This place has been around along time and I have never eaten here before, due to the fact that I just started eating real Mexican food!! I am the girl that has gone to Mexico several time and lost weight! After working in St Charles, il an getting the "real" stuff I am not a lover of Mexican food!! Service can be hit or miss depending on your server and chasing your server for things you need but miraculously as soon as they want to flip your table they'll suddenly be found with the check even if you're not ready. RACHEL IS ALWAYS PHENOMENAL THOUGH! Food almost always comes out faster than any other place I've ever been. A big fan of the bar service and drinks, typically choose this over other Mexican restaurants due to that. The mole and verde sauce for enchiladas is very good. However the meat, queso, rice and beans lack flavor so I tend to order a la Carte so I don't waste money on sides. 5 stars for drinks, Rachel and speed of the kitchen. read more

This food is the best, most authentic Mexican in the St. Louis area. Some restaurants claim to be authentic and, no. I used to frequent Arcelia's in STL city years ago and this is the closest thing I can find to that level of authenticity. One way you can tell is that their burritos are not drenched in sauces (tomato or queso). If you like that, cool, but that is not authentic Mexican food. Another way you can tell if food is authentic, is in their ranchero/red sauce on the enchiladas. You want a deep, dark ranchero sauce to be considered authentic. Most places have runny, bland, tomato-y enchilada sauces. Not here, this is flavorful! I'm so glad I found this. It's a bit of a drive from where I live, but it's worth it! read more

If you like bland Mexican food, this is your place! I'd be willing to bet the majority of high-praised reviews are done by those who never leave the St Louis area and maybe even St Charles. They're deceiving and lead people like my wife and I to a place of utter disappoinment. St Charles county is a culinary wasteland and El Tio Pepe is at the top of that list. I love the staff because they care about your dining experience. FOOD: My family and I revisited for a weekend lunch and received the same great service. Their chimichangas are the best served with cheese inside the pocket (not like some others I've visited). We also ordered soft shell tacos fried and fajitas which were also delicious. Guacamole and salsa both tasted fresh. MARGARITAS: The following week (yes two times within one week), my brother treated me to lunch on Wednesday. Much to my surprise, they have an in house special of 1/2 price Margaritas any flavor, any size, frozen or on the rocks on Wednesdays. they were really good. He didn't complain about them being weak! We looked for items suitable for a diabetic. Our server (Rachel) made a suggestion which was perfect for him. Chicken and fajita veggies topped with cheese which he thoroughly enjoyed. I've heard a lot of good things about this location and they didn't disappoint when I came here yesterday. I came around 2:30 and they were pretty quiet (which is nice because when my buddy came they had a 45 minute wait). We were seated promptly and served chips and salsa immediately. The waitress was very kind and warm which is always a good thing. When I ordered I decided on the chicken fajita quesadilla. Like many Mexican places in the area the food was brought out fast which is great. The chips and salsa were good, salsa had a bit of a kick but not enough to deter any of the flavor. I had a little bit of trouble eating the quesadilla because it was a seeming briefly warmed flour tortilla with moist contents so it kinda fell apart on me. The taste was very good though as the vegetables and meat were cooked well. I enjoyed the rice and beans a lot too. Overall I thought they did a fine job. I'll be back. read more
