Unfortunately we had a less than desirable experience our first time trying the restaurant. The grilled chicken quesadilla tasted like the meat sat and dried out and there was barely any cheese. The waitress service was poor from the start. She acted like she had better things to do and didn't want to be bothered. When we asked what was on the quesadilla, to make sure it didn't have surprise refried beans, her response was, "it says on the menu" and pointed at the menu. The place doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's very nicely decorated inside. Cozy, a little dark. There was a television on behind the counter, which was very loud and distracting. The woman behind the counter was very friendly and polite. I wanted take out, and while I was able to get it, there was no take out menu. The regular menu was well presented, but had many misspelled words. The food was delicious. I had a steak and chicken burrito that was fresh and basic. The side of chips with cheese and re-fried beans was tasty. The green sauce that came with the burrito was very spicy, something I did not expect but enjoyed. I can't believe all of the good reviews this restaurant has. Absolutely terrible service, food was not anything special at all. Waitress does not LISTEN and is extremely rude. We wanted to go in loving this restaurant, hoping we'd found a little place to go out for dinner once in a while. The ghostland that it was on a friday night should have been a clue to turn around, and truly wish we had. Food wasn't terrible, but as someone who is Spanish I'd have to say the people calling this "The best authentic Mexican food" have never had real Mexican food to begin with. After moving back from Texas, my wife and I struggled to find a place for our Mexican fix till we found El Tequila. Yes, the place is small and the service can be slow but the food is legit. We recommend any of the enchilada dishes or the Pollo el Tequila which comes in a crème sauce. I keep saying I want to try one of their Tortas but I can never tear myself away from my favorites. And who needs booze when you can wash it all down with an ice cold Mexican Coke. ;-) read more

It's very hard to find authentic Mexican food close by and at a good price, but since just trying this restaurant about a month ago with my family we have been back about 4 times now eating inside and ordering to go. The prices are affordable and the portion sizes are large. Now for me being a vegetarian it can be very difficult going out to eat, however I ordered the tres amigos enchiladas and replace the chicken and beef with cheese. My bf also got the tres amigos and that originally comes with one beef, one chicken, and one cheese and a side of rice and beans. My son ate the cheese quesadillas and the bistek taco, very good. For an appetizer we ordered nachos and chalupas. Both delicious. . For two meals of tres amigos, nachos, a taco, quesadilla, and two chalupas we paid about $50 Definitely a must try read more

It seems like the bad reviews might have been expecting more of a tex-mex blend, this is authentic mexican food like what you would find if you went to a restaurant in mexico. That being said some dishes here are better than others. I have had some really good dishes, others just kind of eh. Friday night,none of us felt like cooking. Wife suggested the Mexican place next to wawa she drove by. Walked in and saw 2 families only here. Should have ran away then but I'm pretty willing to try anything once. So it's three of us,wife orders beef and chicken fajitas..instead of pico,regular tomatoes. Daughter orders fajitas ..no sour cream. Me? I'm easy..nothing special.steak fajitas. Not going to even mention when wife simply asks..do you have unsweetened ice tea? Went here with high expectations, was disappointed to say the least. The service was okay but there was nobody else in there so we had their undivided attention. I ordered chicken fajitas, my buddy ordered a chicken burrito. My plate had enough chicken to fill one tortilla, not quite what I expected. The chicken and peppers were okay, but the portion was way too small to be considered a meal. His burrito had more rice than chicken and he said it was bland. Fresh, delicious, authentic Mexican cuisine. This restaurant is a hidden gem. It's in a high traffic location on the Black Horse Pike but the building lacks curb appeal. You'd easily pass it by and would never know how charming it is inside. Not an elegant upscale interior but clean and inviting. The nachos supremo were delicious. Freshly made tortillas with fresh salsa, black beans, cilantro, chicken chunks, jalapeño . Accompanied by two delicious smooth salsas (red & green). We had the chicken quesadillas and streak fajitas. All dishes were perfectly prepared, fresh and delicious. And the price was right. Dinner for 3 came in at about $40 (excluding tip) and was worth every penny. We'll definitely be back. read more

This place was awesome! We stopped here last night for dinner, and it was empty...honestly cannot figure out why. I worked at a mexican restaurant (that my best friend owned) and grew up at her house eating mexican almost every night, so I'm pretty picky. They start out with complimentary homemade (awesome) chips with refried beans and cojita cheese. We started with the nachos supreme, so fresh and delicious! Next was the chorizo and pork tacos, and pumpkin quesadilla which were amazing, then on to the steak burritos with red sauce which was huge and delicious! My wife and I just moved to town and where saddened to have to move away from our local beloved Mexican restaurant. We passed by this place several times knowing that once we moved in we would have to try it. And OMG we where floored, the restaurant had great traditional ambiance and the service was top knotch. They served glass bottle sodas which personally is something I love. The food was amazing, my wife had the Taco Sombrero and I had the Chimichanga. Both where amazing. A great Mexican restaurant! My husband and I took a chance from the other reviews on here. First the restaurant is easy to find off of the black horse pike. When we pulled into the parking lot there was only one other car which I am guessing was the owners. We were the only ones I. The restaurant for the first 15 min(More people came in later as we are). The place was so clean and nicely decorated. The chips that they gave before you order were delicious . I got a grilled chicken quesadilla and my husband ordered beef tacos and an appetizer of supreme nachos. Everything was amazing! Everything was fresh and tasted like authentic Mexican food. I was impressed with the restaurant. I was impressed with the selection of food, drinks, and the prices. They have everything I like on the menu and interesting bottled drinks. It's not a dumpy Mexican restaurant and it has a good crowd of middle class type couples having dinner and . The only problems there is the service and they don't have dessert. I went on a Friday night and they only had one person working there to answer the phone taking orders and waiting tables. We had to keep asking the waitress for our drinks. I can over look this because I want to go back. It's deserving of 4 stars, but I give it 3 stars because if it had better service and dessert, I would give it 4 stars.
