I like to go to places that the community recognized as authentic. This is one of those places. First of all it's a drive thru with inside ordering. Not sure if there is indoor seating. I ordered the super nachos , with everything on it. I didn't expect sliced onions, sliced tomatoes and sliced avocados. That was different. The nachos were fresh out the fryer. I enjoyed the experience. My palette has been spoiled, halfway thru I was satisfied. I also ordered the jamaica drink, which is a hibiscus drink. Also different for me, because I'm used to Jamaican sorrel, that has ginger. While their Jamaica drink is refreshing it wasn't what I was expecting. Also brush up on your Español. Horrible service. I get there at 11:50pm behind a few cars. The lady taking orders outside walks to my car at 11:54pm and says "we're closed." If you're not prepared to do service 15-30 minutes after your close times then change your close time to 11pm. Everyone already knows about this place, but it's legit as legit can get. All hours of the day and night, serving up authentic taco goodness. I usually end up coming by late at night and getting two chicken tacos. The sauces that come with them are so tasty and add to the flavor. It's a drive-thru which is convenient when you don't feel like getting out of the car at night. It's totally no frills here so just order your food and go (or sit out front, I think there are tables?). I'd skip the rice, it's usually not worth it. read more

I have to show love to El Taco Veloz. I only started going to this original location last month, but I've been here several times already. They are that good! I've tried the chicken, barbacoa, and pork tacos - all of which the meats seem to be marinated and seasoned perfectly, cooked to perfection every time. No stringy fat or gristle in the barbacoa like I experienced from the Chamblee Dunwoody location before. All of the meats here are tender and lean from what I've experienced so far. If there is any fat in the tacos here, it is cooked like it should be, so it melts like butter! And they are not skimpy like some establishments - they pack the tacos full! I can get tacos at 9 AM here for breakfast, and the lines move faster than any other fast food in the area, I can promise you that! I've never stepped inside the little shack yet but haven't needed to with the convenient drive thru. They will answer in Spanish first, but they speak English here also without any barriers. As someone who can understand some level of Spanish but cannot converse back fluently or smoothly as well, this is always a benefit. The rice and beans are also a great side here. They come together in a cup, and if they are canned, you can't readily tell like some places. The rice and beans with cheese taste fresh and are moist and flavorful, not dried out. This location has provided excellent, fast drive-thru service and consistently tasty and affordable food. I'm not sure if they do birria quesa tacos here, so I might have to keep going to El Indio for those, but for all my other taco cravings I'll keep coming back here for awhile. read more

The steak burrito was always my go to with the green jalapeño sauce. The atmosphere is pretty friendly as well. Keep in mind. This is not a big facility. Some (Mexican) friends of the family that wanted to do something cool as a thank you for my mom we're working on a room project in our house and brought a late lunch of tacos from ETV. FYI- they said, "These are the best tacos in Atlanta." The meat was juicy and flavorful. The corn tortillas were wet and soggy from the juices. Not a bad thing though- cause I don't like corn tortillas. They had cilantro and onions (not much, but they were there for the flavor), and they came with red chili [more hot] sauce and green chili [more spicy] sauce. The red sauce gave a more complex flavor palette while the green sauce gave a nice fresh air of tomatillos. I liked them both, but if I had to choose... I'd go with the green. The tacos were delicious and the fact that they get a sign-off from actual Mexicans is a huge win imo. I'll definitely be checking them out to taste their other offerings. All of those times over the years that I've driven by this El Taco Veloz but had no clue it was even there! I finally found it today at lunch time, and was happy about it! This location has a drive thru window, is old and small, has a covered outdoor patio, no indoor seating, and very limited parking spaces in its free lot. The employees provide very fast service. The overwhelming number of customers use the drive thru just because the service IS fast. Just be aware that the menu is not as varied as the other El Taco Veloz locations. My favorite item on the menu (at other locations) are the flautas, but, when I asked about ordering flautas after not seeing them on the menu, the voice in the speaker told me that they don't make them at this location. Instead, I went with my fall back choice - a regular carnitas burrito with cilantro, onions and a little cup of the spicy green sauce. No one was behind me in the drive thru line, and I had to wait for maybe 2 minutes for my burrito and green sauce. While I waited, I had a chance to see just how small this location is. There is a walk up window inside where employees take customers' orders, and the area for customers to stand and wait for their orders is small. Customers can then eat their food in the fenced, covered patio. Today, I chose to make a u-turn after getting my food, and parked in one of El Taco Veloz's spaces. The burrito was nice sized, in spite of not having rice or beans or other burrito fillers. The carnitas burrito was good. I just wish that the carnitas was more flavorful. Don't get me wrong; the meat had flavor, but I'm used to tasting a stronger flavor when it comes to carnitas. The green sauce kicked up the spiciness a couple of notches, and I loved it. One suggestion to make your drive thru experience more enjoyable: Don't enter the drive thru from Buford Highway; instead, enter the drive thru line from Shallowford Road, and then leave via Buford Highway after getting your order. read more

