This is my second time going to el taco shop. The place is very inviting with indoor and some outdoor seating. Super casual. The staff are very sweet and helpful. I've had the burrito gandalla both times with al pastor as my meat of choice. The pastor is very well seasoned, and the burrito as a whole is one of the best I've ever had. Very large portion that lasts me two meals! Flavor is great with the avocado sauce which is why I opt for the gandalla instead of the normal burrito. I've also tasted their Jamaica agua Fresca which was very good. Finally, their salsa and topping bar is great and has all of the things you'd ever want. read more

Where to begin?? This Taco Shop is AMAZING!! The service was excellent and prompt. Be sure to begin with the chips and salsa. For $1.25 you get about a pint of delicious salsa and enough crispy chips for 4 people. We had to try the tamale and it was very good, but I couldn't focus on it since everything else we got was so delicious. My mate and I both got a veggie burrito. It's not on the menu but all we had to do was ask and they made it for us. It was so stuffed with onions, bell peppers, rice and beans that the tortilla would barely close. I could only eat half of it - it was so big! And, there was a large side of beans & rice that was a Mexican delight! Most places will have one or two items that are really good and other items are just so so. Not here - everything we ate was the best. We were passing thru Montgomery and stopped here because of the great Yelp reviews. We are Mexican food snobs and I can unequivocally say that this is the best Mexican food we've had east of the Rockies. I had to package up the leftovers because I couldn't leave a single bite. Do yourself a favor and give this place a try. I've attached several photos. They do have a nice soda bar with those delicious Mexican sodas along with the traditional coke products. Great Mexican food at a decent price!! Loved there open bar type system where you can get all the fixin's for your tacos. I always want more cilantro and onions so this was something unique I've never seen before and really loved. They also have quite a few salsas to try.. very tasty! The restaurant is pretty open and not too crammed, with a bar in the back corner for anyone that wants to sit and enjoy a few drinks. They have quite a few TVs as well. While the staff were extremely nice and the restaurant itself is well maintained, the food was terrible. We come from California where birria tacos are everywhere. The birria tacos here were sad little discs with soft 'boiled' meat, and the birria itself was watery/oily with no real flavor. It's supposed to be like a connsomme. The Asada fries I ordered (asked for extra crispy fries) were soggy, but worse the cheese had congealed into one big mess immediately. The asada was again flavorless and soft. Even the pickled carrots were bland and not pickled. The only thing we ordered that was edible was the elote, but I can't justify spending $45 to only end up really eating on piece of corn. I don't understand the reviews here, because if this place is good, how bad do the other taco joints here have to be? read more

I don't know if I caught it at the wrong time or what but it was ok at best in my book. I picked it up to go so no experience in the restaurant itself. I got the steak burrito which was exactly only that, a tortilla with some strips of steak wrapped up- no cheese, no tomato, no lettuce, nothing... just steak. It was pretty small too. I also got the street corn which was pretty good but had more lime than it should have, that's about all I tasted was lime. Overall I'll give it another shot later but my initial visit wasn't up to par with the reviews I've seen read more

Best Mexican food I've had in years! the chorizo cheese dip is amazing, as is the pollo burrito. Haven't dived into the rest of my order--saving it for to.orrow--but this place is fantastic. I am a cilantro hater, and I messaged them to see whether I could enjoy their menu. They said they were able to easily leave cilantro out of almost everything on their menu, and that proved true. Very easy to make that request on their online ordering system, and my food is perfect. Curbside pickup was a breeze. definitely worth the drive from across town for me. Will be back! read more

Good afternoon my fellow Yelpers, I know it's been a while since I've reviewed a restaurant and all. But last night I finally was able to go to this new taco shop and I found my new go to Mexican spot. I kept hearing about this restaurant from friends and I had been waiting on it to open. I went in last night and it was a nice spot, and the menu was a nice size. I ended up getting a steak and carnitas corn tacos. I must say they were great. Cooked to perfection. I enjoyed the fact that they let you put your own toppings on your meal, which was a great idea. I also grabbed a Mango jarritos drink and that was my first one ever. I really enjoyed it and will definitely grab another. To be honest I will be back tonight to try something else on their menu, hopefully. read more

Very authentic Tex Mex - had 3 tacos - Azada, Al Pastor and Carnitas. All were good but carnitas was the best. So flavorful. They have a great condiment bar to load up your tacos. Coming in from Cali, I didn't think I'd find decent Mexican food. Decided to try El Taco Shop based off of reviews and OMG!!! The BEST Mexican food I've had in a LONG time! The Tik Tok (#7 Birria tacos) were amazing. My daughters had the quesadillas and chicken fries, and all I can say is our table was silent except for sounds of our forks scraping plates as we all devoured this delicious food. Ok a couple things: not authentic at all, they got birria ramen on their menu. It's pretty good, but pricey, and you order and pay before you sit down and get your food which is always a turnoff because they can give you a pile of you know what and you wouldn't be able to reflect that in your tip. Came here one weekday for dinner. They weren't too busy and the service was pretty swift. They operate in a fast casual system. I remember seeing beer as an option but do not believe they have margaritas (insert disappointed sigh). We got an insane amount of food for a very reasonable price. We definitely didn't need the guac, but we got it anyways. The guac was good, but wasn't anything too special in my opinion. My friend had steak nachos and was disappointed because they were just very basic with steak and queso. I had the Burrito Gandalla with chorizo. I love chorizo and understand the greasiness of it but it was excessively greasy in my opinion. I felt like I was close to having a heart attack. The chorizo overpowered everything else in the burrito as well so it was very one note. Overall not a bad meal but could use much improvement. read more

My very first time here was on 12/19/2021. Prices are very reasonable, but the food is subpar. The birria tacos weren't dipped into the stew and grilled, the birria stew lacked flavor and was very watery, the rice was sticky and stiff, the pollo loco was ok, but the elotes were great. I moved here from California and have been so disappointed in other Mexican restaurants in the area because they use cheap ingredients and often resemble Tex-Mex style. El Taco Shop is the real deal, and is the most authentic I have found in the area. My favorites here are the Burrito Gandalla and street tacos. The best part is the salsa bar. All of their sauces are made in-house and are super flavorful. If you are extra hungry, try the elote. It's delicious.
