Service and food were so quick! I ordered a beer (O'fallon Wheach on draft) and it came out at the same time as my meal- crazy fast! Pineapple and pork tacos were great, very flavorful and juicy. They let you do a double side of rice if you don't want to do rice and beans, and you can top the rice with queso for only $1. The salsa was great, but the chips seemed old and stale. The service was ok nothing special real. It's a berry busy place so I was shocked to experience what I did. Let's start off with the menu. They do not offer a alcohol/cocktail drink menu. I asked the server what kinds of drinks do they have. The server stated she did not know the drinks they carry because it changes so often ñ. That was not impressive. I ordered a Paloma but she first had to find out if they make it. They brought the Paloma and it was gross. It tasted like it was made mostly with lime juice. The appetizer was good we got the queso fundido. I ordered some fajitas very disappointed I only had like 4 pieces of shrimp barely any meat mostly sauce veggies. I was not impressed by this place. Maybe we got a bad server maybe it was just busy they could not keep up. Regardless I do not recommend this place and I will not be returning. Food is not cheap and I sure don't want to waste it on garbage! read more

When I told my boyfriend I was going to post a review of El Tio, he jokingly told me not to say how I really felt because it is hard enough to get in as it is! The food is the best Mexican I have ever had, the margaritas sooo good and the staff is friendly, efficient and seem so happy to work there. Very reasonably priced. Family friendly, but also a great adult gathering place. We've seen the owner bussing tables on several occasions. This is a family that has put its heart and soul into their business and it shows! Very clean restrooms, parking might be an issue if you come during peak hours, but oh, so worth it! I only wish there was more than one location! read more

I really had high hopes for this place based on the reviews but all I can say is meh. Let's start with the chips and salsa meh! The tacos, meh, the rice and beans, meh. Nothing stood out. I don't know if I caught them on a bad day but to me, it was very mediocre. And the sin of all sins was the sweet tea was not sweet, the horror! I'm a Mexican food fanatic if you've seen any of my previous reviews. I've heard amazing things about this location. It was Friday and me, my family and girlfriend were looking to start the weekend off. El Tio Pepe is located in the heart of Old Town Ofallon. It's not a very large establishment. You walk in and there's not much of a waiting area with chairs. There's a bar area and I would say about 20 tables. The ambience has a homey feel and is unique compared to other places in the area. The service was phenomenal. There was a 40 minute wait for our table but I noticed that people were waiting for a reason. I've never been to a Mexican place and had to wait anything close to that. The host was gracious and was very nice. While you wait, you can go to the bar and order drinks which was awesome! Our server got our food out lightening fast. It was really incredible and that 40 minutes felt worth it in the end. The food was spectacular as well. We of course started off with the chips and salsa. The salsa had an excellent taste and texture and the HOT salsa was perfect. Scorching, but enjoyable. I order the fried chicken chimichanga and it was golden fries to perfection with moist shredded chicken inside. Don't forget the queso on top! Boom. Yummy. Overall this place knocked my socks off. It's hard to differentiate Mexican places sometimes but this one is unique and a must try. There's a reason people wait 40 minutes to an hour to eat there. I've been hearing such great things about this establishment, and I remember going once as a kid, but haven't ever made it back. I finally decided to go with my buddy yesterday for a late lunch. We were seated instantly and the waitress was very nice. The chips and Salsa are definitely in my top 5 for Mexican restaurants. It actually had a kick to it which I'm always looking for in a restaurant Salsa. For my meal, I decided on the Burrito Supreme, flour tortilla stuffed with chicken and beans and topped with cheese. It was delicious and flavorful. Overall it was very good, and I'll be back soon. read more

We have lived near El Tio Pepe for 10 years before trying just bc we assumed it was another generic Mexican place. All though they serve a lot of commonly found dishes in the area it is super good. The pineapple tacos were killer! Like one of the best tacos I've had in my life! We wound up getting it again the following week and the tacos were just as good as the last. It's become a go to when our family of 7 can't agree on what's for dinner lol read more

BEST MEXICAN FOOD IN OFALLON!!! I have been reading several reviews on this restaurant, most speak highly but a few downers. My review has all good things to say. The Margaritas here NEVER disappoint. If there's one thing I hate its paying 10 bucks for a large drink with NO alcohol in it. This is not the case at El Tio. They always hook you up with with a perfectly made margarita. And if you get the large you will only need one! Also the enchiladas are Amazing! Love everything I have had here. Been coming for years. The service is also 2nd to none. And yes I have been all over the country and also to Mexico several times and enjoyed Mexican food. This place delivers! Food was great but the service was very poor. My friends we seating at our table with our drinks witch I bought at the bar. The waitress never come to take our order for 30 minutes. She kept coming past our table but never asked to take our order. So I finally got up and asked to speak to the manager. He apologize for the service. Awesome break from your run of the meal Mexican restaurant. Margaritas are a cut above and love their fresh squeezed options. Menu has lots of different options and if you ask about the off the menu specials, you will be glad you did. When you get there some nights, they may have a wait list but the tables turn quickly and I doubt anyone waits too long. Great place read more
