Place is pretty good. The issue is that they're absolutely never open when they say they are and might make you waste a trip.

Never open when I step foot on the establishment and if it is open (never is anymore) I come in to rude service and workers are never present when I need assistance. I live locally and have passed by Agave numerous times, and made a mental note to stop and give it a try. Last month, my dryer broke, so I went to the laundromat to throw in some bedding. While I was waiting, I figured I would give lunch a shot. They have had a lunch special, on a big advertising sign, on Browning Rd, right in front of the store. ( I've seen that sign for a few months). I went in to order the special, (It was either $9.99 or $10.99), and the really snotty young girl at the counter said to me, "We don't have that offer any more" Okay, so why didn't someone just bring in the sign, or is that a scam just to get people inside? Then she said I could order the food for 5 dollars more. (basically, an extra 50% pct). I still was going to do it, but when I asked if it was the same, she added, that it also doesn't include the soda, (that's on the original deal/sign). These people are straight out crooks/scammers! I walked out. Tons of great, nice, friendly Mexican restaurants in the area. Skip this place! read more

So I'm back again reviewing this spot that I tried for the time 2 years ago. This is the only Mexican restaurant I eat from because their food is delicious. I've been in a chokehold by their sopes and tinga tostadas. They make these bomb ass fiesta nachos & of course my forever fav, their carnitas. I'm not the biggest fan of their salsa verde but when I'm in the mood I'll add it to my tacos. Still recommending this place 2 years later. 10/10 read more

This small family-run Mexican restaurant is the real deal. Menu items and descriptions are listed in Spanish first, with English translations below. Numerous refrescos and other Mexican beverages are available. Two televisions play Spanish programming as you enough your meal. The atmosphere is that of a takeout place that has tables. While they do have eat-in service with waiter/waitress, it seems that a lot of their business is for takeout. The restaurant is clean and spacious but very laid-back. Think of a pizzeria seating area- great space to eat, maybe not the most romantic (if that's your thing). I ordered enchiladas with beans instead of meat. They were so good and the portion was huge- I could only eat half of the plate. The beans were rolled in homemade corn tortillas and covered with red sauce, lettuce, and queso fresco. My sister graciously allowed me to try a bite of her carnitas burrito. The carnitas were so tender and flavorful, and the burrito was huge. I will definitely be back here the next time that I am in the mood for some delicious, reasonably-priced, authentic Mexican fare! read more

Just want to say during Covid and being open to trying new restaurants from Doordash this place is amazing. The value you get from this place is spectacular. We have ordered three times from here and 3-4 dishes will last you almost half a week. The nachos are amazing while their platters are overwhelming. Been there several times and always ordered the same thing which was fantastic, Carnitas tacos. I thought they went out of business but they showed up again, must've been a Covid thing.They are take out only at this point .....the area is a little lower end but the food is authentic Mexican. When it comes to Mexican food I'm especially choosy-I'm instantaneously turned off by any chain restaurant or Americanized place that offers only crispy tacos & shredded cheese (there's a time & place for Taco Bell or Qdoba, but if I want authentic I want a taquería-& a taquería w/tacos lenguas for ex). Therefore, I was immediately intrigued by Agave, bc as soon as I walked into this neatly kept, clean, restaurant & noticed the Jarisco sodas & kits for make-it-yourself Micheladas, the containers of Chamoy, & Valentina for sale. I love that the tv was tuned to the latest telenovela, & the tamarind candy. It's a complete 180° from any Don Pablos. The food itself, even without the extraneous pluses, would keep me coming back. My favorites are the tostadas de camarones con queso fresco & avocados (the avocado was creamy yet firm, the chunks of shrimp fresh & plentiful, & the tortilla was crunchy without being burned), tacos Cecinas (the meat can be a bit tough, but overall the taste is tangy & salty without being overwhelming), & the enchiladas de pollos (excellent chicken-tender & juicy & the verde sauce is spicy & delicious). The nachos were amazing as well The staff are courteous & friendly as well. Decent & hardworking people who take pride serving the best Mexican food I've had in ages. Having a super lazy Sunday we opted for Mexican take-out for lunch. I've heard good things about Agave and it's super close to my place so after scanning the menu and a quick call our order was ready in about 20 minutes. We picked chicken nachos, the Fiesta Mexicana and 2 carnitas tacos. The portion sizes were huge! The salsa verde & red sauce that accompanied these dishes were flavorful and definitely full of heat. The Fiesta Mexicana is more than plenty for 2-3 people to share, from the grilled steak, pico de gallo, rice/ beans, a quesadilla, some crispy flautas with chicken and tortillas that came bundled up on the side...all delicious. The meat in the carnitas tacos was cooked beautifully and had such an awesome flavor. They came stuffed full for just $2.50 ea, and those two would have been enough of a meal for me. The nachos were piled with fresh cooked chicken and lots of queso, crema, and lettuce. I'll definitely be back to try a bunch of other dishes out. read more

