My friend wanted to try this place for lunch so we decided to go here to give it a try. We went on a weekday so the place was pretty empty and parking was not an issue. We were seated outdoors in their pretty courtyard and there was a lot of shade overhead. Ordered the chilaquiles with mole and it was good. I think I would order it with red or green salsa next time. The mole was a little plain so I added the salsa that came with the complimentary chips. The quesadilla plate was a large portion and was good. Will have to come back to try they happy hour next time too!

Excellent and authentic Mexican food. Tortillas made fresh next to the dining room. Generous happy hour offerings. We sampled the house margarita which was ok on the happy hour. You can get a much larger drink off the regular menu. The chips and guacamole were very fresh. Seems like the chips were house made. The potato flautas were a big hit which we really enjoyed. The roasted corn salad had less corn than I imagined. So take a look at my photo to calibrate your expectations. Overall a very good dining experience.

Charming Old Town San Diego Mexican restaurant with authentic good food. Cane here on a Sunday night with hubby, daughter and son in law. I ordered the carne asada burrito and a glass of wine. The rest of party had different cocktails. They were all delicious. Daughter had an amazing vegetarian rajas burrito. This burrito was the reason she brought us here. It was Super cheesy and delicious. The service was great, absolutely no complaints. El Sueño is a charming restaurant with a rustic Mexican Hacienda vibe and live trees in dining area. They have a Happy Hour along with a taco Tuesday special. Will definitely come back on a Tuesday!

I'm always on the lookout for a good Mexican restaurant. I stopped by here for a little snack and to wait out the traffic. Inside brings you back to a nostalgic place. So I loved the atmosphere in the restaurant but I really didn't care much for the food. The salsa was pretty bland. We tried their Happy hour and ordered the potato flautas, steak taco and their watermelon margarita. The flautas' weren't hot. Which doesn't make much sense since they weren't busy. Only a few customers when we got there. The upside is that they do have a parking area for customers so in Old Town that's a plus!

Stumbled upon this restaurant late at night after walking around Old Town San Diego. Super glad that they were still open. The place was chill with a bit of a romantic ambience. We got Rolled Tacos, and - I forget the official name of this - but it's like a crunch wrap. Both were delicious. I liked that my Taquitos were crunchy and did not get too soggy with all the toppings on them. The Crunch Wrap was hot, cheesy and meaty. I asked if they offered complementary chips and salsa. Our server said yes, but only the first round. I felt that was kind of a weird thing to say. But one round was more than plenty for us. Loved the 2 salsa's - especially the red spicy one. Overall, a cool place to chill and munch on some Mexican food. It's also close to the trolley station, which is helpful.

Came here primarily for happy hour. The inside decor is a very cute set up with pink barstools and greenery everywhere. The Watermelon Margarita was $8, which is good pricing for HH. For food, the potato flautas were a lot smaller than expected. It was one flauta cut into two pieces. It also lacked a lot of flavor, very bland. They also didn't taste very hot. The steak tacos were better.

I love Mexican food and this place will satisfy your cravings for it. Nice spot in old town SD with cool vibes. Our server suggested a secret menu item so we tried that and it was really nice. Drinks were good served in fancy cups. So do ask for chefs secretenu when you go there next time. As compared to other Mexican food this place is a bit pricey but you get what you pay. Food is a little mild on spices but I am sure they can always make that adjustment. Overall nice experience on a weekend evening- good food, nice music and ambiance. I will give it a 7 on DVFM score. Cheers and enjoy !! DVFM- DEES VALUE FOR MONEY SCORE !

Had some time to kill before our train in Old Town so we decided to grab dinner at El Sueño. It's one of the easiest restaurants to walk to from there, and we're so glad we went! Francisco was such an attentive server, he always made sure we were well taken care of. Loved the birria burrito and taco plate, always appreciate when the tortillas are made in house. One of our top spots in the Old town area, and we'll definitely be back!

Visited this cute, charming, vibey restaurant located in Old Town. Wasn't sure what to expect based on the mix reviews..The ambiance and music was gr For food we ordered the tableside tortillas with sweet chili butter, surf and turf fajitas, wagyu chorizo burger, and the California burrito. They were all fairly good. The negatives were that I had asked my steak temperature to be cooked medium well and it came well done instead (no pink at all). Our server was friendly but unfortunately not attentive. Had to look for him to bring plates for our appetizers, refill our water, etc.

