Taco dive right near U.C. 1 star off because the chips have fluorescent green and red coloring. It's close to my home, so I've been there several times...but, I would drive a distance to eat here. The food is so good and the prices are too. Lots of food for the price, as well. The contents were good, the cheese sauce was unlike any I've ever encountered in a restaurant - it may be a Velveeta based cheese sauce?? It was ok, but not worth writing home about. The rice was on par with any other restaurants. The guacamole, lettuce and tomatoes were fresh. Their salsa is good, but didn't have any defining flavor characteristics. We shared the Xango for dessert - cheesecake wrapped in a tortilla, deep fried and rolled in cinnamon sugar. It was probably the best part of the meal. Before I had even finished my margarita my food was packaged and ready to go!! I ordered a chili relleno, bean burrito as well as a chicken chimichanga and three different kinds of tacos. So I've never had a bad taco in my life. Everything has ranged from decent to amazing and based on my experience last night I'd say these fall into the decent category. I can't talk about the restaurant itself, because I've never dined in and have only ordered takeout. Last night my boyfriend and I ordered, shrimp, steak, barbacoa and carnitas tacos as well as an al pastor burrito. The tacos are served traditional style with onions, cilantro and they throw in some radishes as garnish on top as well. The burrito was jam packed with meat, sauce, rice and black beans. It was a good size for the price, whereas the tacos were a little skimpy (they didn't pack it fully with meat). Overall our favorite item was the shrimp taco, the shrimp were well cooked and had great flavor! I'd definitely go back for these. The carnitas, barbacoa and steak were all extremely dry and lacked flavor. I had to add my own sauce to make them a bit more enjoyable to eat. I'd rate the carnitas and barbacoa 3/5 and the steak 2.5/5. The burrito was solid and decent, it was well packed, the al pastor was somewhat tender and it was moderately flavored. I'd order this again and rate it a 3.5/5z Overall, I'd go back for the shrimp tacos and al pastor burrito. Their food is decent and prices aren't too bad. Clifton had one good taco joint (Habañero) and one bad taco joint (Cactus Pear). Sadly, El Taco Veloz joins the latter. For a $25 meal for two, the tacos were dry and tasteless until swimming in Tapatío. The rice was so dry that it was crunchy on the ends. When I first looked at the menu, I thought, "damn, this place must be authentic, they serve lengua (tongue)!" Unfortunately, it's really just a gimmick: the tacos were so over cooked that my dining mate couldn't tell the difference between the milanesa and lengua - which is, well, objectively really a bad sign. The meal was certainly edible, but the pricing is astronomically out of scale to the quality. Another point is that the service was not "veloz" -- it took about 45 minutes from entering to finishing the meal. Not ideal for a quick lunch or break. read more

Just ok. Happy hour is 4-7 on weekdays so decided to try their margarita on the rocks for $4. Priced accordingly. Their chips with their chips and salsa were sub average. Chips had no good crunch or flavor to them. The shrimp taco salad was very average. Portion was smaller than expected for $12. My husband had the steak fajitas which were average. This spot is located really close to UC and adjacent to the Hampton Inn. The parking is paid, but the restaurant told me to push "5" then "2" and you get a free hour. The service was that good and helpful throughout. On a Saturday afternoon it was less than crowded so no wait which was a plus. We were quickly served chips and salsa which were very good. I did not partake in the house margaritas, but my husband had one and said it was just okay. However it was only $2.99 so I think it's worth a try. Overall my food (chicken salad bowl) was just okay. The chicken lacked flavor and the lettuce was wet. My husband had the Tropicana fajitas and I definitely had food envy because they looked delicious. I got a side of corn and that is a must have, perfectly roasted. I'd like to try something like a burrito or flautas before I write this place off to just a quick happy hour stop, but my first visit was just okay. read more
