Food was okay, but nothing memorable. Ambiance was non existent, and the server didn't speak any English. My coworker ended up ordering something that was not at all what she expected. The restaurant's internet went down while we were there so we couldn't pay and leave. The girls working there kept trying to reboot the credit card machine but it didn't work. We ended up almost being late back to work because of this snafu. There are much better places to have Mexican Seafood in this area so I won't be back here in the future. read more

I gave it a two because overall it was a mediocre seafood restaurant. The food is alright. Served hot and tasty. But i've had better elsewhere. Ambience was amazing, made you feel like you were by the beach because of all the marine decors they have with that aquarium by the entrance with a huge fish. What i disliked was that right when we got in, you could smell a strong smell of bleach. That was unsatisfying. Well overall i'd say try it out. It might work for some people and for some you might aswell just drive down to SPI for some real authentic seafood. read more

The seafood here is delicious! I mean who wraps bacon and white cheese around large shrimp, batters it and then deep frieds it?! Holy cow it was good. The bacon was great and the cheese might have been 'Queso Oaxaca' because it had a nice subtle taste and creamy, stringy texture when melted. This particular plate was called "Costa Azul" and can be found in their signature dishes on the menu. I don't think you can find it at any other seafood place. The menu is varied and offers a large option of dishes, mainly specialty shrimp plates. If you love shrimp, this is the place to go. Something on the menu to look out for is a side they call "salpicon." It's shrimp with tomato sauce with vegetables. Aside from their own specialties that I mentioned, they have the typical Mexican plates, known as 'a la diabla,' 'al mojo,' and 'veracruzana.' They are orginally from Reynosa and recently moved their first valley location to expand to McAllen. I think they might have been in Hidalgo or Mission (not sure). The low prices came with them! My first visit was last week. I had dinner with my mom, my aunt and my cousin, so we ordered quite a lot. Had plenty of left overs and paid only around 40 bucks. Next time I will probably share a plate, since the portions are fairly generous. Overall, it was a great place. The owners and staff are friendly people. It's good to hear of another great restaurant from Reynosa make the jump to the Valley. They know about food! read more

Authentic Mexican food in McAllen is nothing new, but the casual atmosphere is very original here, right down to the Mexican game shows on tv. The interior is painted in typical festive Mexican style with a differ color on each wall. Put me in the right mood. Of course, I had no idea of what to order so the waiter was very helpful in pointing out there signature dish. I ordered the breaded jumbo shrimp wrapped in bacon. The mixed ceviche is a ripoff. The shrimp and octopus are fresh and tender, but the large portion probably contains less than 3 ounces of seafood, floating in 3/4 of a cup of ketchup. I generally like sweet, tomato-based ceviche, but this was disgusting. Plus, El Terco charges an extra $1.50 for avocado when avocado comes standard with ceviche everywhere else in the neighborhood. read more

I started going to El Terco when they were still located in Reynosa before the "violencia". I got addicted to their fresh and well cooked chicharrones de pescado. I still miss the tortillas they used in Reynosa and wish their menu was more Mexican but I do appreciate their addition of tartar sauce here in the States and have to say I enjoy the atmosphere more here in McAllen. They have some great dishes and my wife and I really enjoy going here. read more

I would've given this place 4 stars. not that the food is not good, I actually really like it. The pescado a la diabla is amazing! It's got the perfect amount of spice n is very flavorful, n the camarones costa Azul r the best! The reason 4 the lower score is that the service was TERRIBLE! I had 2 wave down whichever waiter happened 2 b in sight, n even then they pretended not 2 c me! I got my food 1st, my brother got his like 10 mins later, n my mother 10 minutes after that!
