El Torero is our new favorite Mexican restaurant. Absolutely delicious food, excellent service both eat-in and to-go, and an enjoyable, casual atmosphere. Make sure to look around to notice the incredible display of sailfish and deep-sea fish decorating the walls. Thus far we can recommend everything we've tried on the menu. As a native Californian, I know what real Mexican food should taste like. This was not it. My wife and I have been to El Torero a few times in the past, but this last visit was a total disaster. I decided to try the pork tamale, and wow--huge mistake. It was a mushy, flavorless mess that looked and tasted like cornmeal porridge with scraps of meat and fat thrown in. Completely inedible. What's worse is that a server actually brought this to the table like it was acceptable. That alone made me question the kitchen and the standards here. Still hungry (and still hopeful), I ordered a chicken enchilada. That turned out to be a bland flour tortilla with boiled chicken smothered in a dull, lifeless sauce. The frijoles? Watery, flavorless bean soup. Honestly just depressing. I hate writing reviews like this, but the experience was so disappointing I felt compelled to speak up. At first glance it seems like a regular texmex place but as you get indoor it's a cozy and nicely done restaurant with great ambiance. The crowd is nice too, great for families, big groups, date night or just dining alone. The prices are great for the exceptional quality of food and generous portion size. They only have wooden booths for seating but they're comfortable. They offer free chips and salsa which is warm and nice. Their hot sauce is amazing. I'd highly recommend having enchiladas here l. Plenty of options for vegetarians and meat options for non vegetarians. They also have dedicated kids menu. They have ample of parking space with disability parking in front of the store and no stairs. I highly recommend them for a meal with the family. I have to start by saying WOW!!!! The level of Customer Service at this establishment is absolutely amazing. I'm talking superior quality! I will be back because of the level of service alone. Upon arriving, I was advised to sit anywhere. The ambiance is very casual. Perfect for a bite after running errands or even just to enjoy a good meal outside of the house and not have to get dressed dressed... Upon being seated the waitress brought over some waters and took our drink orders. I decided on the Lime Margarita pitcher and babeeeeeeeeee, it is amazing. The Food: The menu is hugeeeeeeeee. I was so excited to see so many options. LOL. I think I spent about 15 minutes going over everything.... I ended up with the Steak Fajitas and as you can see from the picture, it is an absolute real deal meal. The meat was so tender and seasoned. The rice was authentic and paired well with the retried beans. The Guacamole was out of this world amazing. I'm talking fresh, made to order, from the bowl to the table type of amazing. The Service: What makes this experience so amazing is that the entire staff worked as a TEAM. Not only did our waiter check on us, but the hostess made a round and checked on everyone, the busser came around and asked if we were okay, honestly, anyone who was staff and walked by made sure we were okay. It wasn't intrusive nor was it too much, it was perfect. It made me smile to know that genuine service does still exist. Overall: You must go. Visit date 12/30/2020 - came here with Dad and Step Mom for a New Year's meal. I like Mexican food and they recommended we go here, since they are frequent customers. The inside of he restaurant is decorated like a Florida seafood shack and has various types of fish hanging on the walls and picture of a maritime adventures. Legend has it that the owner is an advisor seafarer and frequents the ocean. The good, I at least two bowls of chips and sals and order two sides of guacamole. The food is good enough if you have a craving for Mexican food. I ordered the steak tacos with rice and beans to-go, and the steak was slightly dry and hard to bite into, but I'd still order it again. They provided more than enough limes, and I love limes! Rice and beans were good-- beans were a bit salty, but not to a point where it was unbearable. Still very flavorful. Also the lady who took my order was very helpful! I deducted a star because of how the to-go was packaged. The rice and beans were packed in a classic white to-go box, but I think at least the beans should be sealed in a container because mine spilt in the bag. I have been coming to El Torero for many years. I have visited the Lohmans Plaza location, the Peachtree industrial location (both are unfortunately closed now.) I still go to the Duluth and Stone Mountain locations. The service is always good and I love the Chips & Salsa. They have a pitcher that they refill your salsa with as much as you would like. My favorite dish is the El Diablo (Hot, but not to hot for my taste) for dessert I love their flan! read more

when you have to pay, the owner/father/heavyset man likes to charge whatever he wants, terrible business practice. They charge a fee to use your card which is unethical. But then if you have to split a bill, he'll subtract one of the costs from the overall costs and still will charge you extra. Even if it's still a small amount, it's wrong. If he charges everyone a small amount that can be an extra few thousand or tends or hundreds of thousand in his pockets because he wants to scam. When you bring it to his attention, he'll still try to justify it and won't fix it. Bad business. Stealing is weird and disgusting. I don't know what any of these other reviewer are thinking or where they have had Mexican food before. I would rather eat at Taco Bell than come back here. I will say the place looked nice and the service was quick and friendly, but the food, NO WAY. I got the taco and burrito lunch combo and besides the bland ground beef, which I have never had in a traditional Mexican restaurant, and the complete lack of any other toppings or noticeable ingredients, this dish was completely underwhelming. No flavor, no texture, no good. And what was with the brown gravy like stuff? This was not a mole' or enchilada sauce..... I don't know what it was and it really did not belong. El Torero is our favorite Mexican Restaurant of all time in America. We have tried them everywhere in the US that we have traveled and that's saying a lot for people who have been as many places as we have. I can always bet on their salsa being the exact flavor I love, their white cheese dip with jalapeños being the way I love it and their team being gracious and courteous. My favorite things are the Cheese Enchiladas which oftentimes I will order simply straight or with the white Cheese Sauce directly on it instead of the Enchilada sauce. But I have to say that the Enchilada sauce here is my favorite of anywhere. And I am picky about that. The next thing I absolutely love and I just had on this recent trip is their Special Order B "Bean Burrito with Cheese Sauce and jalapeños." This is amazing! It is so my favorite!!!!!! My wife orders the same thing. I haven't had anything I don't love on the menu. And to be honest, when we are in Atlanta area, my wife and the family and I eat here at least twice! I am not making it up. This place has the taste. The most fun thing is the owner now knows my in-laws when they come in because we've come there so often. I've been here three times since my original review and I still love this place! Yes, they could use more servers--and the food comes out a bit slow if you have more than two people in your party--but I don't care. You can't beat their Weekday (and Saturday) Lunch Special(s) and it's hard to find good mexican cheese dip in Stone Mountain / OTP East... The servers are lightening quick when it comes to bringing you water, chips, and salsa when you first sit down then quickly taking your order, but after that be prepared to wait for your food. Also, I'm convinced these servers could care less about tips; they remind me of kids--except they're adults!--who are forced to work in their parents restaurant. They don't really want to be there... *shrugs* I'll forever be a fan, but if you are looking for something fancy and servers who engage in conversation, look elsewhere. This place is SOLELY for people who love authentic mexican food and put little emphasis on prompt service (Lol), restaurant ambience, and engaging conversation from servers who want good tips.