I was skeptical at first with this spot being in Old Town, but this place was truly amazing. Authenticity? I'll leave that to the experts. I just know this place had me eating till I was stuffed, STILL wanting more. - Chips were amazing, super crispy - Elote was extremely juicy, perfectly sauced - Cali burrito had a delicious tortilla and everything inside was yummy as well

I came across El Sueno from Tiktok, and it looked cute and aesthetic, so I was excited to try it. We got the free chips with both a red sauce and green sauce. They were pretty good, although the chips were unevenly salted, as some chips were plain and others were too salty. For my entree, I got the carne asada street tacos. I loved that they came with guacamole, as I'm a huge guac fan, and that's normally extra! I also loved the taste of the asada. It was marinated well. My only complaint was it got a little greasy.

Was intrigued by their social media, so we came in with our party of 9 for a Sunday brunch. We had reservations for an early brunch (10:00 am,) so it was pretty empty when we arrived. When I walked in, there was no one to greet or take me to my table. I wandered around a bit bit didn't find anyone, so I found myself to their outdoor patio when I ran into a waitress. I was directed to our table in their cute patio. It's decorated with colorful florals and has an overall Spanish vibe. Service was a little slow. Iced teas were not freshly brewed, so we didn't enjoy them. I ordered their Piloncillo French Toast and it was DELICIOUS! I also enjoyed a cup of their Cafe de Olla and it did not disappoint. ‼ Warning, their parking will cost you $30! If you can, park for FREE on the street, or next door at the Bazaar or across from the Bazaar is the CalTrans and there's FREE parking on weekends there. Why they are charging to park when you're choosing to spend money at their establishment already is beyond ridiculous!! I would NEVER pay that much for parking. That's more than one meal!

I feel this place is all show no go. Come for aesthetics, not for the food. And with that being said, you're paying for the aesthetics, not for the food. Decorated nice, fancy branded napkins, pretty drinks, fun menu. Everything that looks nice in photos. But the food was average, over priced, and didn't give me the "I need to come back" feels Pros: chips on chips on chips, they just kept coming! Love that. Two different salsas served with the chips-- verde and rojo (this was spicy). Homemade hand pressed tortillas. Guac was chunky (personal preference) Cons: expensive. $15 for tacos, $40 for fajitas. And nothing special about them. Drinks were inconsistent--first margarita was great but then after that they all tasted different. The ratios were off and I think they switched tequilas. The limes were so dry. Like we couldn't squeeze any juice out of the limes. The tequila tasting menu was hard to understand. And you can only tasted the * tequilas and basically all the normal tequilas you would have at home have the *

Parking is a nightmare good luck finding parking within a mile of the restaurant. Pros: atmosphere, drinks, service Cons: food wasn't great for the price, restaurant was small and crowded, no parking Service: All of our servers were friendly and very accommodating. Gave us some knowledge on the menu and recommended cocktails based on our preference. I had spilled my drink and they were quick to make me another one. Food: I had intended to get the prime ribeye cap steak but they ran out for the night around 8pm. I shared the steak sampler which came with four different cuts of steak and 4 sauces. I ordered medium and it was cooked medium/medium rare which was fine with me, it also had a good sear, almost burnt though. Out of the four steaks, we only liked two based off flavor and tenderness. The other two were more tough and gamey. None of the sauces really stood out but the bordelaise and horseradish were good. For our sides we got fries, roasted broccoli, and the grilled wedge salad. Fries were average. The roasted broccoli had really good flavor, I expected the broccoli to be al dente but it was cooked to mush and drenched in sauce. The grilled wedge salad was decent, there was a slightly bitter taste to it. I know it says grilled wedge but the experience of biting into the salad and it being both hot and cold was not pleasant. Cocktails: I tried the Honey Ryder and New Wave. These were recommended as the more fruity/sweet cocktails. You can definitely taste the alcohol but it's only 2oz so it's not too strong. Ambience: 10/10 I got seated downstairs by the bar. Only thing about downstairs is that it's too dark to take photos unless you use flash. Overall, I agree with the other reviews saying to go just for drinks and appetizers. I would go again just to sit upstairs and get drinks and take pictures. We left unsatisfied and ended up getting in-n-out after.

