I've been coming here my entire life.....before they had this building on Santa Anita....they used to be in the little building. The food is pretty good. Service is very slow. If you are in a hurry, do not come here. We used to go here at least 1-2 each month, but we won't go back. The service has turned us off completely. The young waitress will argue with you about why she has to bring your soup at the same time as your entree. I'd rather have my soup, then about 10 minutes later, bring my plate of food. The last time we were there....the soup actually came AFTER the entree. I mentioned that I no longer wanted it. I'm not going to push my food to the side and let it get cold just so I can eat soup. Her reply??? "Look, I told you last time that this soup takes longer to cook, so you get it later. If you want the soup before, then order the meatball soup like I've told you." Getting schooled by a 20 year old waitress on why I cannot have my soup BEFORE the entree is something I'm not going to put up with. So if you are looking for good Mexican food and don't mind being put in your place with bad attitudes and very slow service, this is the place for you. read more

I give this place a negative rating, but have to put at least a 1 for it to appear. They have horrible service, especially Erika. Has a negative demeanor at all times, never smiles. I had my wedding here. At first, Melody was super nice, seemed very accommodating to my needs. We reserved five months prior to our event. The hall walls were not as visually pleasing and the frames they had were going to be taken down. She told me they were going to bring those down per our request. She also said that we were going to be modifying the contract as we went along, she didn't have to know all the details until a week before our event. I had millions of questions along the way, so every time I would call Melody, she would not be available, they kept telling me that they were going to call me back and never did. I would try for days. They would sometimes pass me to her sister Erika (which always has an attitude, never smiles, total bad person, (for lack of a better word) just so you can have an idea how bad she behaved with us) after waiting for 20 or more minutes just to tell me that it was Melody the one that I had to speak to. Melody and Erika are twin sisters and Ruben is married to one of them. He was nice, and was the one who answered my questions when I went to take measurements of the hall to cover the walls. I had purchased cloth costing more than $100 to cover the walls. The sisters are the owners, and I guess they feel entitled to act and lie as they please (not Ruben of course). Few days before my event I went to check the hall to see how I was going to do my set up. It turns out they had painted the walls and they never informed me of such. I had already spent hundreds of dollars in cloth and pipery to cover the walls. She had raised the prices of the champaign, told me that the frames were not going to come down, and over charged me for guest that did not show up. I was furious, those frames are horrendous and do not go with a wedding these. They just didn't want to take them down just because. They had no good reason other than no. This ruined my wedding day and pictures. It was really embarrassing to have these as my background. I had to deal with Erika most of the time, she was horrible with me. Worst customer service ever. I would NOT, I repeat DO NOT recommend this place for any hall rental for any event, especially one of the most important milestones in your life. The Better Business Bureau will be informed about the lying and overcharges and horrible customer service they give to clients who simply try to have the greatest event, but instead they crush those dreams for no reason other than rob people. read more

TERRIBLE TERRIBLE, contracted a banquet room (yes sign a contract) Paid close to $2000 what a disappointment . It was like when you buy a car, they promise you the world. Never could get a Mgr to show us the actual banquet room, we did our own walk through....didn't realize this wasn't going to be good until the second attempt to see the banquet room. When we finally met with a mgr she was rude and could care less, we gave her a map of how we wanted to set up and she still got it wrong!! They forgot to set up the bar that day and my guest kept leaving my party to go to the opposite side of the restaurant for something to drink. Nightmare!!! I've been coming here since I was a young child with my family, the atmosphere is very up beat and family oriented. Service can be a little slow at times, but they are very busy. I don't mind it only because I don't like feeling rushed. I love to be able to come here and relax and enjoy a meal and some cocktails. Great service on Taco Tuesday even though they were busy. I sat at the bar and the cute blonde bartender, I think her name was Megan, was very attentive and friendly. Right off the bat, I was turned off by the tasteless chips. Salsa was ok, I think La Victoria chunky style. Someone recommended the carne asada soft taco. It looked delicious, chock full of meat and guacamole. I imagine that rabbit droppings left in the cage for a week had identical consistency. Tasteless. Lots of lemon and la victoria needed. Tamale sauce too tomato-y and again tasteless masa. The beans tasted canned, the plate was hot, the food was not. The tortilas they use are just bad. The service was good, it is december, so the ambience is warm and x-massy. The beers are big and frosty, pool table next to the big screen makes it a good hangout place. First off, I went there on a Friday after work at around 6PM. There is no receptionist/ cashier. You wait around, hoping to get someone's attention. Finally, the lone waitress comes over and sits us. The bus boy was quick w beverages and chips, but it takes the waitress 15-20 min to come and take our order. The food preparation took very long; from the time we were seated to serving time was 45 minutes! My friend ordered the cocido. There was no hueso (shank bone) and the meat was not tender, but super chewy, and tough. To pay, we went up to cashier, to avoid another 15 min waiting for the waitress. Of course, no cashier present. FINALLY waitress comes to take our payment. Meanwhile, one of the owner/ family member woman is blabbing away w a customer, oblivious to the poor running of this business. I went into this place cuz I live across the street for a quick breakfast I was on a time schedule so I got the brunch buffet I had my two little children with me that don't eat much I ordered two adult buffets and a child's meal corn dog and fries they took forever to bring out the corn dogs and fries so me and my wife got food and some soup that we did not really care for. the soup was sitting on the table so we let the kids pick at it they liked it. they brought my kids food out with soggy fries and a soggy corn dog they didn't care much for it so we let them continue to eat the soup when I went to look a the bill it was a little high. I went to the front paid the bill and even tip the waiter even if they only came over asking if I wanted a refill one time. I ask the hostess in the front why I was charged for a child's buffet .she asked the waiter, the waiter replied because both the kids are eating soup I said thats fine you rather have the soup go to waste then for the kids to eat what they didn't like the food you brought them and also I'm not going to let my kids sit there and watch me eat while they wait for their food any other place not a big deal but here it was they wanted that 8.99 rather then a customer .the food was for lack of a better word crappy I might have come in there again for some drinks and appetizers and may be to catch a game but they just lost a customer I have other people that go there and I will spread the word this is ridiculous I've never had somebody charge me at a buffet because my kids ate a little bit of soup or anything are you hurting for money I should ask for my tip back for s***** service if you see my kids eating soup you should a went to the back and got that order out not went back and charge me for some soup that my kids took two bites of that I wasn't going to eat anyway so watch out when Erica's waiting your table she watches everything I think she's one of the managers so she should have took care of the situation not just charge me for an extra kids buffet how freaking ridiculous read more

