Friends! You have to stop in and have a meal at this very nice spot! It has been in Mokena, IL for 2 years. We went early afternoon on a weekday, so there was no wait, and the place was almost empty. The water came in an adorable carafe, with 6 oz "shot glasses". I found it to be so cute! And it was just enough water for sipping. It was iced cold. I believe we were just thirst and drank it all, lol. Free to the table- House Chips and Salsa. Simple and straight to the point. Ok, to the good stuff! Starters/App: We ordered a "Salsa Flight". It is just what it sounds like, a flight of assorted salsas. There were 6. Great for sharing, not big portions. It ranged from sweet, smokey, fruity, savory, to spicy baby! Of course it came with tortilla chips. So, so good! We also ordered Birria Egg Rolls. Friends!!! Delightfully yummers! Crisp on the outside, cheesy and meaty inside. The cooks were creating magical bites for me this day. lol Very good bites. I ordered a Pina-Colada Margarita. This sip was DELICIOUSNESS. Omg! Like....fresh, and powerful, yet well balanced. TASTY SIPS FRIENDS! I ordered what was like a Taco/loaded steak potato with all the trimmings (cheese, steak pico, sour cream). That is what came on it. There were other option of meats. Because I was so focused, I don't even recall what my date ate. HA! But I will say that my potato was not the best. It was over and under cooked. You are probably wondering like "HOW IS THAT"? Well, the potato was not cooked all the way through(hard pieces), but it was burnt at the bottom of the potato (images to come). That was disappointing. The starters/apps were so tasty, I ended up not finishing the potato, but I was saddened that they served the potato knowing the shape it was in. The meat and cheese and such couldn't even hide it once you moved the toppings to the side. Now, don't let my unhappy potato stop you from checking this place out. I am looking forward to bring my family back, and a few friends. If off sips and chips alone, its a place to get familiar with. Finally had a chance, and I will return. My first time ever visiting A Bite of Mexico and I must say that the food was absolutely amazing! I ordered the Aunt Caroline's and it absolutely blew me away. However, the service was sub par as our waitress seemed to steer clear of our table yet she mad sure to check on all of her other tables frequently. We even had to ask other servers and busser if they could track her down for us. The icing on the cake was that they ran out of water cups and so now 6 of us are drinking out of the water pitcher that they left at the table. When we asked if we could have more cups we were told that they were out of them, yet drinks continued to be made at the bar (in cups). We would have even taken paper cups instead of drinking from the same water pitcher. It was just an overall disappointing experience for it to be my first time. The only positives were the women and gentleman in the front greeting and seating and the young men who brought the food out to the table and cleared the table. I really want to change my rating for just the food and certain individuals but I just cannot get around 6 different peoples lips on the same water pitcher and nor form of compensation for the inconvenience (not looking for money off but at least a complimentary bottle of water or something). But because of the service and lack of awareness of your customers all sharing a single water pitcher and not even checking in to see if we needed anything or if we were even enjoying the food is just unacceptable. read more

Clearly a true chef-run operation. The food and drinks are excellent. However, they're going to learn the hard way, like Don Joe's 1/2 mile west of them in New Lenox that closed, that they're not on Rush Street and that clientele isn't eating here. You won't last long here charging $8 for a taco. And it will be a shame because the food really is done well. But $19 for "Baja Style Ahi Tuna Tartare" appetizer which is a small round scoop that works for about 4 chips and $19 for a quesabirria burrito will scare off the middle class suburbanites all paying $10k in taxes and spending another $10k so each of their 3 kids can play on some "travel" team because they believe they're going to get a "D1 scholarship" (they won't.) It's just the nature of the demographic. He opened in the wrong zip code. Service was a little on the slow side, but food was very good. I hate to take 2 stars off strictly on price alone, but Yelp doesn't offer a 3.5 option. However, the prices are so exorbitant that I couldn't just take 1 star away. If you have budgeted for a nice Mexican dinner, this is a very good choice. However, I think maybe 1 in 10 people says "let's go spend a lot of money on Mexican food". Visited on Cinco de Mayo, so it's important to note the restaurant was extremely busy and the staff was clearly overwhelmed by the influx of patrons. That said, the food and drinks still managed to impress. We started with chips and salsa at the table--both were balanced nicely in flavor, not too spicy and not too mild. We also tried two margaritas: pineapple and mango. Both were exquisite, striking the perfect balance between boozy and