as long as they have decent food, I'll come again. They have a Mexican buffet. I came on a weekday, not sure about the schedule... Actually, I do know it ends at 2:00pm. Not too big of a selection, but what they has was pretty good. Two types of enchiladas, green and red. Chili Colorado I believe is what it's called. Ceviche, tortellinis (surprised to see Italian food, but OK :) , they usual beans, rice, menudo, etc... Good service, clean environment. read more

Mom's Burrito is a must-try! Sometimes, though, on Saturdays they can have up to two banquets going on and the restaurant part gets very loud and sometimes the banquet guest overflow into that area. But the service is good and speedy! read more

I enjoy getting the taquito salad from there. Service is friendly and attentive most times I have gone. Been here a good amount of times... when I was little, and a few times recently... let me start off by saying... !!!!!HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!! Our server was terrible. Not friendly... she looked as if she didn't even care about her job. Let me also include that this place was not at all packed.... Anyway, my mother and I finished our meals and still had a plate on the table. We were having our drinks and she came and brought us the bill. She didn't even bother asking if we wanted dessert or if we were even done. After she brought the bill, she NEVER came back to check up on us. She walked by a few times but didn't even look in our direction. I got tired of waiting for her to come back (at least 30 minutes went by) so I had to get someone else to get me a drink. The guy who brought me the drink was nice and polite. When I finally went to pay that's when our server tried being all nice and friendly.... A little too late for that.... She went back to being her unfriendly self when she saw that I didn't leave a tip. Food was awkward.... the cheese in the enchiladas was kinda weird... or the sauce was.... couldn't tell.... I can make better food at home. El Sombrero: GET A BETTER STAFF. and better quality ingredients... I WILL NOT be coming back. Not recommended.. I'd rather go to taco bell. read more

this ranks as one of the top worst mexican restaurants i've been to (the first is azteca in san gabriel). note to self: chimichangas and fajitas on the menu? run! canned enchilada sauce and everything covered in yellow cheese? run! black olives in your enchiladas? run! i had enchiladas, which i don't usually have at mexican restaurants (there's just nothing like a homemade enchilada). the tortilla was chewy and greasy, the enchilada sauce was obviously canned, and not only was there cheese inside, but cheese all over the top. there was so much cheese on top of everything, the food was not recognizable. and then i hit the black olives. there is no worse turn off than seeing black olives in my enchiladas. the chips were ok. the salsa was your run of the mill tomato based sauce with chopped onions and cilantro. no roasted chiles anywhere in this sauce. a one layered salsa with no depth. read more
