Once again, this is just our experience. Interesting setting. It seems like it used to be an office building? The interior reminded me of a nursing home or hospital cafeteria with it's white walls and minimal decor. They sat us in the corner (three or so booths behind the register). The dirty dish dump was right behind us and loud. They did not offer a high chair but we didn't ask for one either. The waitress was nice at first and was very friendly to the regulars around us. Us, not as much. Our children's food was extremely hot. Yes we know cooked food is hot, but it was intense. The food was ok. From the scribbled "bill" it looks like they charged me $1 for verde salsa on my burrito. It was then covered with cheese, masking and concealing the taste. My wife's steak ( carne asada?) was quite tough and chewy. The food again was ok. Nothing amazing but good. The waitress was attentive until the bill came. She put down a scribbled "bill" with the tax, which I believe was exactly $5..which seemed odd. It was quite expensive. She brought out thier pay at the table tablet and stood OVER me as she first showed me the TIP screen. Several pre set % already pulled up. I did see where you could set your own amount but that wasn't the issue. It was she was standing over me and the "in your face" high tip rates. The lowest was 15%. Which I paid and will pay much more when appropriate. But the Ritz, this place is not. The tablet never showed the itemized price per items and my receipt, which she was reluctant to get, did not show the itemized items either. I really got the feeling they are up charging people. And with the older customers, it seems it maybe a fast and easy way to make a few extra bucks. If that's not the case PRINT OUT ITEMIZED BILLS! Don't "even out" tax amounts on your scribbled "bill." And always bring a receipt! No need to pay this much for food and suspect billing. read more

The best in St. Charles County! Scott is awesome...and his margaritas are the bomb! The food is consistently excellent and SO reasonable. The cheese dip and light, crispy chips are always a good bet! My favorite is the ala carte menu. I can build my own plate, without the beans/rice "fillers" the other Mexican restaurants seem to swamp the plate with. My personal faves (keep in mind, I'm a vegetarian) are the chile relleno, tamales, and cheese enchiladas. Sooo good. Half price margaritas on Wednesdays also rock! They are delicious and full-strength!! If you order a margarita pitcher (NOT half price on Wednesdays), they bring two pitchers...one full of margarita and one full of ice! No watered down drinks here! Totally family-friendly atmosphere, lively crowd, great food, reasonable prices, and really hands-on owner that makes this a place we go to again and again! Took the wife and little one here based on the other yelp reviews. We went on a Saturday during the dinner rush so we did have to wait a bit. No big deal, thats what you expect at most decent restaurants. The staff was friendly and very accomodating. After being seated, we got a round of drinks. The special on Saturday is a jumbo house margarita. It was very sugary and could tell it was mainly mix. After getting about 3/4 through, my stomach started turning into a knot. It became so unbearable I had to walk it off. It got to the point where i had to lay in the back seat of my car. I called my wife and told her just to eat without me and box mine up. She had told the waiter that I wasnt feeling well and just to box mine up. Without giving a reason, he knew it was the margarita and said he has seen that happen before. My wife got the shrimp quesadilla based on the other yelp reviews. She said it was very good and said she would get it again if should could convince me to come back. I wont give my opinion of the burrito I got since it wouldnt be fair to judge it after reheating it. All in all, I probably wouldnt go back since the margarita is as important to me as the food when it comes to mexican restaurants. If you want decent mexican food, give it a shot. I really enjoy this place. My husband and I have been coming here for a while and are always impressed with the food. Their salsa is amazing first of all. He usually ends up with a burrito and never has a complaint. I end up with tacos and they let me be picky and customize it to what I want. Today a coworker and I ordered lunch. I had a chicken and cheese quesadilla. It came with rice and beans + chips for $5!! It was delicious and better than other chains in the area. Only reason I knocked a star is because sometimes the service isn't 100% and I hate that they're closed on Sunday - which is always the day my husband asks for it. Haha. We went to El Tio Pepe on a Saturday evening, and were impressed in every aspect of our visit. We received each item we ordered-drinks, meals- in less than five minutes from ordering. Had our first dinner there last night. It was very busy, Friday night; but we got seated right away. Chips and salsa on the table within the first 60 seconds, which always makes me happy. As a Texan in StL, it's hard to find amazing and true Mexican food. But this place delivers completely. Everything is always consistent each visit and there's even a special menu online for a few chef creations dishes. This is easily one of my favorite restaurants in all of StL. read more

We have been to a lot of Mexican restaurants. This is Our favorite! Awesome margaritas, great owners, great food! Queso is so good. Sabanas Blancas is my husband's favorite. We went to the bar because there was a short wait and my wife and I ordered a couple of Top Shelf Margaritas. They were absolutely fantastic, as was the second round that we ordered at the table. My local go-to casual Mexican place. Friendly service, quick, prices are very fair, and half price Margaritas on Wednesdays (although you might want to get there early-they fill up quickly and the wait can sometimes be long on Wed nts). Salsa is good and even their mild sauce is on the spicy side; but ask for the hot salsa if you like it hot. Support local and enjoy. P.S. - Don't forget that this is a casual establishment that you will be fine going in your t-shirt and jeans and the turn in for the restaurant is on an outer road parallel to I-70 West bound and is easy to miss with only one entry and exit turn in to the lot. read more

This used to be the spot for some good grub back in the day. However, as OFallon grew it went way downhill. This is a big no go for us. If you want FANTASTIC authentic Mexican food I recommend going to El Azteca down on Hwy K heading towards 40. Great prices. The food is always HOT and it comes out fast. We have been coming here for years. I can't believe it took me this long to check in. The food, servers and owners keep this place family oriented. Scott's margaritas are the best around not to mention one of his signature drinks "fire and ice" (upon request) is unbeatable. Chimi's, tacos, quesadillas, fajitas, etc., are fantastic. If you like spice get the fajitas a la Mexicana. Fresh, not pickled jalapeños with the seeds. You'll need a margarita or two to put out the flames. I stop by here on a regular basis to enjoy some great food. Staff is always friendly and attentive. The dishes they feature are prepared well and always hit the spot. It does get a little crowded at dinner time all week so be prepared to wait during the busy hours. The other thing I really like about this restaurant is the Tequila selection available at the bar. A great range of types and brands that is not commonly found even at other Mexican restaurants. Try the 3 G's (tres generaciones añejo by Sauza) its my favorite and should be yours too. read more

I have to say I am really enjoying El Tip Pepe lately. The one in O'Fallon is FAR better than the one off Fifth Street. At the O'Fallon location, your food comes out very fast and is very delicious! I overheard the bartender who I believe may be a manager or owner as well explaining how he makes his margaritas with fresh lime juice. You can tell he takes pride in the drinks he makes for his guests! I like how they come out and will sing you a song with their guitar on your birthday and really make it special for you. read more
