Terrific mole sauce. Tacos are delicious (pastor and steak). Consistently good food (we've been here at least four times) and the service is always welcoming and attentive ... with personality. Our waiter asked if we wanted dessert and when we said no, he suggested shots of tequila.

Carnitas and Tampiquena

Everything about this place is amazing. The food is so authentic and always tastes great!

We heard that this place opened. So we had to try it! Complimentary chips N 2 kinds of salsa. We both had a horchata. Very good! I had the Alambres with steak and shrimp.. very flavorful. My husband had the Burrito Chicago which he enjoyed. We both had plenty of leftovers.

Friends! You have to stop in and have a meal at this very nice spot!…read more It has been in Mokena, IL for 2 years. We went early afternoon on a weekday, so there was no wait, and the place was almost empty. The water came in an adorable carafe, with 6 oz "shot glasses". I found it to be so cute! And it was just enough water for sipping. It was iced cold. I believe we were just thirst and drank it all, lol. Free to the table- House Chips and Salsa. Simple and straight to the point. Ok, to the good stuff! Starters/App: We ordered a "Salsa Flight". It is just what it sounds like, a flight of assorted salsas. There were 6. Great for sharing, not big portions. It ranged from sweet, smokey, fruity, savory, to spicy baby! Of course it came with tortilla chips. So, so good! We also ordered Birria Egg Rolls. Friends!!! Delightfully yummers! Crisp on the outside, cheesy and meaty inside. The cooks were creating magical bites for me this day. lol Very good bites. I ordered a Pina-Colada Margarita. This sip was DELICIOUSNESS. Omg! Like....fresh, and powerful, yet well balanced. TASTY SIPS FRIENDS! I ordered what was like a Taco/loaded steak potato with all the trimmings (cheese, steak pico, sour cream). That is what came on it. There were other option of meats. Because I was so focused, I don't even recall what my date ate. HA! But I will say that my potato was not the best. It was over and under cooked. You are probably wondering like "HOW IS THAT"? Well, the potato was not cooked all the way through(hard pieces), but it was burnt at the bottom of the potato (images to come). That was disappointing. The starters/apps were so tasty, I ended up not finishing the potato, but I was saddened that they served the potato knowing the shape it was in. The meat and cheese and such couldn't even hide it once you moved the toppings to the side. Now, don't let my unhappy potato stop you from checking this place out. I am looking forward to bring my family back, and a few friends. If off sips and chips alone, its a place to get familiar with. Finally had a chance, and I will return. As always, you don't have to take my word for it, go get you some!

My first time ever visiting A Bite of Mexico and I must say that the food was absolutely amazing! I…read moreordered the Aunt Caroline's and it absolutely blew me away. However, the service was sub par as our waitress seemed to steer clear of our table yet she mad sure to check on all of her other tables frequently. We even had to ask other servers and busser if they could track her down for us. The icing on the cake was that they ran out of water cups and so now 6 of us are drinking out of the water pitcher that they left at the table. When we asked if we could have more cups we were told that they were out of them, yet drinks continued to be made at the bar (in cups). We would have even taken paper cups instead of drinking from the same water pitcher. It was just an overall disappointing experience for it to be my first time. The only positives were the women and gentleman in the front greeting and seating and the young men who brought the food out to the table and cleared the table. I really want to change my rating for just the food and certain individuals but I just cannot get around 6 different peoples lips on the same water pitcher and nor form of compensation for the inconvenience (not looking for money off but at least a complimentary bottle of water or something). But because of the service and lack of awareness of your customers all sharing a single water pitcher and not even checking in to see if we needed anything or if we were even enjoying the food is just unacceptable.

Checked out this Mexican restaurant that's pretty basic. Don Jose's is one of the many such places…read morein New Lenox. It has about what is expected which is margaritas along with burritos and tacos. Good enough. The prices are kind of high for being average as well as portions. Big restaurant with lots of room for groups. It's got a bar area along with the rest of it. There was more than enough space as there was hardly anyone in it though. Even with it being in the evening. We were the only ones at first then a few more came later. A few pretty good things here. It's about $11 for a margarita. Got the Prickly Pear and it was pretty good. They at least use strong tequila. It's about $16 for a burrito. We each got the Veggie Burrito, which is one of the few options without any meat. Comes with cheese and crema which I left off, but still had enough in it. There were beans, lettuce, and tomatoes and it came with beans and rice. For sure it's pretty okay for Americanized Mexican food. It's not authentic but it's still way better than Taco Bell junk. There's many other restaurants around here with the same kind of food at better prices meaning we aren't in a hurry to get back here soon.

The interior is modern, festive, and inviting, with a lively bar and an open, clean layout. Right off the bat, we were treated to complimentary chips and salsa, and let me tell you--this might have been the highlight of the night. The salsa was bursting with flavor (hands down the best I've had at any Mexican restaurant), and the chips were clearly fresh, not just poured from a bag. For drinks, we tried the Santo Horchata and the Coconut Margarita. Both were strong, balanced, and refreshing--no watered-down cocktails here. We ordered a spread of dishes to really test the menu: Tortilla Soup, a Chicken Burrito Bowl, and five different tacos--Al Pastor, Crispy Pork Belly, Shrimp & Chorizo, Tajin & Agave Chicken, and Carne Asada. * The Tortilla Soup was immaculate--rich, flavorful, and carrying just the right kick of spice. * The Chicken Burrito Bowl was generous and far superior in quality compared to chain restaurants trying to do the same thing. * And the tacos? Worth the hype. Here's how I'd rank them: 1. Crispy Pork Belly - an unexpected standout, tender and packed with flavor, elevated even more by the sauce. 2. Tajin & Agave Chicken - no wonder this one won Best Taco. 3. Shrimp & Chorizo - unique and hearty. 4. Carne Asada - solid and flavorful. 5. Al Pastor - tasty, but outshined by the others. All in all, Don Joses is easily the best Mexican restaurant we've had in New Lenox. From the atmosphere and service to the unforgettable chips & salsa, strong drinks, and outstanding food, this spot is a 10/10 must-try.
