VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED in this place!!! My wife ordered Asada fries and when she got them the fries were saturated with grease and did not taste good. So we sent it back and they questioned us as what was wrong with it. We told them but apparently it wasn't a good enough excuse. The owner didn't want to take it off the bill and was gonna still charge half the price of the plate. We were not gonna pay for something that we didn't eat and was unconsumable (I wouldn't even feed this to my dog). The owner was gonna still try to charge our credit card, until my wife said do not charge our card, I have witnesses watching you. But the owner was still arguing until my daughter grabbed our credit card back. Then the owner decided to go ahead and take the plate off of the tab. Very sad, we thought highly of this place. Before our dinner arrived, we loved the thin tortilla chips which were served whole instead of wedges. Spicy salsa was just perfect. My dinner order of chili rellenos and green chili enchiladas with refried beans and Mexican rice was served on a large hot plate. The food was delicious and the portions filled the entire plate. I dined with 3 other people and they also enjoyed their meal. Service was great and friendly too. I definitely recommend this place to my friends and family to dine! read more

This was my first time visiting el tap in many years. We arrived with a party of 30+. The servers were very accommodating and easily broke up each order to make it extremely easy for us to place our individual orders. We were greeted with chips and salsa and our drinks arrived quickly. The salsa and chips (made in house) were perfect. Our food also arrived very quickly, with VERY large portions and everyone enjoyed the atmosphere. Servers showed up to check on us often and we were extremely satisfied with our dishes. Between 5 of us, we had tacos, enchiladas, chile rellano, tostada, and rice and beans. Everything was great, not to mention the chips and salsa. I lived and grew up in Porterville and have eaten at this restaurant several times with family and friends. and to be honest everything I have ever eaten I did not like, but the chips and salsa are legit! The first thing I noticed was the doors were wide open and flies were coming in like crazy. I had to go to the bathroom and when I got in there was no toilet seat covers and barely any soap to wash my hands, to be honest it was filthy. We were served chips and salsa which I have to say are the best anywhere I have ever been. They should pack and label that up. My decision on the food was based on fighting flies to gluey cheese that filled the burrito, right down to a very dry and boring torta. I was highly disappointed in the food. I guess when you think your food is good, you stop having pride in what you do, or keep doing it because no one has the guts to tell you otherwise. . We received a two Tortas and a bean and cheese burrito. The first torta I opened up and it had one little tomato on top that was the bottom of a tomato and a sliver of onion, with a very dried up meat, honestly you have to be an idiot to think that was ok! My burrito bean and cheese-had a gluey cheese that wouldn't separate it was clumped up with hardly no beans, I just couldn't eat it. My granddaughter torta was filled with huge chunks of meat, she couldn't even take a bite because the chunks were so huge, this is a sandwich by the way, no beans no vegetables just huge amounts of meat. Thank god she didn't choke on it. Well she didn't eat it and was unhappy! If a restaurant is going to charge these ridiculous prices at least know how to make the food you're selling ! When I tried to explain to the manager, she got really rude with me, and told me oh we're taking your money even if you unhappy. As a hole of a restaurant that's been around for years, at least take some constructive criticism and try to make your customers happy instead of attacking them. If you want a quality Mexican food save your money and go to a real Mexican restaurant, where they take pride in their food and ambience and treat customers with respect because this is the furthest from it! My family and friends agree this place needs to step it up! I will never go back because of how they treated me! read more

Tonight I had a cockroach run out from the chip basket, I had to kill it with a napkin. We brought it to the waitresses attention she took the cockroach came back and ran my card for the full price of the bill even though we hadn't finished our meal. The food is alright, i mostly go for the Mole. We went on Valentines Day so they jacked the prices up. We ordered the exact same meal, his came on a bigger plate with much more Mole than mine. They charged us extra because we asked for shredded instead of ground beef. They charged an extra $5 for my meal, even though we ordered the exact same thing. Alright food, alright service, it gets pretty loud and is busy most days. Seriously hate this place. I ordered a super deluxe burrito, right off the menu, no special instructions and my burrito was missing an item. They didn't offer to remake the burrito. Their only option to fix their mistake was to serve the missing item on the side. I guess I could have insisted they take it back and make the burrito right but I'm not too fond of the taste of spit. I would encourage anyone to eat at El Tapatio! Their food is so incredibly good and worth every cent. They have really good guacamole and salsa, that is freshly made every morning. If you're a coffee lover, they have really good coffee there as well! Their enchiladas are also to die for, I'm always hearing people say that it's they're favorite on the menu. I have been driving to El Tap from Visalia for quite a while. Their food is good, large portions , and really enjoyed the restaurant, until.... recently. drove over and order two cheese enchiladas, taco, rice and beans. The order came, two enchiladas, two piles of rice, and beans. Took it back to the register as our waitress was nowhere to be found, told them the problem. All in all it was corrected, the taco is served separately. They usually are spot on, maybe it was an off day. Give it a try. Ambiance is loud but no bad. read more

I am not sure what we got but it was strange: the chicken relleno should have had a breaded coating but this one looked more like an omelet with a whole Chile inside. The bean burritos were strange, too--two were small little "baby" sized and one was a monster. The rice was bland and so were the beans. They also gave us a bag filled with fired corn tortillas and a small soda cup filled with salsa. El Tap is my absolute favorite. I have been eating there for years, in my experience you either love it or hate it there is no in between. I love it so much I drive 53 miles 1 way just to have the shredded beef enchiladas. If you are person who likes sweet Mole this is the place for you if not I would not go there. I personally could drink a glass of their Mole, Absolutely the best Mexican food I have ever had. My go to is the dinner plate with chili relleno and an asada taco. I will usually eat the taco, fill up on the chips and salsa and take the chile relleno for lunch the next day! I came all the way from Oregon to visit family here in Pville. Everyone told me, "You must try El Tap, Emily." I said, "Fine, fine... any kind of Mexican food will be better than Portland's lame ass attempt at real Mexican grub." First of all, the chips here are huge and come with what could only be crack-laced salsa. One bite and you're hooked. By the time you realize you've eaten a whole basket of those giant chips and licked the salas bowl they refill you with more. It's like having your Drug Lord keeping you high until he can get you with a piping hot plate of tamal, rice and beans to really keep your ass loyal. Once you gotten over the weirdly sweet red sauce that covers your tamal entirely you realized that shit is actually laced with crack too. You want to hate it, but it's taste is so damn addicting. You realize you're in a Mexican Food drug den, begging for more of the supply. You've sold your soul to the greasy, cheesy Mexican Gods. Next thing you know you've ordered shots of Tequila and begin bathing in the gloriously fluffy rice with the sweet red sauce dripping down your chest on top of the table after grabbing a nearby sombrero while Cherry Pie plays in the background somewhere. You're just swinging your hair, covering everyone is the red sauce and they couldn't be more happy. Everyone is happy here. Everyone loves crack laced salsa. It's magical, beautiful and utter fucking nonsense. Suddenly, your forehead hits the table hard and you awake to see it's closing time. You realize you've actually eaten a full plate of food, 2 baskets of chips and salsa, consumed a gallon of sweet tea and passed out in a food coma. Time to do it all again tomorrow. read more
