But who would have guessed that Mambo Seafood with its casual dining style environment with list of selection for seafood lovers would be one of the best places. This place was amazing!!! I came here with coworkers while in town for a conference and it did not disappoint! The building is quite large and it's very casual on the interior. There is plenty of seating for larger parties as well. The menu is quite extensive with a variety of fried or sautéed options available. For anyone ordering fresh fish, you are asked to approach the counter and choose the fish you want. The entrees come with two sides, including the "famous" rice as an option. I ended up ordering the entree with sautéed shrimp, calamari, and octopus. For the sauce, I chose the scampi sauce that comes with Cajun seasoning. For my sides I ordered the rice and upgraded (for $1) to the grilled vegetables. Everyone really enjoyed what they ordered. The portions were quite large and definitely could have been shared. Alcohol is limited to beer and margaritas, but there are several flavor options for the margaritas. Fresh juices are also available. The only downside was that service took awhile. The restaurant didn't appear to be overly busy, but it took awhile for us to get our drinks. Also, the calamari app was brought without extra plates and silverware for 5 people. Great selection at affordable prices. My first time in I ordered a whole red snapper with sides, half dozen oysters, half pound of octopus, and a drink. All tasty and cost about $40. You get a lot of food, as is pretty standard for all things in Texas. My favorite part is that you can choose different sauces or cooking styles per dish. The fried fish is an excellent choice. This seems to be a local chain. It's unlike any seafood restaurant I've ever visited. The ambiance has an odd warehouse feel. You walk in and sit wherever you want. A friendly server will be with you shortly. It's a fairly extensive menu. I visited with my husband and kids. We opted to get the family meal and add a side of fries. That was a lot of food. The fried fish isn't anything like a beer battered fish, it's a much lighter coating. I have no idea what kind of fish it was, something small and mild. We also got four rolls with it meal. They were small, soft, and a little bit sweet. The shrimp appeared to have the same breading as the fish. My husband and kids ate the shrimp and they liked it. We also got a giant plate of shrimp fried rice. That was delicious and my favorite part of the meal. Our waitress wasn't the best. We kept having to ask for things. We had to flag her down to ask for a straw, then a plate, then a fork, and then cocktail sauce for the shrimp. We enjoyed our meal, and I would return if we visit the area again. read more

My wife has always talked about the famed rice from Mambo's...and yes, it was definitely delicious. The rest of the food we tried was tasty but....left me wanting a little more. First...the ambience is loud and bustling. It's one large room with a high ceiling. I almost felt like I was at some fish market in Seattle...so depending on your taste, you might like or not. If you're looking for a nice romantic spot to cozy up with your date...this is not the place. But on to the food...we had the cóctel de camarones to start...was it great? It was good...the shrimps weren't too small nor too large. The cóctel tasted freshly made which is very important... personally the sauce just needed a little more kick to it. Still a nice start... The prices for the food are reasonable.. Nothing too crazy. But I got the feel that almost everything is fried. The rice to begin with is fried...even though the taste is epic. I had the stuffed crab and stuffed shrimp wrapped in bacon...but the stuffing in the shrimp was the same from the crab...so it basically tastes the same. With a little more cream cheese in the shrimp...that would've been killer. The shining star here is the rice...which IMO is why it's not a 5 star place. You don't go to a seafood place to eat fried rice...no matter how tasty it is or how many proteins you put in it. You should go to eat their famous camarones or their amazing cócteles. But still...the rice is definitely some of the best in town. I'd recommend this place so you can at least try their Mambo rice...once you've tried it...it just might keep bringing you back. read more

Had the delicious Diablo! Fish & Shrimp with Mano's fantastic fried rice! Fantastic dinner on a Monday night. We chose to sit on their covered patio and enjoy this so much; Mambo's blows air conditioned cool air so even on a hot day it's a wonderful feeling! Started off with a plate of shrimp in a fantastic garlic sauce with nice pieces of garlic!!! Both of had this so it works for a goodnight kiss at the end of the night! I won't say anything more... The waitresses here speak Spanish, but there are pictures on the menu to assist the patrons. They are always so sweet and serve you with a smile. Much appreciated! Our dinner spot for Wednesday evening. No wait, we were told to sit where we like. We ordered ceviche, chicharron de catán (Gar), caldo de camaron (shrimp soup) and a fried fish and shrimp platter. For starters I remember coming when this place had first opened years ago and while it's still good, it's not as good as it once was. The ceviche is now made differently, it used to have salmon and now it's made with Tilapia and served on a tostada and has some kind of mayonnaise spread which takes away from the taste of the ceviche entirely. They also add a ton of lettuce which leaves almost no room ceviche on top. The chicharrones were ok. Fish and shrimp plate was good, always love the tasty fried rice that it's served with. The food is good but the ambiance is like a college cafeteria. The walls are all solid surface, so noise bounces around and it's loud.

I highly recommend their Mambo fried rice, I know that sounds odd at a seafood restaurant but it is really good. I have the fish and shrimp platter and it is lightly breaded and not overcooked. It is a pretty good place if you are looking for fried seafood. read more

Sent on a Thursday around 3ish. Hardly anyone there, got sat quickly, kool. Sat for a bit, no one came by in a expedited manner. Keep in mind, it was slow, like a dozen total tables being occupied. Dara was server, let problems begin!! Brush up on your Spanish! She recommended a combo vuelva la vida appetizer, great idea! For main dish, I ordered the garlic/butter octopus, shrimp combo with EXTRA garlic. Food arrives n BAM no extra garlic, it looked like no garlic instead. She never asked how my food was, I had to wave down another server for drink refill. When Dara asked how I liked my meal, I told her there was no garlic, ajo. She literally smiled n walked away.....???!! According to what I saw, she had a total of 3 tables, mine included. I was approached by Dani, lead server?! She was going around asking tables how everything was. When she approached mine, I stated to her I requested extra garlic n didn't receive any. She immediately took care of it. I asked for an extra roll as well. Better some time than no time I presume. Get a load of this, I guess this restaurant needs the money, I was charged .35 cents for the roll. Instead of quality customer service n saying something to the effect of: we apologize about the garlic you didn't receive, the roll will be complimentary. Anywho, food was lip smacking yum yum, portions aren't huge just almost right. Atmosphere was almost like an open space market with seafood counter displaying a handsome bounty. This was my second trip to Mambo's and it's quickly become my favorite place for seafood. The empanadas were so delicious--I order them every time I visit! The shrimp scampi with rice was also so good with plenty for leftovers the next day. I was also impressed with the pepinada (cucumber water + lemonade). It's now a favorite drink of mine. I like this place. The food is OK. When you want a table for a large party and you want a lot of deep-fried seafood, then this is your place. A menu item not to be missed though is the dirty rice. Their french fries here are really good, too. On this particular occasion, we ordered the family meal. Everything tasted good, but came to the table in "spurts". The shrimp and fries came, but no shrimp sauce and the server was nowhere to be found after dropping the food. We started to eat and found the food above warm, but certainly not fresh from a fryer. Eventually, the fried fish showed up, much the same temperature as the previous dishes. It still tasted good though once we received shrimp and tartar sauce. The baffling one for me is the dirty rice. It's the best part of the meal, but it took the longest to get to us. Mambo serves this with almost every meal. I envision that they have this stuff made up in huge quantities. My party was finished with the main courses and I asked about the rice. The server eventually returned with it and we put almost all of it into a to-go box. It didn't seem like the restaurant was understaffed nor overloaded with business. Not sure what was going on. Hot food, more attentive waitstaff, and coordinated delivery of food to the table would have made this a four if not five-star review.