Best barbacoa taco I've had so far! Milanesa Torta is also a great choice if you're feeling a sandwich! Huge piece of meat, perfect crisp, fresh, very filling. $13 for one milanesa torta and two barbacoa tacos. Great price if you ask me. The food was fresh and tasty. I will definitely be back soon. Drive thru authentic food?! Yes please! I saw this place on Yelp previously and decided to try them out since I was in the area and was a little short on time. It's a small building with inside seating and because of the cold weather they do have tarp up. You drive to the side of the building where the menu is located. Unfortunately there aren't many vegetarian options. I settled on the burrito especial with no meat which was $6.21. I drove to the window got my food within a couple minutes. Once I got home I ate my burrito and it was pretty good. They also gave me a green salsa which was slightly spicy. I will definitely be coming back to try some of their other options. read more

This is a super causal place: walk inside and order. It's sort of like a small booth/shack place with some seating space under the covered patio. There's also a drive thru too. The tacos were reasonably priced and pretty hearty with its meat. The significant other and I shared the beef tongue and charbroiled steak. [We had a slight hunger for a snack and wanted to get rid of this bookmarked place.] The beef tongue was more flavorful as it had more fat. It was smothered in a green sauce that def made it more messy to eat. It was good nonetheless. The steak was equally tasty though, don't get me wrong. Both tacos were $2.25 for one of those double-wrapped, small tortillas. The tacos were quick, cheap, and tasty. End of story. read more

Tacos! It's a hidden gem to me. Really small place with a few benches outside. And a few side parallel parking or in the back. There's a drive through option too. Really great prices around $2.50-4 per taco. They did have other options besides tacos like quesadillas or sandwiches. Was able to try barbacoa, pastor and carne asada! 3 tacos less than $11 dollars. A friend that I went got the mango juice that they had and it had a great homemade feeling to it. There were two sauces a orange/red and a green one! The green one was a limey sweet one and the orange/red was just a spicy sauce. I combined both the sauces on both tacos and it just tasted amazing. This place is a staple for us, highly recommend trying this for breakfast! We will regularly get their breakfast burritos and bring them back to the house to feed the family or grab them on a way to meet folks at the park. Every time we take them to new people they are blown away. For the burritos you can get a variety of meats, then I'd suggest getting them with the rice, beans, online, cilantro, and green sauce. Might seem a little heavy/ different for breakfast, but it is worth it! The real star of the show with this one is the tortilla, nice and fresh and griddled to perfection. Have been here for lunch and dinner as well, great spot for those, but breakfast for the win. One word of caution the ordering can be a bit tricky with a little bit of a language barrier, but they are all very friendly. Just make sure to be clear on what you want to each and repeat it if needed (have ended up with fewer burritos than expected or different toppings), but after learning that lesson has been spot on. read more

This little "hole in the wall" is an absolute gem! The food was good, reasonably priced and the service was fast. If you aren't looking for it, you will pass right by it because it is so small. Apparently size doesn't matter because the drive through had cars all the way back to the street! Not because they are slow but because their food is THAT good! The chicken taco had a little heat with every bite. I was expecting the same thing with the Lengua taco but that wasn't the case but they did provide a VERY spicy green salsa that made up for the missing spicy goodness that the chicken taco had. Every third Saturday evening or so, I drive across town in traffic (which has lessened during the pandemic, but is still clogging the ill-designed downtown interchange), to wait in El Taco Veloz's drive-thru line. Around 7 or 8 pm, there are usually about five cars lined up and El Taco Veloz is quick and efficient with a person coming outside to take orders. The reason I drive across town is that this is the finest taqueria in the Atlanta area and I am an Angeleno and so have been addicted to that sort of grub since I ate every day at a taco truck for lunch in 8th grade. I am partial to the vegetarian burrito, which is not on the menu. But it is the green hot sauce that slays all comers. read more

