I was visiting Kissimmee and I was hungry for something to eat. El Tanampa seemed like a good choice at the time. My first visit to this restaurant and I was happy with the way it looked. Lots of big tables and booths with tables that can move making it easy for big guys like me to fit. I actually ate there two nights in a row. My first visit I really enjoyed it however, it's my second visit that you left me very unhappy. I brought friends with me the second night and it was a completely different experience. The waitress was not very helpful. We ordered ribeye steaks with shrimp and she never bothered to ask us how we would like the steaks prepared like they did the previous night. She never came back to the table after she bought the food to see if we were ok or if we needed anything. In fact she never came back to even ask if we need refills on our soda or anything. It was a struggle just to get her attention. I asked several other waiters if they could please tell her to come over to the table and she would never come. When it was time for the check to be delivered, then she suddenly was available. Now the food was good. I can't knock the food. Even though she didn't ask us how we want our steaks prepared and even though she never came back again to see us during the meal , the food was actually very tasty. However, I personally will never go back to this restaurant. When I go out to eat, I want full service. I want an attentive hostess. I want a helpful server and I want good food. I'm a generous tipper 25-30%, but I expect good service and good food and if I don't get it, I won't return. read more

Late weekday lunch. Friendly prompt service by Alfonso. Refreshing Aguas Frescas de Limón. Huge tasty Chorizo Quesadilla with sides of refried beans and Guacamole included. My Molcajete for one person was delicious and huge; with shrimps, steak, chicken and chorizo with cheese and awesome Mexican veggies. Side of Guacamole, Refried beans, salad and Crema Mexican also included. Their salsas are perfect. We are coming back for Menudo and Pozole in the weekend. They also have breakfast starting 10am. We are from the west coast and finding good Mexican in Florida has become a chore. The chips were stale, the sauce tasted like ketchup, my wife's taco salad was very watery. I have to say the staff was very friendly and professional always bringing whatever we asked for. The atmosphere was very authentic with Mexican artwork on the walls. We found this place through Google and Yelp reviews. The inside is a bit small so we waited just a bit for a table, but once we sat down our service was quick. The chips, queso, and salsa are all standard. The birria tacos were not my favorite.. I would pass on those as they were a bit soggy and had double tortillas which I don't think is necessary. If you do get it though, you could split it with another person since it's a lot of food. If I came back, I would want to try other things on the menu to see if I liked another dish better! read more

Before I devoured my macrons from David Ramirez Chocolates down the street and had a craving for a warm, savory tamal. I found El Tenampa on Yelp. Couple of reviews mentioned tamales, so in I went. Greeted by a nice hostess and seated immediately. It is a big space, abundant seating, booths an tables. Enough that they can sit a big party with no problem. I was led to booth in the back. They noticed I was flushed, it was hot outside, they turned the fan towards me, to help. I was grateful. I was served chips and a fresh salsa. I asked for a tamal and was crest fallen when was told they no longer serve tamales. That the market next door does have them. But I was already seated, hot and hungry, so I stayed. I ordered a carne asada taco and a pineapple agua fresca. The food was good. The taco was good. The carne asada flavorful. The toppings of fresh, diced white onions, cilantro and the piquant green salsa. I love an agua fresca of any fruit, and this one was delicious and so refreshing. All in all: I really think this is a great place to come back to if you like a simpler flavor of Mexico. Nice furniture and artwork. No real bar. Beers are in bottles. The premade margarita mix is sitting on the bar that isn't being used as a bar...More storage area than it is a bar. Food items are all LARGE portions. I should have ordered 1 birria taco. They have double tortillas which i love, lots of meat. Haven't had tacos this size since I lived in a part of town (different state) affectionately dubbed lil' Mexico...I still crave those street tacos...anyway... The salsa verde is sweet. Red sauce is good. The tomato salsa is plain, the chips are overdone. But they are still ok. Photo is of 3 traditional birria tacos with limes, and asada burrito (out of lengua). I placed the fork for size. The asada burrito was good. Massive. Easily a second meal for most folks. Our entire check came to less than $25 with plenty left over. Very affordable for those on a budget. I wouldn't come back if I'm in the area...there are places that have bolder authentic seasoning. Food was just too plain for us. BUT, had similar in Mexico. This has to be the best Mexican food I've ever had. It was worth the drive from Ocoee. Hubby and I will definitely be back.

On my fathers special day Tuesday having lived 78 years on this everchanging world wanted to enjoy some great Mexican food. El Tenampa was the obvious choice having dined there for several years. Servers were great! How ever the food was not! My father ordered his favorite Caldo de Res and it definitely was not fresh very disappointing. The server apologized and offered the Caldo de Pollo. The Caldo tasted like boiled chicken water. Not eatable. The server did say the soups were made over the weekend and they were not fresh. Why stop there. My mother also ordered her favorite the Mojarra Frita. The Mojarra was not favorable and needed more of that El Tenampa SABOR that they are known for. The Mojarra Frita also disappointing. Not sure what happened. I will say the place has had a face lift and beautifully remodeled. Now they should focus on the El Tenampa SABOR they are known for. read more