There is nothing better then discovering an awesome restaurant. I recently visited Agave Mexican Food & Pizzeria and was blown away. The combination of Mexican and Italian was enough for me to give this place a shot. I ordered the steak enchiladas with Verde sauce, green sauce. The meat was very tender and well seasoned and the Verde sauce was made in house. You can tell that the chef took time creating my dish and that makes a difference. The restaurant itself can accommodate large groups and is also appropriate for a quite dinner for two. There are two separate menus; one for Mexican and one for Italian. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable.The menu featured many authentic Mexican dishes and provided several pictures as well. I highly recommend giving this restaurant a chance as it is a hidden gem in the middle of Bellmawr. read more

I'll admit, i don't frequent enough mexican spots in south jersey, but after reading Sophia I's review I had to bookmark this spot and taste for myself. I'm usually a south philly mexican foodie only (trucks and brick and mortars). I came a few weeks ago on a late sunday afternoon. The place wasn't too busy with only about 2-3 other tables. The place is really spacious, but the tables are spaced in a manner where you'll still be far away from diners. The menu includes your typical/traditional mexican dishes. Don't think tex-mex, think mexican. I saw they had Al Pastor tacos so i had to order two of them. A steal at $2.50 a piece. I ordered the Agave Especial -- basically a big platter of various meats and sides. I was super hungry so the chips and dip that come with dining in was a lifesaver. They were pretty good. The chips were room temp/cool but didn't detract from the overall flavors--really good! I had to hold myself back so i wouldn't get full since i ordered a lot of food for myself. The two tacos came, and they were HUGE...compared to the mexican spots in philly--about double the size! These were pretty good. Not the greatest i've had, but still really good. The sauces that come with chips are also delicious. The platter came out and whoa... overwhelmed by the quantity! All the meats were good, chicken, steak, shrimp. I think it was chalupas that came with it were also good. The rice and beans were a bit of a let down. I prefer refried beans, the platter served whole beans. Not a deal breaker, but it didn't have much flavor. Everything else was really good. My friend had the steak fajitas. It looked good and nice portion. Not sure if he liked it because i'm not sure he likes mexican food. I also craved al pastor on another lazy sunday and called for a pick up order. Again, the serving was HUGE.. so much so i couldn't finish 3. I consider this my new go to spot for mexican. read more

I saw several great reviews for Agave here on Yelp, so I paid them a visit for lunch one day. If you like real-deal authentic Mexican food, this place definitely will not disappoint. Chips and Salsa were excellent, and the Fiesta Mexicana was outrageously good. Tender flavorful steak, and the presentation was very nice too. It was a very good value for the money. I am looking forward to another visit where I can try something else from their menu. The only downside to this restaurant is the location. It's in a lousy neighborhood, and there were some sketchy people hanging out in the parking lot the whole time I was there. Honestly I would not go there at night, but the food will definitely bring me back to Agave during the day. read more

A great BYOB place for a torta cubana! When you eat at the restaurant, you're given authentic chips with refried beans and queso on to which are delicious. The salsas, red and green, are always flavorful and on the spicy side which is always good! They have a great agua de horchata which takes the meal over the top. The tacos al pastor and cóctel de camarón are ok but I will stick to my torta! The only downside is we asked for jalapeños en vinagre and we were given freezer burned jalapeños which were unedible. I would have rather been told they were out of them. read more

As I pulled into the parking lot there seemed to be quite a few sketchy looking guys hanging around outside the place. I had to question whether I should even get out of the car. But I figured they were hanging out while doing laundry at the laundromat next door. Glass entryway doors are cracked, and overall the place is dark and dingy. I get a feeling it's not all that clean. I got a couple of fish tacos to go. They were bland, and I have no idea what part of the inside consisted of fish.
