I was worried we might not get a table quickly, but we arrived at the perfect time on a Saturday and were seated immediately. We ordered a couple drinks, perused the menu and ordered the ceviche and street tacos and chicken tacos and everything was fresh and delicious. Our server was helpful, Attentive without hovering. My friend visiting had nothing but great things to say. Look forward to going back for brunch. Which is my typical go to there.

During that time, it has easily become one of my favorite restaurants in all of Austin. I absolutely love the food and the rooftop patio that overlooks downtown/the park, and it will forever be somewhere I continue to go, especially during happy hour. I have tried every vegetarian item on their menu, and while everything is great, my personal favorites are: - cheese enchiladas with mole verde (I get this 99% of the time because they are my favorite enchilada in town) - the chile rellano (it's listed in the sides, but I promise you that it can be a meal in itself) - their rice (comes with many of their plates or inside of their enchiladas) is actually soooooo good and one of the things I look forward to - queso (nothing different about it, but it's just a really good standard queso) - flaquita (spicy watermelon margarita; I don't need to say more) - sangria blanca (super refreshing) Up until a few months ago, I would have given this place five stars, but I've noticed a decline in service that is making me knock it down to a four. For example, they used to give free chips and salsa the second you sat down, but the last three times, I've had to ask them for it (pro tip: ask for chips and salsa!!). I've also noticed slower and less attentive service. Overall, I still love El Alma, and when it comes to food and vibes, it has withstood the test of time. Everyone I introduce to El Alma falls in love (my sister visits me once a year, and El Alma is always on the agenda). Not only have I been coming here multiple times a year for the past five years, but I know I will be coming for as long as they are around.

They even walked us to our table and later showed me where the bathroom was, which I thought was a really nice touch. As for the food, it definitely lives up to the hype. It's on the pricier side, but everything tasted incredibly fresh and was well worth it. We ordered the enchiladas, which were delicious, and the shrimp was probably my favorite part of the meal because it was so fresh and perfectly cooked. I can definitely see why this restaurant has been around for so long and has such a loyal following. It took me way too long to finally come here, but I'll definitely be back. This place used to be my favorite al pastor in town and for my birthday this past March we had some friends over and my wife ordered 100 tacos. Nothing was labeled and tacos were crammed into boxes so to grab a taco you inevitably touched someone else's to find out what the hell kind of taco it was, just so dumb. They've also always been SO tight with their salsas but the last two times we went put us over the edge. We went thru the drive thru and ordered 6 tacos. She asked what kind of salsa we wanted so i prefaced with "Ok 6 tacos, six salsas, so we'd like three verde and three molcajete thanks!" - Drove up and we were charged for two extra salsas. I asked why and the guy said "it's one for two" I said does that mean if i order one taco you don't get a salsa? He replied no, if you order one taco you get one salsa if you order two tacos you get one salsa. I asked how does that make any sense? What if its six people going their separate ways and want their own salsa? I got a blank stare. I'm thinking this is a classic Larry David Curb Your Enthusiasm episode where he drives through the line 6 separate times in circles and orders one taco each time out of principle. On top of that we get home and WE ONLY HAVE 4 SALSAS FOR 6 TACOS OH THE HORROR. But seriously, charged extra and didn't even get what we paid for and the tacos are WAY smaller than they used to be. I wrote them privately and got no response so here is your public review El Tacorrido. You have lost our business over nickles and dimes and I will no longer recommend your fleecing ways. If I could put 0 stars I would! This place doesn't give a f** about people. They didn't care when my friend got sexually harassed and they didn't do anything! HR didn't do anything and they have been trying to get her to quit. These people the majority of them that work there are men and when this happened they treated her like the problem. Even HR a women is still treating her the same. All they care about is there business not their employees or people in general PERIOD! I hope this place gets shut down! read more

We tried a variety of tacos and the best ones they had on the menu were the potato and egg tacos, which we tried since breakfast was served all day. Also, my niece had to stop at the light on Lamar and vomit the carne asada tacos out in front of all of the cars waiting at the light by us. I tried to ask her what happened but she still doesn't have the words to explain what upset her stomach. I felt so sorry cause I picked the place. But If the carne asada had an old taste like my pastor, then say no more. My niece has a weaker constitution than me so it was destined to happen. Side note: There were no English speakers when we ordered, so if this is the usual, brush up on your Spanish before coming. No big deal. There just might be a language barrier. Plus points for giving us all of the limes, cilantro and onions to our hearts desire, but all of that still couldn't make up for the lower than expected quality of the tacos. Even the corn tortillas felt more like flour instead of corn, but we were assured they were corn. I won't be back, but maybe you can test your experience against mine and report back.

They're one of my favourite pollos asados al carbon in Austin (charcoal grilled chicken). We ordered the whole chicken meal to share with two people. They had a special going where the whole chicken meal was $10. The meal came with 6 white corn tortillas, two containers of a Jalapeño salsa (tastes like Doña from Taco Deli), charro beans, and rice. A whole chicken meal was enough food for the two of us with plenty of leftovers for the next day. The chicken was succulent, juicy, and flavourful. It was well seasoned and no part of it was dry. Make sure to squeeze the lime on it! The rice had good flavour and was moist. The real standout though were the charro beans. These are ABSOLUTELY NOT vegetarian. They're made with bacon and pieces of what looked like chicharron. There's a pleasant spicyness that comes the jalapeños that are stewed with the beans. I would go back for the charro beans alone. The restaurant is inside a convenience store and the staff are courteous. Our meal came out within about a minute of us ordering and paying.
