We took my sister in law visiting from Arizona for dinner. It was the first time we had been there ourselves. The chips are the best, fresh, hot and tasty. My sister in law had the Tommy's Margarita and the cheese enchiladas, she said the best she has ever had! Better than her favorite Mexican restaurant in Arizona. We're from out of town and decided to stop at La Casita to have a cocktail. The bar is located at the back of the restaurant, and we were able to sit at the bar. The bartender was friendly and he made great cocktail suggestions. We ordered the Tommy and the Mazapan, both delicious. The cocktail waitress provided chips and salsa to snack on. We didn't eat dinner, yet when we were leaving, the staff were having dinner which looked very tasty. The bar area has a large screen TV, and we were able to watch the L.A. Angels vs. Giants game. Then we sat at the bar and the bartender told us about all the amazing tequila they have. He made us a few drink that were amazing!! My buddy got the coconut margarita and I got the old fashioned... which had a fricken cricket on the ice cube. At first I was like WTF but I ate the cricket and it was cool, spicy and fun! Yum! Thank you social media for alerting us to this deliciousness. The restaurant is tucked away in a strip mall along Grand, so you have to know where to look. So glad we did. It's been a long time since we've eaten Mexican food that had all of the flavors. The shrimp a la Diabla was spicy and rich. The chili relleno was stuffed with cheese and cooked to perfection. FOOD: I wanted to try their tacos and see what types of tacos they make but couldn't find it in the menu? Except for beef tacos that's included in the combination dinner. I looked it up online and it was there but might have been they only serve it in specific hours kind of weird but ok lol. I ended up ordering chicken mole because I've been craving and want to find spots who serve mole in the area. The food came in HOT HOT which is a good sign. The rice was not bad, had flavor and was soft. Beans were beans lol. The sauce of the mole was good. The chicken was not so good. It had parts that were tough and might have been over cooked that it was almost chewy? The complimentary chips and salsa was pretty good just the chips were a little bit greasy but nothing major. SERVICE: The service was the winner here. The lady who was also the owner was super nice, welcoming and attentive. She kept coming back to check on me and even gave me a free piece of a cheesecake. Every worker had a smile and greeted me. No complaints here. AMBIANCE: I was the only customer there at the time so it was fairly quiet but maybe during dinner rush it can get loud. It had music and TV going on at the same time. They are located next to a building that does music/dance class so from time to time you can probably hear other music and stomps lol but it was not distracting or annoying whatsoever. The area was clean and the high ceilings were nice. The decorations were wonderful. Plenty enough of tables and booths to accommodate family, couples or group of friends. Also, plenty of parking in front of the building. Overall, I think I would like to give this place another try. This visit might not have been impressive but I love mole and if this is the only place to get one in the area then I'll be back, although that price point of $21 for 3 small pieces of chicken in mole sauce is definitely over priced. The food offerings on the menu are definitely on the higher priced tier which may steer a lot of people away. I don't blame you. The quality for what I have had so far was mid for that type of pricing. I have yet to try their drinks maybe in that aspect they'll be worth the price. Don't try to blame this on Trump, they don't hire illegals at this restaurant. We left and decided to try La Casita instead. What a pleasant surprise!! Service was very good and the food was excellent!! I noticed some bad reviews on Yelp and wonder if there are days that the opposite is true. Maybe Saturday is the best day to go here? Would give negative star if possible. Placed pickup order showed up to pickup. Told it would be another 10 mins they got busy. No worries it happens. Went out to my car in front and waited another 15 mins before going back in. Sat there being avoided for a few before I finally asked the guy who originally helped me how the order was coming. I was then told someone else picked up my order repeatedly for 5 mins as miraculously it appeared. Basically they had no idea what was going on. I am going to say you need to ignore the negative reviews of this place. I used to only go here for occasional lunch takeout and never had bad food. But then I discovered they have an amazing bar with a selection of top tequilas and mescals. The bartender, Gabriel, is extremely knowledgeable and if you can spend a few bucks I recommend doing a tasting. You will not find these brands at Von's or even the fancy case at California Fresh. We had to ask for drinks, the server never inquired, chips & salsa were delivered, but rather than check on us, he walked out to his Honda and sat in the back cargo area (why??). My family and I were in town for a wedding and we wanted some good Mexican food, and came upon this place. They had some great employees and we had so much fun with karaoke. The drinks were making us feel really nice and the food was delicious! We had so much fun and were so glad we tried this place! If we lived in town it would be a regular for us, but for the couple days we were here, this was so much fun. We went there to eat dinner after visiting in pismo beach , we had 8 total and we asked if you can accommodate us and she said yes rudely right from the start. So we waited until she came outside and said it would take her 15 mins to clean it but she said it very rude and rolled her eyes at us so it made us feel uncomfortable , we left to find another restaurant. Very good restaurant, we picked this because it was close to another restaurant we had planned to go to but their line was out the door. Glad it was, the food at La Casita is very good!!! I had a taco and enchilada with rice and beans, my husband had the chili relleno. All were excellent Including the rice and beans though the beans were fairly thin/runny. The one thing they could fix is the spotlight in the dining room, looks like a flood emergency light taking the place of nice hanging lights, irritating if your seated looking in that direction.