refreshing without being overly sweet or strong. For appetizers, we went with the guacamole, which was deceptively large and packed with flavor--definitely a great value. The chicken taco dinner was solid and enjoyable. While it didn't stand out dramatically from tacos at other spots, it still hit the mark for a satisfying classic. I ordered the quesabirria burrito, which isn't something you see on every menu. It was a great call--the burrito was generously packed with tender, braised meat. It took a while to finish, but every bite was worth it. Mixed opinions about this spot. For a bar to come hang out, probably worthwhile. For a spot to come get authentic Mexican food, not so much. The Quesabirria was missing flavor, and was a bit flat. The Pastor was mostly pineapple, and again the taste was missing something. The rice was good, and the salsa and chips were good though. Service was fast, and four different people came out to check in on us so that was neat. Overall, this spot is probably good for those who are stepping into the flavors of authentic Mexican food. This was my wife and friends' first time to A Bite of Mexico, and let me say, outside of the food being excellent, the customer service was above and beyond. Let me explain why. My wife is a kidney transplant and can't share chips, etc. So I asked Rene,e co-owner with her husband Rick, if my wife could get a little basket of chips for herself, and I explained why. She said of course. I sat back down, and not 2 minutes pass and Rick came to our table and said he is going to change the oil in one of the deep fryers and make a fresh batch for my wife, so there is no type of cross-contamination. Very pricey. Service & staff were very nice & friendly with the exception of the female bartender that never smiled at all and looked absolutely unhappily miserable. She made 1 of the margaritas incorrectly & had to remake it and then made the wrong flavor margarita. I gave up and just kept it. Food is served very very quickly which is great if you are in a rush, but no time for an appetizer. House margarita was good but again very overpriced. Ordered a chicken dish, chicken meat had no seasonings, but not too bad once mixed with toppings & guacamole. Ordered a steak burrito which was good. 2 simple meals & 2 margaritas was $81. Third visit.... Sat outside. The manager seated us, got us salsa and chips and said server would be with us shortly. Waited a while and he finally came over. We ordered drinks and meals....waited for quite a while and finally received the drinks. The manager brought out the meals, extra salsa and napkins. I the server didn't check with us for another long time. We needed refills so he took our glasses and got refills. The food was good but the service was terrible. The manager was attentive, but the server was bad.... The lowest tip that I left in a very long time. The service was good and our food was served quickly. The portions as others mentioned are small for the price. A three piece shrimp taco was $7. The salsa was listed as mild and was definitely not mild. The steak in the taco was cut into very small pieces and were a bit fatty and very salty. Margaritas are small for $15. Fabulous! I'm from Arizona, and I'm use to (what I consider Mexican food) Hadn't found to many places in the SW suburbs of Chicago that made me feel like home....Until A Bite if Mexico came along. I have been hearing about this place & since my favorite Mexican restaurant has closed, I've been searching for a new favorite. The people were extremely nice when we got there and the place is decorated really nice. I like how they put water on every table. I got Aunt Caroline's tacos. and they were really, really good but the rice was dry and did not have a lot of flavor and the beans were OK, it said they had chorizo in the beans,but I could not taste it. I ordered a :-) it was seven dollars for one :-) they did have a lot of sauce and chunks of pork on top of the tamale, but it was spicy, I prefer just a plain old homemade tamale. My husband had the enchiladas with mole sauce and the mole sauce was outstanding. We will definitely be going back and trying different meals. The drink menu looks really good. I would like to try that next as well. I would definitely say go there. It was a little pricey, but what isn't nowadays. read more

Granted it was a Saturday night, the service was sketch and it was like one of those things where you're looking around and saying "when is someone going to take our order," "when will we get a refill", "does she know she still has our table?"