My new, favorite establishment for carnitas in the Woodland area. It is delicious and much more affordable than Maria's Cantina. The carnitas were flavorful and consisted of the crispy parts, the tender parts, and the fatty parts....just how I enjoy my carnitas. My only complaint is that there is not a phone number to order in advance. read more

In only one visit, I'm sold! Woodland has over 25 licensed Mexican restaurants and just as many Mexican street vendors but these people decided to open another Mexican restaurant. Unlike the "cold" customer service from the prior business, El Texano Carnitas welcomes everyone with a genuinely warm welcome. Right after I placed my order, chips and salsa were placed on my table. Just a few minutes later my Sampler arrived. Giant mound of food including, a super thick quesadilla, carnitas (your choice of meat) on top of chips with beans cheese and sour cream. This was 100% delicious! While food flavors are so subjective, the customer service makes their food taste that much better. I will be back. read more

Stopped by after seeing a friend talk about this location. We came in closer to closing but were taken care of. They give chips, salsa and a cup of beans while the food cooks. Everything...from the people that work here, to the food and portions..THE ABSOLUTE BEST! I accidentally ordered on Doordash, a different Carnitas place and noticed the difference RIGHT AWAY. This place doesn't do Doordash, first of all. Second, that other burrito was not anywhere near the quality and deliciousness that El Texano is becoming very well known for! The carnitas super burrito is humongous and is full of carnitas meat, not full of fillers like lettuce and rice. Rice is there, but the carnitas is the main focus and the burrito is full of it. Hard not to try to eat the whole thing in 1 sitting, but even harder to stop halfway through. So glad El Texano is here. I will never waste my $$ elsewhere, ever again. read more

Stopped by here after an Opera House play and really, really liked it. My Macho Grande, a pound of carnitas with tortillas, guacamole, peppers, rice, and beans was not only terrific, but contained enough for 2 more meals. My wife loved her carnitas burrito and will get two more meals, as well. Our friend also enjoyed her 3 fish taco meal and left with at least another meal. Service was great. We just had take out from here but it was EXCELLENT!! Fresh soft corn tortillas. House fried chips not from a bag. Delicious fresh tomato based salsa. And the CARNITAS! Just the way I like them! We had a great experience here. I had the Torta Ahogada, which was the one of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten anywhere, full stop. My wife had the tacos (one pastor and one carne asada) and enjoyed both. The service was friendly and efficient. Wow! From top to bottom, this place is a gem. My husband, brother-in-law and I thoroughly enjoyed the food. Everything from the house made chips and salsa to the beans and rice was excellent. The carnitas were EXCELLENT! They truly were the best carnitas I've tasted since eating my own family's. The ower was so gracious and kept asking us if everything was good. He even gave us a sample of the birria, which was also excellent. The price of the meal was very economical with the size of the plates exceeding our expectations. New place in town. Decided to try it out with my husband. We got the macho grande (special of the house) and it was indeed enough for two! Very delicious. My family has been in the cattle ranching business since 1976, about 20 minutes from woodland. My siblings and I are third generation owners. Every time I asked the guy for more ketchup, he gave me two additional tiny packets, and I finally stopped asking bc he looked annoyed after I only had about 50% of my preferred amount of ketchup for a large burger and tons of thick fries. Moreover, they didn't even walk the order to me and ***gave me a bunch of sauce I didn't want or ask for*** WTF. Ordered the clásica burger with no mayo and they decided to drench it in guacamole which is not on the ingredients on the menu and I didn't want it. I didn't ask for a remake bc the guy had already dismissed my ketchup request. I ran out of Diet Coke (full to the top with ice) and didn't want to ask for more bc I didn't want to deal with the guy again. I spent a minute trying to wipe off the sloppy guac spread and I'm eating a very large salty meal while thirsty because I ran out of fountain Diet Coke halfway through and didn't want to talk to the guy again, to ask him for more. At any other burger place (and I'm literally a yelp elite member), they either 1) give plenty of ketchup the first time I ask, 2) they ask "is that enough ketchup?", or they 3) provide self service ketchup. Any of these options are perfectly acceptable. Virtually all restaurants do this because they understand that obsession over customer service optimizes for customer lifetime value, creates happy customers, and only costs them 12 cents. They've perhaps lost hundreds of future dollars from me because I spend an enormous amount eating out and am literally working one block away. I don't know if he owns it or just works there. This was on 7/26 at ~4PM. He would not be f****** bothered. I tipped him 20% too, up front, showing him that I expected at least reasonable service. And remember, they don't even walk the order to you. You walk up to the kitchen and order. You find your own seat, clean up after yourself, and place the tray in a designated area after you're done. I'm okay with all that, but not for a 20% up front tip with rude service. Won't be coming back even though it's profoundly convenient bc it's near a bunch of fantastic businesses I regularly frequent and enjoy. I hated my experience here. Could've had a great customer. Again, I work a block away. The fries were good though, for frozen fries. Well seasoned.

