I'm gonna start this short and sweet. I was really disappointed. I usually go to a different location but we were in the area and decided to go to this one. It was a mistake. First red flag was that it was dead, maybe 3 tables in the whole place, and no one sat us for a while. Second red flag was that the server was nonexistent. No refills. No interaction at all really. She sucked. If it was busy, I would cut her a lot of slack, but it wasn't AT ALL. Then the food came out and it was bland and just okay. Not the food I'm used to when I go to El Toro. The staff here has always been very good. I have never had any bad experiences with any meal. The food is OK and mostly "Americanized" from what I have had on my trips to Mexico but not so much as to loose the flavor of true Mexican food. It is the best of the lot around Dayton and I have always been pleased. If the mood strikes for a south of the border meal, El Toro is my first choice. We are long time diners at the Bellbrook restaurant but the place is really going downhill with the new manager. Since he has been there (last 4-5 months), there is too much standing around, spending time distracting the waitresses and poor overall cleanliness. Today, at the noon hour, they were showing a TV program with nudity and mid-evil violence and another with UCF (cage) fighting. When I told the manager that the choice of programming was inappropriate for the families with under 10 children, his answer was "Someone requested the program so we have to show it." Can't even respond to that lame excuse! Maybe they can let Oscar manage more often- things always run better when he is in charge. Guess we will have to try one of the other locations where the brothers care about their clients. read more

We visited this location around 1PM on Cinco De Mayo expecting a decent crowd, decent drink specials, and some liveliness from the staff. We were a little disappointed on these fronts, but the food was good. We asked for their specials for the day and they were 'jumbo' margaritas and bottled beer. I say 'jumbo' because they were hardly jumbo and on the weaker side. They pre-mixed the margs so, no way to tell of you got a full shot and a half for a jumbo marg.. but it definitely wasn't anywhere near that amount of alcohol in the drink. When this place opened, service was good (not great) and the food was pretty good. Over the last couple years, everything has been on the decline. Last night I stopped in to order take-out. There was no bartender and the server that was covering seemed to be the only person working. He could not multi task. He took a refill drink order, walked by me to log the order in a system on the other side of the restaurant. 10-15 minutes later he came back to greet me and take a drink order. The restaurant only had about 20% occupancy, and there were 2-3 servers standing around. Another person sat down at the bar, and after the server ignored him once he walked up to the people standing around. His food arrived 10-15 minutes before mine. After a total time of ~45 minutes, I got my order. The food tasted like everything came from a can. My order was incorrect, chicken instead of seafood. My wife's order was a Monster burrito that was basically a pile of goo. This was the third time in two years where we were extremely disappointed with the service and the food. This small local chain has expanded quickly, and at least this location seems to be affected by the growth. My favorite restaurant in Dayton. They're always so welcoming and accommodating, and you get a ton of food for the money. Plus, the food is DELICIOUS. I've had a good sampling of everything off the menu since my family has been going to El Toro since they opened in this location, and I can honestly say I've never had a bad meal. My favorite items include the Toro Salad, the Enchiladas Poblanas, and the Quesadilla Supreme, plus their cheese dip (you've gotta get it!! Yummmm) and their awesome margaritas. Came tonight for taco Tuesday! Ordered tacos and they were good. We decided to order one more taco after waiting 15-20 minutes for the waiter to come back and check on us while my cup was empty. We tried to explain to the manager that the service was awful and the taco was cold and cheese dip was awful. We asked if we could get cheese dip off bill and the cold taco. And the manager continued to argue with us... saying he refused to take anything off the bill. I never ask for things like this at a Resturant. Best Mexican in the area! Very authentic, quick service and clean! My favorite two menu items are the chicken fajitas and the the chicken fajita nachos. If your looking to try and stay on the healthy side I would go for the fajita's since you can put whatever toppings you want on them. If your in the mood for cheese (and let's be honest, who isnt) then the chicken fajita nachos (smothered in a white, creamy cheese) are what you want.