... my husband ended up eating the rest of his fajitas as a salad with my left over lettuce and tomatoe from my meal because no one came by to ask if he wanted more tortillas. I may chalk the poor service up to it being Cinco de Mayo, but being totally honest the service is lacking!! I've been here a total of 20 minutes and my table has the same Pre-wrapped utensils that were sitting here when we were seated. I suppose you're required to raise your hand if you'd like to place an order for the bare minimum of water, chips and salsa!???? Twenty five minutes into our wait we received our drinks and an apology for the very apparent lack of service in comparison to all the tables buzzing with customer service detail surrounding us. I haven't even begun to review the food, and already I'm thinking we should have left and gone to Uncle Julio's or even Pepe's for non-appologetic accommodations. I felt sorry for our server Sophia , who along with the hostess felt the need to apologize for the blatant lack of customer service we were receiving. I'm never one to make race a part of the equation, but boy today sure felt like and was in our faces , blaringly evident that we arrived with the wrong amount of melanin on display. The Tacos my hubby ordered were fried shut, rendering the shredded lettuce, tomatoes and crumble cheese basically useless. The shrimp tacos were messy as they were served on paper thin shells that literally fell apart in my hands. Fat Rosies in Frankfort is a better Experience for shrimp tacos , trust me, and thank me later! Alas, the two things thing that we received expeditiously, were the check and the bus-boy to clear the table. I was excited to try this restaurant and I was very disappointed with the food and service. The red enchiladas were horrible. The red sauce tasted as if it came from a can. My steak fajitas were not that bad but the Mexican rice that came with it was hard (undercooked). The beans were actually good. The pork tamale was just okay. This restaurant definitely does NOT serve authentic Mexican food. I will definitely not return. Our waitress was nice but did not refill our drinks or water jug. My husband had to get up and go to the bar himself to ask for refills. Our waitress saw him do this and didn't even apologize. Poor serve and horrible food. First off I did not sit in and eat I just ordered to go but when I walked in the place was cute and very clean. The customers sitting at the tables had different yummy mixed drinks that I'm definitely gonna have to come back and try. The staff was super friendly and welcoming even gave my daughter a candy cane. I ordered the quesoBirria taco dinner to go. The nice hostess said it would be 10 minutes so I went down the street to oberweise to pick up some eggnog then drove back. I called and the lady on the phone said they were just wrapping it up ,with that being said I sat in my car for a few minutes before I was ready to head in and get my food but I didn't need to because a nice gentleman who work there I'm unsure if it was the owner or not, but came out with my food to my car which was totally nice of him! Now for the food. The rice was kind of bland and dry not a fan. The beans were not bad has flavor. Now the quesabirria tacos were tender and had good flavor just wish it had a little more of a kick as far as spiciness. They didn't add any salsas which was a bummer. The price for the dinner and keep in mind I added an extra taco was around $31 for one person. My Husband I went to A Bite of Mexico for Dinner. We both thought the restaurant was Amazing. All of the food was exceptional. The chips were very fresh. The salsa was also very fresh, and was not spicy. We had the fried tacos and rice. Both were very authentic with such great flavor. We had Sandy as our server. Oustanding! Guacamole was generous and flavorful! My friend ordered the chicken enchiladas with green sauce and dinner with beans and rice. Sauce had a bit of a kick, but oh so good. I ordered the chicken taco dinner on corn shells-delicious!! We have had authentic Mexican food before and this place rocks it! Both meals had a generous portion of quality chicken. Chips and salsa were served. One of the bus boys asked if we wanted more, and we mentioned to bring some when he had a minute. He came back right away with a refill of both chips and salsa. I would also like to mention that this is the first Mexican restaurant where the chips were NOT greasy. Kudos. A huge shout out to Sandy, our server, who gave us time to review the menu, came back to place our order and made sure we were satisfied with everything. At 6:30 last night, my wife and I met our daughter, her son Adam, and her husband Jay at this new restaurant they had been there before and Ted it very highly. I didn't know what to order. This is the first time I've ever been in a Mexican restaurant When they didn't have chicken fajitas that's all I've ever ordered Mexican restaurant and I've been Mexican restaurant so I don't eat anything with cheese or anything with pork and chicken enchiladas I ordered an order and my wife ordered an order of cheese beans and sand rice they were delicious The chicken was fresh white meat and they were covered in salsa. It was terrific. She had the same thing my daughter I'm referring to but she had it with a Molay sauce and let me sample and they were even better. Their dishes are definitely prepared with high quality ingredients and taste authentic- there is not a thing there that tastes "food service". I went back with some friends and experienced better service and excellent food. Our waitress was Grace and she was very attentive and friendly. The chorizo and beans were delicious, the hard shell tacos reminded me of my grandmas tacos. The rice was also delicious. I am looking forward to going back and trying more of the Salamanca cuisine.