Tenampa is a municipality located in the montane central zone in the State of Veracruz, which must mean OBT in Spanish since that's where it's located, so good name. We were in the area and craving Mexican food, and the pictures of this place made us choose it. We arrived late evening on a Saturday and were promptly seated. It wasn't empty, but not packed either. (Aji Ceviche a few doors down was packed with a line). It was tough to decide what to get. I finally decided on the Fiesta de Mariscos which was an assortment of seafood (mostly shrimp). It had so many options and let me try some of the different flavors they had. Ceviche, Shrimp Soup, Shrimp Cocktail, Garlic Shrimp, Spicy Shrimp, Fried Shrimp and fish all on one plate. Everything but the fish was amazing, the fish just didn't have much flavor on it. Others ordered the Chili Relleno which was massive, steak nachos which were covered in steak, and a birria taco which was also good with the cilantro and onions on it. Went here for the first time and honestly, it was a letdown. The food came out lukewarm and didn't have much flavor--definitely not what I expected given all the hype. What really threw me off was the automatic 20% tip added to the bill (it was over $100). I asked about it, and the server said it's just their policy. Came in for lunch there service was great!! We were attended by Juanjo, he was very good and helpful. We got a chimichanga with carnitas, a steak fajitas, and a giant seafood and meat platter. Was working on that side of town, and was really craving Mexican (not Tex-Mex). I opened up Yelp to search around me, and this popped up as one of the top spots within the immediate area. Yelp, as always, did not disappoint. The restaurant is tucked away in a strip mall off of the main road (south OBT near all of the car dealerships). It's actually next to Aji ceviche, which I've been, but never noticed this little gem next door. My visit was during lunch hours, so the foot traffic wasn't super heavy. I was quickly greeted by a server, seated, and served chips & salsa. The menu is quite extensive, and can be overwhelming if you're not familiar with this type of food. I went back and forth, but I ultimately got the steak fajitas. The food came out in a timely manner, was literally SIZZLING, and was very tasty. I often judge places on how good their refried beans are, and these were 10/10. Also, the guac was VERY tasty. Service was attentive, friendly, and when I (unfortunately) was struggling understanding the Spanish (I can usually pick up what's being said, but apparently not today), the server went and got someone to help. The interior decor is welcoming, comfortable, and well lit. I would also say that the price point is fair. The amount of food you get for the price would be hard to beat. My girlfriend and I came in around 6:30 for dinner. There was a good amount of people but there wasn't a wait and we were seated quickly. We ordered the molcajete for one and the fajitas mixtas for one, as well as an extra queso dip for the table. I'll first start with the appetizers. The chips and salsa came out quick, however the chips tasted stale and were very hard. It was like they were from last week. The salsa was good though. The queso dip was good as well, however it wasn't particularly hot, just warm. On to the main courses. Both the molcajete and the fajitas took a while to be served to us. Once it got to the table, they were again warm, not hot. Usually the molcajete is bubbling and the fajitas are sizzling on the plate, but not today. It was probably sitting at the pass for a while before the waitress served it to us. The flavors of both, however were quite good. They were very well seasoned. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because of the stale chips and the warm, not hot food. read more

The moment we walked in we were greeted and seated. They then brought out chips and salsa. The salad was amazing. I ordered the park tacos and they came out with little wedges of lime. It was spectacular. I also ordered a aqua Fresca pineapple it was so delicious. The restaurant has a really nice tequila bar and Columbian bodega next door. The food and service was great. Tried this restaurant for the first time this week and it did not disappoint. We ordered food to go and had a drink at the bar while we waited. The drinks were so cheap, and the margarita was strong! They gave us complimentary chips and salsa while we waited. I think the salsa was the best part of the whole meal, it was delicious. For dinner we got a variety of tacos and ceviche. Visiting Orlando from Chicago, originally,and sought out a good Mexican restaurant. I ran across El Tenampa and absolutely loved their food! I had the Bisteck a la Mexicana. It was so good we went back the next night, when I ordered the Rib Eye Ranchero, I need to take a months vacation next year to try the whole menu! We had the Beef Milanesa, the Mole Chicken Enchiladas, and two sopes - one with chorizo and one with Pastor - along with a side of roasted nopales (cactus paddles) and jalapeños. The margarita was large and, according to my wife who didn't let me try it, very good. They have Bohemia beer which I haven't seen in a long time and was still as good and refreshing as I remember. We were looking for some authentic Mexican food while vacationing in Orlando. One of my friends found El Tenampa was close by to where we were staying. It's located in a strip mall, but being that most restaurants in Orlando were, we decided to give it a shot. The ambience was a little bit of a downer; it's like sports bar meets Mexican restaurant. Although they had flat screens only the Dish logo was displayed without any programming. Maybe it was the low ceilings but the place felt kinda dingy. The menu is busy, but the server was great at giving more details and suggestions. I ordered the wet burrito (vegetarian style), so it was supposed to contain rice and beans. I opted out of the vegetables. When I received the order it was essentially a burrito filled with steamed vegetables. The server was good to replace it, since it didn't have the beans or rice inside. Even though they got it right the 2nd time I should've just kept the initial order. The vegetables looked fresh and had great color and variety. Unfortunately the rice and beans in the replacement order were dry and lacked freshness. The rice even included parts that were obviously stuck to pot at some point. The chips for table were dark brown; tasted like the oil needed to be changed and cooked less. The cheese dip was tasty and ample for a group of 4 people. We came here on a Saturday afternoon, ad it was the best decision EVER! Karen was our server, she was extremely polite, explained every dish we had a question! We ordered Tenampa Steak and Steak and Shrimp. On the Tenampa steak, it was a generous portion, it was juicy and the flavor on the meat was amazing! The steak and shrimp was 10 shrimps on the side of a really good size steak! It was flavorful as well. We also ordered margaritas, they were good too (my husband does not drink tequila, and he finished his first!!!) Queso fundido was good and the quality of the chips!!!!! Out of this world! I will definitely be recommending you to eat here, my fav food is Mexican food (allergic to spicy food) and this was the only place that was true to not spicy if not requested. Karen was really concerned as in the look out for my allergies! Desert (even when we couldn't do anything more.... We needed to try them!!!).