We decided to have my mom's 60th birthday party there, since we had a babyshower there not too long ago which was a very great experience. Well first off the guy that initially helped us reserving the room gave us alot of wrong info regarding the room (as you will understand as you continue reading). We had 67 people confirmed, as people were coming in it just seemed like we were running out of space. So me and my sister counted the chairs and we realized they shorted us 1 table and 7 chairs. When I brought it to the owners attention she said they would bring the table and chairs in after we were doen eating. Mind you, all this time me and my family were standing at the bar this whole time because we had given up our seats for the guests! So when we were done eating I looked for our waiter and he was no where to be found as they were having another party in the other banquet room so I guess they were the ones that got all of the attention! So by the time he asked me if he could remove the food some people were already starting to leave, so me and my family members were scattered througout the room sitting in various seats, then we had a DVD presentation for my mom, and the guy who initially helped us never mentioned to us we had to bring our own DVDplayer, then on top of that we wasted 20 minutes trying to get sound on the tv, no one who worked there helped in any way, i mean it was just crazy. My DJ is the one who saved it, he hooked up his speaker and we were able to get sound. Then about 9:00 the waiter started to remove the baskets of chips from everyones tables, and we had to constantly try to find him to fill the baskets throughout the party. We were supposed to have coffee, no one brought coffee. It was terrible service! Then when I talked to the owner about getting reimbursed for the table and chairs that were missing she went back and forth with me on how we still wanted the buffet table in the room and thats why they couldn't bring in the tables and chairs. I kept trying to tell her that those things should have been there before my party started. So she didnt make me pay for 12 enchiladas, wow big deal! We paid 14.00 per person and she gives me credit for 12 enchiladas. We paid alot of money to have this party here and I felt we were ripped off! It is safe to say I will never have any function here and if anyone ever inquires about this place I will tell them not to do it. Me, my family and friends love this place. They have an excellent staff and food, whether you get breakfast, brunch, lunch, happy hour (which you can order food also) or dinner their service is outstanding with good prices. Here is one example of how wonderful they are: One Saturday, I had a group of people come over to my house and for the first time I decided not to cook, so I ordered take out for 30 people and it was ready for pick up within 30 minutes after my call (wow was that amazing!!!!!!). So, then I went to pick up the food by myself (everyone at my house was having a good time I didn't want to brother anybody) and you know what, El Sombrero took the food out to my car and put it in my trunk for me... now that service is outstanding. When you meet the owners of the restaurant you will feel very comfortable and you may even feel like family because they love people... I totally recommend El Sombrero on Santa Anita Ave, in El Monte as the go to place to eat anytime. Love them :) read more

like always just trying new places came on a sunday afternoon with one of my friend..sad this place looks like it has potential but it need some work all around,seats are old table etc,,back to the food i order steak picado,appetizer sampler and a a rasb drink..well lets start with the steak picado .rice taste like is been in the fridge for days and over cooked,beans have no salt or taste the small salad that came with it was hot, and the steak hmm i had better,,when i got the plate it was hot ..i guess to melt the cheddar on top of the beans but why would they add the salad and put it on the oven ??O.o not smart.also the outer rim of the plate had guacamole ?? bad presentation ..for $12.95 it was a ripoff now for the appetizer ,wing was frozen food ,jalapenos popper i had better in jacks,quesadillas hmmm just kill me with the excessive cheese.i kind off got mad and just stop eating and left every thing ,,plus i was waiting for the check after 10 minutes i just got up after leaving a 5$ tip and walked to the counter.i laddie ignore us and the other was talking and the phone for about 5 minutes so i waitedon the seat waiting to get cashed out,,hmmm bad bad bad will never come here until they solve this issues..funny i basicly spend $48 for nothing after i walked out i was still hungry so i just when to the bionicos next door and bought me a hot dog and a juice. read more

ok first off , let me tell you that i used to go there long time ago and the service was decent, don't know what happened there , i ended up going there in a graduation night , big mistake , they were busy and only one waiter ,which i remembered him because he used to be a busboy in the mornings and he was always nice ,good for him that became a waiter but poor guy was running trying to please everybody, which was impossible, i don't blame the guy because you could see that he really really tried, the bartender who happened to be one of the owners (so i was told) wouldn't lift a finger to help, the food was ok but the plates looked sloppy, I've seen the same plates in the lunch time and those look clean and great , anyway my point is that the service was awful , even when we walked up to the counter to pay the waiter had to come and be the cashier , 5 stars for him none to the place , hope they do some thing about it , because i remember it used to be a good place. read more