Decent, cheap tacos for a low price through a late night drive thru. There's several reasons this spot is A-OK. It's cheap. It's tacos. And it's open late! The drive thru option is also a nice bonus. I have tried the steak, al pastor, and beef tongue tacos. I did NOT like how crumbled and soggy the tortilla tacos got. We ate them immediately and it just didn't hold up well. The meat itself wasn't too bad. The steak was seasoned well, but dry. Al pastor was a bit under seasoned. My favorite was the beef tongue which was soft, tender, and well seasoned. Today, I ordered two breakfast burritos, neither which was remarkable. My issues with them: 1. Pro tip: Do NOT order online through their website. I ordered through their website and paid the idiotic $2.50 "convenience fee." But they don't even prepare your food til you get there and you still have to go through the same drive-thru as everyone else, so there is no "convenience" and you really save no time. 2. I just moved back from Southern California, which is obviously much closer to Mexico and does breakfast burritos far better than Taco Veloz. What's missing in this chain's breakfast burritos is hashbrowns, which is just absolutely obligatory for taste. As is, Veloz's burritos only have egg, meat, rice and beans, which, really, is just a regular burrito with eggs. Very boring and not worth ordering. 3. I ordered the breakfast burrito with "beef and pork sausage," which I THOUGHT would be pork links, but nope, it was hot dog. Ridiculous, cheap ingredients and not any good. A very underwhelming food experience here that I don't recommend. Instead, I recommend Las Tortas Locas, whose food is way better and much better priced. read more

Authentic and inexpensive tacos made fast pretty much describes El Taco Veloz. This shack on Buford Highway is the original location. It's primarily a drive-thru, though there is very limited bar-style seating inside and four tables outside that can seat about six people each. The patio is surrounded by curtains which the staff rolls up when the weather is nice. They also have a heat lamp ready when the weather gets cold. I've only tried the tacos at this location, but have tried some of the other foods (e.g. tortas, churros, queso dip) at the other locations. The taste and quality is consistent across the stores I've been to, though I'm partial to this store on Buford Highway and the one just a bit north on Chamblee Dunwoody. El Taco Veloz serves all sorts of Mexican foods including burritos, quesadillas, and a variety of plates. You can transform your tacos into combos with rice and beans. My favorite tacos to order are the asada (carne asada steak), barbacoa (shredded beef), and the al pastor pork (grilled seasoned pork). The tacos are under $2.00 each. You have the option to get chopped onions and cilantro on them, which I always do. They also have green salsa you can ask for. It comes in a yellow mustard bottle. The tacos are small, wrapped in two warm soft flour tortillas and are packed with plenty of meat. The tacos have great flavor and the meats are usually juicy and savory. I also enjoy piling on the spicy sauces and salsa. About four tacos is enough to satisfy me for one meal. I'm also a sucker for their sweet horchata (Mexican cinnamon rice drink). El Taco Veloz does accept credit card and there is no minimum. Well, maybe there is a minimum, but it's less than $1.69 because I once ordered an extra pastor taco and charged it. I think it's funny that one of the girls here asks the customers if they want their order "to here" or "to go." If you prefer air-conditioned seating, consider going to the Chamblee Dunwoody location. read more

This place brings back memories from when I lived in Oakland, California! I use to go to Fruitvale (a city close by Oakland) to get tacos all the time from the trucks. El Taco Veloz is authentic. There's only so much you could do with tacos and these were delicious. With a friend, I ordered: - 2 Carne Asada Tacos (steak) - 2 Pollo Tacos (chicken) - Chips & Salsa We didn't care much to get rice or beans. It is a taco place after all, but we had to get chips and salsa to accompany the tacos. The tortillas and meats were soft to the taste. There's a green pepper sauce that complements the tacos well (definitely use that! it's in a yellow bottle). I love me some tacos and Veloz is about as authentic as you can get - we're talking meat, a bit of onion and cillantro and some heat wrapped in a corn tortilla. Right now they're doing some specials for $.99 - try the pollo for a little variety. Where they really excel, however, is in their carne asada - pay a little extra and get the buritto - it's almost all delectible lime-marinated beef! Get it with everything and then load up with their really spicy salse verde - it's awesome! Note that the food will be a bit greasy as it's cooked on a flat top griddle - but that's as it should be (no pansy white-boy food here). I only wish they served alcohol, but then again with a drive through you can sit in the car anywhere and enjoy a Tecate with your meal. And did I mention that's it's super cheap? read more
