After a day at the beach, we needed Mexican flavor. Quick Yelp search showed we were close by this place. It was totally empty at lunchtime, but I think that was due to the road construction out front. Gentleman who served us was so happy to see us and treated us well. We had: *Enchilada Plate - with carne asada and all the fixings. Delicious and the portion was so big, we took half of it home for the next day. *Lingua taco - tender and sabroso. *Al Pasto taco - not as good as the carne asada and lingua. Too much gristle and mild flavor. *Taco salad - with al pastor. I should've gotten the carne asada on it instead. The salad was huge and full of beans, rice, guacamole and sour cream. The shell was fresh fried for me. *Fries - Just 'cuz. Delicious, hot and crispy. It wasn't a cheap lunch by any stretch (approx $60) but it was fresh, convenient and delicious. read more

It's not bad. It is over-priced for what you get. And, the service is aloof at best. I would assume the man and woman that helped us were the owners, and if that is the case, I would have expected them to be more engaging. But, people are people. As for the food, all kind of average. Nothing to make your taste-buds stand up and cheer, but nothing to make you say blah! We had a cheeseburger and fries, a chili relleno burrito, taquitos and a BRC burrito and it was all just okay. Breakfast burritos here are delicious, fresh, quick, and filling. We tried the bacon and potato and the machaca and both were great. We went here two days in a row during a weekend trip to the dunes. Service is friendly and attentive. Highly recommend for breakfast! read more

I ordered a California Burrito here because Juanita's was closed. It's a lot cheaper but smaller. I had like 2 bites of it and didn't want to eat it anymore so I thought I would save it for later but ended up tossing it in the trash. I was so disappointed. I was used to a certain caliber. They don't put guacamole in it and it seems to be lacking something else that I can't put my finger to it. I give 2 stars for their salsa though. They were good, both red and green. Mediocre at best, purchased a supreme burrito at a whopping $10 (no side or drink) it was small for the price and very little flavor. The meat and other fillings where so bland. It was loaded with soggy cold lettuce that did not contrast well. You've heard the term "Gringo Mexican food" well this is it. French fry order was under cooked and I had to ask twice for ketchup, ranch & and chili and only received ranch and ketchup. What a great Family Restaurant! The inside is impeccably clean, the benches look freshly redone, the ceiling tiles and lights are all new, and the tables have all been recently varnished. There are even children's drawings and a lucky horseshoe hanging between the windows. It's quiet, comfortable, and local. This place is a real diamond in the rough, I think, and a short drive from the beach, so I didn't have to air up the tires. I got the carne asada fajitas. Fresh steak and veg., with No shortage of caramelized onions. The price is just right. I can't wait to come back. If they had WiFi, I could definitely see myself bringing my laptop and working for while, it's so comfortable here. read more

Ordered two carne asada burritos and two chicken burritos. All of them were filled mainly with rice and beans with tiny amounts of carne asada and chicken mixed in. Poorest excuse for a carne asada burrito I've ever had. 50 for four burritos and the unfriendly woman running the store gave us a foul expression when we asked for more hot sauce when she only gave us two. It was just ok - overpriced for sure. We ordered a variety of different appetizers and shared it all, honestly - our bill came to almost $60 - so really not impressed. I've seen that a lot of people really enjoy their breakfast burritos - so I'll consider coming back and trying that - especially because they have a drive-thru! That is pretty cool if you're in a hurry. I did enjoy the Fried Tilapia - and really liked their version of Tarter Sauce, I could eat a plate of that all day long. Nachos? Nothing special - not impressive. Calamari? Not good at all - total rubber bands! Pricing is too expensive. I will say - that I'm open to coming back through the drive--thru and trying either a breakfast burrito - or a regular lunch/dinner burrito... when I do, I'll come back and update my review. Also, the guy who was cooking the food was Very Friendly and Service oriented, however the guy working the counter was Not to Friendly and acted as if he was doing us a favor. Yuck. Like others who were reviewing the late, lamented Costa Azul, I came here thinking this was that well-reviewed place. Like one of those reviewers, I got the feeling I was eating a frozen dinner. It was hard to believe that Mexicans were even making the food. Its like what Mexican food might be like made by people in Minnesota. Maybe the cook used to work for an elementary school? Open a can of beans. Add water to make runny. Cook some minute rice. Then roll some cut up cooked chicken into a tortilla. Open a jar of enchillada sauce and pour over. Garnish w/ pre-shredded monterey jack and serve. Hey! I could cook here! I just read Joe's amusing review of Taco de Mexico, which is where the Costa Azul cook ended up. I haven't eaten there yet but I'm looking forward to giving it a try. read more

This review is basically solely based on their breakfast burritos. They're so good. The chorizo with rice and beans is amazing. Super filling, lots of flavor. Def in my Top 5 for breakfast. They can be a little "slow" at times -- it's because it seems to be family run with 2 employees. And that's okay. I'm okay with waiting 10 minutes instead of 5 minutes if the food is good, and the food is great. read more

Amazing Tortas, best in town. They food is always great here and the service is good, friendly people who feel a bit like family. Sometimes it take a little bit longer than I'd like to get my order but it's a mom and pop type restaurant and the food is definitely worth the wait. read more

We drive by this place pretty often; the outside isn't really anything that draws you in. That said, we both thought our lunch was really good. I had a tostada camaron which was mounded with mid-size shrimp. The shrimp wasn't too fishy; it had a nice, very light flavoring and as I recall it either $5 or $6, which seemed a very decent price for the volume of seafood. My husband had fish tacos; he thought they were really good, as well. I think he ordered a la carte for just a few dollars. We also liked the salsa, which surprised me. I like salsa that's probably more Americanized: chunky, not too spicey. This was more liquid-y with an edge to it, but it wasn't so edgy that it put me off. The people were nice and the place, while not updated, was spotless. It's obviously not a 5-star restaurant, but it gets good ratings from me for what it is - lunch or a casual dinner. read more
