Coming from SoCal, I didn't have high expectations. Given this is the only Mexican restaurant I dined at in Alabama, I would say it's yummy and for the right price. I ordered an elote bowl, all the tacos, guacamole, a margarita, horchata, piña, and a sope. Their salsa bar and accoutrements were awesome and self serve. So glad their aguq frescas were homemade and not a mix. The margarita was decent. The carne asada taco was too dry. The lengua and camaron, and chorizo were the best out of the taco meats I tried. (Which was at least 7). The guac wasn't good, the avocados weren't fresh IMO. The sope was delicious. I came here twice and wish I ordered the sope both times. Came to this place on a whim based off the yelp reviews and honestly it was so worth it! The food was authentic, hot, fresh, and most importantly delicious. The margarita was also exceptional, I ended up ordering a spicy one and it definitely hit the spot. The staff were incredibly friendly and even brought a water bowl out for our dogs. The service was pretty good, no complaints there, they were friendly helpful and removed the dishes quickly after we finished eating. I was in San Diego a few years back, staying with my brother while he was stationed there and this food is just as good as the stuff I'd get right on the border. Definitely a go-to for good Mexican food! That's my headliner. Now for the detail: Food: pretty good! I am a Mexican food fan to the core and I was very pleased with my food. Flautas were delish, tacos were surprisingly flavorful even though they were bare, and the guac was tasty. I will say that the salsa was less than pleasing though. They didn't have bursting flavor or anything. Also, the hot salsa was actually mild. No bueno! Atmosphere: being that I came during COVID, it was very well organized and clean. They set up tables with signs that designated where to pick up your food. I obviously couldn't dine in, so I rated the pickup was 5 out of 5. They said 20 minutes and it was ready. I asked for salsa and they gave me three options of them. Nothing was missing and everything was packaged very neatly. Customer service: the ladies that helped us were more than helpful. They showed us where our food was when I picked up only half of my order. They wore masks and tried to keep their distance from the customers. Where to begin?? This Taco Shop is AMAZING!! The service was excellent and prompt. Be sure to begin with the chips and salsa. For $1.25 you get about a pint of delicious salsa and enough crispy chips for 4 people. We had to try the tamale and it was very good, but I couldn't focus on it since everything else we got was so delicious. My mate and I both got a veggie burrito. It's not on the menu but all we had to do was ask and they made it for us. It was so stuffed with onions, bell peppers, rice and beans that the tortilla would barely close. I could only eat half of it - it was so big! And, there was a large side of beans & rice that was a Mexican delight! Most places will have one or two items that are really good and other items are just so so. Not here - everything we ate was the best. We were passing thru Montgomery and stopped here because of the great Yelp reviews. We are Mexican food snobs and I can unequivocally say that this is the best Mexican food we've had east of the Rockies. I had to package up the leftovers because I couldn't leave a single bite.
