I got home around 12:20 p.m., and we immediately hopped in her car to head to the event, which was advertised as running from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. We arrived around 12:50 p.m. only to be turned away because of the heat. We had just driven 30 minutes to get there, only to be dismissed because it was "too hot." Last week, in similar weather, the St. Louis truck had no issues operating and serving well over a hundred people during the food truck festival. I was almost in tears, and so was my mother. This was supposed to be a special treat for her. Personally, I feel like the heat was an excuse. My father owned and operated a food stand at the Missouri State Fair for years, smoking meat for over a week at a time and serving thousands of people. There was no food truck and no air conditioning. I am absolutely in favor of keeping people safe during extreme heat, but when you own and operate a food truck, hot weather is something you know you'll encounter. I also work a second job serving food and drinks out of a shed with nothing more than a fan for eight-hour shifts, and we don't close because of the heat.