We stopped by El Texano carnitas today after driving past it, and we're so glad we did! We've tried most of the carnitas spots in town, and this place definitely stands out. The carnitas were crispy, flavorful, and absolutely delicious -- easily some of the best we've had. The restaurant was super clean (which is rare for carnitas spots) and didn't have that weird smell you sometimes get at other places. The service was friendly and welcoming, and they even gave us chips, salsa, and tortillas with our order! The portions were very generous and filling, so you really get your money's worth. We'll definitely be back. Highly recommend if you're craving good carnitas without the grease and funk. read more

We recently had dinner at this restaurant and we were immediately impressed with the level of customer service. We were immediately greeted and welcomed when we walked through the door. The food was delicious and full of flavor. The portions were huge which left plenty to take home and enjoy the next day! The salsa and guacamole were extremely fresh, which paired perfectly with the homemade chips. It is clearly apparent that the owner takes pride in providing the best quality ingredients in the food served at this establishment; no shortcuts taken in the cooking process. Amazing! We were in town for work from Michigan and stopped in based on reviews. it was the best meal we have had in a long time. so tasty, reminds me of a burrito place in Mountain View we hold as the best in the world! You will be glad you stopped in if you do! read more

The gentleman that assisted me was very friendly and the restaurant was fairly clean. I ordered a pound of carnitas for a small gathering of friends. The carnitas were not what we expected, they had no salt, no flavor at all and they seemed very dry. read more

The green sauce had a roasted flavor while the red had a bit of a kick to it. However, both the shredded chicken and the beef in the enchiladas were a little chewy. Also they were kinda small. We ordered a thing of beans and rice- both were good, the beans were full flavor and tons of cheese. I know it's supposed to be on the cheaper side, but it really wasn't. The subtotal for 6 enchiladas and a side of rice and beans each ended up being 55 before any fees, taxes, ect. You can get two combo enchiladas plates for much less than about 28 each at many other places. And yes, it was 3 enchiladas not 2- but again, they were smaller than a standard enchilada. So 3 was really more like 2. I'm not sure if any combos are offered in store, but there wasn't any on DoorDash. Also for the side of beans being 7.50 and the side of rice being 7.50, I thought I'd get a larger portion of each. However, each portion was for about two people. So that means if ordering a side of rice and beans for yourself, it would be about 7.50. That's pretty high I think. At most places it's like three dollars to maybe five dollars not to mention cheaper if ordering in a combo. It wasn't bad by any means, but I thought wed get more food for the price. And again the texture of the shredded chicken and beef along with the size of the enchiladas was a bit disappointing. Not to mention on DoorDash I did select to have extras on the side, such as forks and salsa, but they did not include any salsa on the side. This was odd to me as a lot of times without even mentioning that you want salsa on the side most Mexican food places will pack that . And I really did not feel there was enough sauce on the enchiladas. Like once I started cutting into it and eating it, especially that the chicken was chewy, I was really wishing for some salsa or some more sauce. I ended spraying a little bit of oil to help out, as it was the only thing I had, which was not ideal.

When the ask for changes to our plates typically they get it perfectly, so the kitchen pays attention, which I like. The last thing I need to hear is my kids complaining that they got something on their plate they didn't want. Not much else service wise when you eat in. You order sit down with your number and the food comes out. This place used to be terrible, but it's decent now, and for the price decent is ok by me.

My family has been in the cattle ranching business since 1976, about 20 minutes from woodland. My siblings and I are third generation owners. Every time I asked the guy for more ketchup, he gave me two additional tiny packets, and I finally stopped asking bc he looked annoyed after I only had about 50% of my preferred amount of ketchup for a large burger and tons of thick fries. Moreover, they didn't even walk the order to me and ***gave me a bunch of sauce I didn't want or ask for*** WTF. Ordered the clásica burger with no mayo and they decided to drench it in guacamole which is not on the ingredients on the menu and I didn't want it. I didn't ask for a remake bc the guy had already dismissed my ketchup request. I ran out of Diet Coke (full to the top with ice) and didn't want to ask for more bc I didn't want to deal with the guy again. I spent a minute trying to wipe off the sloppy guac spread and I'm eating a very large salty meal while thirsty because I ran out of fountain Diet Coke halfway through and didn't want to talk to the guy again, to ask him for more. At any other burger place (and I'm literally a yelp elite member), they either 1) give plenty of ketchup the first time I ask, 2) they ask "is that enough ketchup?", or they 3) provide self service ketchup. Any of these options are perfectly acceptable. Virtually all restaurants do this because they understand that obsession over customer service optimizes for customer lifetime value, creates happy customers, and only costs them 12 cents. They've perhaps lost hundreds of future dollars from me because I spend an enormous amount eating out and am literally working one block away. I don't know if he owns it or just works there. This was on 7/26 at ~4PM. He would not be f****** bothered. I tipped him 20% too, up front, showing him that I expected at least reasonable service. And remember, they don't even walk the order to you. You walk up to the kitchen and order. You find your own seat, clean up after yourself, and place the tray in a designated area after you're done. I'm okay with all that, but not for a 20% up front tip with rude service. Won't be coming back even though it's profoundly convenient bc it's near a bunch of fantastic businesses I regularly frequent and enjoy. I hated my experience here. Could've had a great customer. Again, I work a block away. The fries were good though, for frozen fries. Well seasoned.
