My husband and I recently tried La Jaiba Shrimp House, and we were incredibly impressed from start to finish! I ordered the Fish Cilantro plate with white rice and grilled vegetables, and it was absolutely delicious. The cilantro sauce was packed with flavor and complemented the fish perfectly. The fish itself was tender, flaky, and cooked to perfection. Even the white rice was seasoned wonderfully and had amazing flavor. For our appetizer, we ordered the shrimp quesadillas, and they were phenomenal. They were generously filled with shrimp and every bite was bursting with flavor. My husband ordered the fried fish and shrimp with fries and black beans, and it was equally impressive. The breading was perfectly crispy without being greasy, while the fish remained soft, moist, and flavorful inside. Everything on the plate was cooked just right. It's not often that every dish at a restaurant exceeds expectations, but La Jaiba Shrimp House absolutely delivered. The food was fresh, flavorful, and clearly prepared with care. Ive just arrived at this restaurant and they immediately accommodated us for a party of 10 by putting tables together. 3 trays of chips, beans, and salsa were brought for everyone to enjoy while we looked at the menu and made our choices. I asked if the lemonade was naturally made, which is customary at Mexican seafood restaurants. It isn't, FYI, but they do offer Pepsi products. We all placed our meals and our drinks were brought to us quickly. The meals took about 10 minutes or less of a wait time. For a party of 10, that's pretty impressive. I ordered a parillada for 1, which included 6 fried shrimp (medium sized) and steak fajitas. They were good. The rice that accompanied the main course was a good serving as was the side dish of fries I requested. Overall, our waitress kept up with our orders and nobody got anything in their order wrong. First time here and thought it would be a change of pace. Small restaurant on a corner in a strip mall. Seafood prepared with a Mexican flare. We had the seafood enchiladas with the cilantro sauce and a seafood stuffed chili relleno. Both were excellent. The relleno is made with shrimp and fish, mild sauce and no breading and came with black beans and rice, just really good and lots of flavor. The enchiladas were stuffed with shrimp and fish as well but the cilantro sauce made this dish and more than enough for dinner. Also came with two sides. I stopped by during my lunch break after been craving shrimp all day long. I took a seat and when the waitress asked for my drink she was on her phone. Not talking on the phone but looking at the screen and did not look up to see me. She later brought out chips, salsa, refried beans, and a little cup of caldo. The caldo was really good. I ordered their shrimp in cilantro sauce and it comes with a side salad, bread, and white rice. I believe the rice can be switched to veggies or corn but there's a small fee (less than a dollar) The food was brought out and it was good. The cilantro sauce was a little thick but still good taste. It was served at a good temperature too. After I finished eating I was just sitting there. There was only one other customer aside from me but still it took a while for the waitress to come back with my check. Finally after a few minutes I was able to get her attention. Overall, food is okay. I'll probably be back but only when I'm really craving seafood and I'm at work (since this location is right by my office) read more

I called an order in around 5 o'clock and asked for a large fried shrimp dinner which she said contained 13 pieces of shrimp. I was there in less than 10 minutes and it was ready. There were only two people in the whole place having dinner. She brought my to go very quickly, I paid her and left. When I got back to The hospital to share my dinner with my husband there were six shrimp and two pieces of fish. I do not care for fish, Much less limp fried fish. I also did not care for the six limp shrimp that I received. They looked and tasted as if they had sat in a steamer all day. I wish now that I would have returned it but at the end of the day I was just too tired. Needless to say this was a bad experience for me and I will never return to that restaurant. read more

Good lunch spot with a good selection of shrimp recipes. I went to this McAllen chain for lunch and was pleasantly surprised by the menu options. The layout and decor of this spot is nothing fancy. Think standard strip mall eatery. High ceilings and hard floors with industrial strength tables and chairs. The service was quick and attentive. The restaurant does have beer but I did not ask if they had a full bar. The menu is definitely the attraction of this place. I did not get to go through it as thoroughly as I would have liked but there seemed to be an amazing number of options for how the shrimp could be prepared. I went with a friend who had eaten there before and so I went with her recommendation of shrimp tacos but I wish I had taken some more time to pick something out of the menu on my own. The Tacos were good, but they had other choices that seemed more unique and tasty. They had standard fair desserts but I was too full from the tacos so I did not order any. Overall, this is a great little place for lunch with friends and would also do for a relaxed dinner for a couple or by yourself. read more

Went here with my girlfriend and her brother and mother on a saturday afternoon. not too many people in the place (maybe about 6 tables were occupied)...which is good when you want a table, as well as a quick bite to eat. the good: the food was really good. i ordered the seafood platter. the fried fish, fried shrimp and hush puppies were great! they also served everyone a complimentary shot glass (or a little bit bigger) of some fish soup. good stuff! i didn't really taste around the table to check if my company's food was good but they told me it was...so we will take it at that. the bad: while the waitress was really nice, they need to have more than one person waiting on tables to make everything work. they had one waitress working that was all. she did a great job but you can only do so much by yourself. One family actually left after 5-10 minutes because of no one came to their table and waited on them (i assume). so would i go back to the shrimp house? most definitely!! i just hope there is more wait staff there for its customers. read more

Surprisingly the reviews are pretty bad but I have to say they have the best cilantro fish I have ever tasted. They have pepsi products but they serve your drink in a pretty large cup. You get free chips and salsa and this time around we got beans as well for free. Portion of the fish is pretty small but delicious! The wait is usually not too long and service is pretty decent. We paid around $25 for 2 including taxes. Kid friendly environment. read more