We walked in and found out that they have a strict age limit, which I discovered when they insisted on scanning my ID into a machine. I'm closer to the tomb than the womb, so I'm not entirely sure what they were expecting to find. But apparently, the machine needed to verify that I'm legally old enough to be there. Afterward, the bartender thanked me by name. My person who is closer to the womb than the tomb forgot their ID. It could have been Justin Bieber, or myself for that matter, but it wasn't going to happen. The burgers would have to be, to go. First impression is the decor is classic, and the place was absolutely immaculate. Later, I noticed the bathrooms were spotless, and perhaps most importantly, there was no graffiti on the walls. It's a class act establishment where civilization survives. There's a back covered patio surrounded by ferns, a great game room, and then the backyard where the food trailer is located. It was Sunday around 2pm, and while talking to the bartender, they mentioned that they had wings out for happy hour and the games. But I had my sights set on the Wagyu burgers. If I must say so myself, it was an excellent choice on my part. The patties were perfectly seasoned, and the toppings mixed with the Wagyu juices to create a delicious little sauce. I happened to have some chips underneath the burger, and they basically became the lucky recipients of all that wonderful burger grease. Very, very yummy. Walking around while waiting for my food, one can't help but notice that the bourbon selection is fantastic. While my person was booted, I can still say that all the employees were cordial, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. No attitude, no nonsense just good service. While it's listed as a dive bar, it's way too chic for that classification. I love a welcoming bars with great burgers, an excellent bourbon selection, and enough character to keep me coming back. Which I plan on doing in force!

From the spooky, dark, skulls old school ambiance and decor, to the experience of not ordering from a menu, everything about it made it feel unique and curated making it feel like a true individualized experience. As mentioned, there are no menus. We sat at the bar, the bartender makes casual conversation with you regarding the types of drinks you enjoy. He curated something for both my husband and I based on what we shared we enjoyed. The drinks were delicious. The entry was very cool! It felt as if you were entering a hidden spot - which you do. When you enter the restaurant, you let the hostess know you're there for the Noble Experience. She let us know to head to the wall with the kegs (which is actually a door). You enter and there's a small waiting area where you're greeted by another hostess. This place is a 20/10. We can't wait to return on our next visit to SD.

First round was great, not exactly what we ordered but still quality cocoktail. Second round was not good at all. And especially not what we ordered lol The wait on off days can be 5-10 minutes. Busy days it can be 1-2 hours. Drinks: 5/10 Service: 6/10 Atmosphere: 7/10 Value: 4/10

I love their menu design. It gives a lot of attention to each drink with a clear description breakdown along with the level of alcohol meter. A lot of the drinks are STRONG and their presentations are magnificent.

We were confused, along with many other folks in line. I think they were just preparing their tables way longer than expected. Other than that inconvenience, the bar itself was beautifully decorated and very on-theme. The drinks were very much giving "tiki bar but in space" and were veryyyy strong. They have an alcohol strength spectrum on their menu so you can guide yourself through the drinks. We got drinks that weren't even on the strong side of the scale and they were still pretty strong. This would be a great place for a pregame for sure! They even have some food and seasonal soft serve other than their normal drinks. Overall, great service, strong drinks, and fun vibes. Perfect place for a pregame!

Exceptional Hosting by Keagan at Side Bar and Gaslamplighter!…read more If you are planning a corporate event, team-bonding outing, or just looking for an unforgettable night out in San Diego, you absolutely need to visit Side Bar and Gaslamplighter. Our team was in town for our quarterly QBR last quarter, and we went out afterward to let loose on the town. We randomly came across Side Bar on a Thursday night and met Blake the manager who introduced us to Keagan, who completely transformed our entire trip. He was the ultimate curator! He immediately assessed our group's vibe, realized we were out for team bonding, and invited us right in, securing a fantastic VIP booth for my team. After a few shots and grooving to great music, he personally ushered us over to Gaslamplighter for a change of scenery, where we spent the rest of the night enjoying amazing drinks and live karaoke. The experience was so incredible that on our second night out, after hopping around various other bars in the Gaslamp Quarter, our team unanimously decided to end our night right back at Side Bar. Once again, Keagan took flawless care of us. He hooked us up with another booth and a few bottles. We happened to be celebrating a team member's birthday that night, and Keagan made it unforgettable. The staff brought out the full VIP treatment with bright sparklers and "Happy Birthday" signs to close out the night in style. What makes Keagan so special is his attention to detail. Even while working a packed club and making his rounds to ensure everyone was taken care of, he constantly circled back to check on our group. He made every single person on our team feel incredibly important and looked after on both nights. We walked away with fantastic pictures, amazing team memories, and a strong desire to return. Shout out to Keagan and the exceptional teams at both Side Bar and Gaslamplighter; memories were truly made! I highly recommend these venues for any group outing in downtown San Diego.

The place has a nice vibe and our table came with a liquor bottle of our choice, champagne and a cute board+slide show of our bride. The only reason why I'm giving it 3 stars is because I don't like how they allow everyone to the back once it gets busy. We had people trying to get on top of our reservation and there was a lot least 2-3 areas where people threw up around us that wasn't cleaned. It became VERY crowded and honestly uncomfortable, it didn't seem like there was any staff moderation for people being overly intoxicated or over capacity. The place is beautiful but I just had better experiences even at smaller venues.
