Leaving this review for the one parked by Columbia University. They make a solid quesadilla! Chips and guac were alright, very lime-forward, but I was not impressed with the prices. I paid $7 for a Dixie cup of guac and chips. The quesadilla was good enough to justify the $15 price tag, but I still find that pretty high for a tortilla with cheese and meat. Service was fairly slow (~20 minutes) but they were busy with the lunch rush. read more

Not sure if this is the correct page for the truck that parks on Governors Island on the weekend but leaving the review in case it is. They're stationed at the We Belong Here music festival going on this weekend and next weekend so i decided to stop by for my lunch break. Got the 3 taco meal. They're quesatacos which was a nice surprise, I was just expecting regular tacos. The meat was tender and flavorful but it could've used a tad more salt and been more spicy for my liking. El Toro Rojo made its Park Ave debut earlier this summer. I finally got a chance to visit the truck this week. I debated between getting a veggie burrito or nachos, but settled on the burrito. I heard the nachos got a bit soggy, so I settled for the former. Burrito was quite filling. It was one of those jumbo burritos. Probably a bit overstuffed and maybe a lot more rice than veggies, but it's a food truck. Can't expect too too much. $10 is a bit on the high end, but that's become somewhat standard now. I get it, they had to cut costs somewhere and I'd rather it be here than taco quality. AL pastor nachos The nachos were something else. The chips themselves were so crispy despite that they were buried in ingredients. The ingredients, of course, were also great! There was one slightly odd part about it: the cheese. It congealed very quickly and instead of gooey deliciousness I had chewy cheese. It was the coldest day, like ever, so it might've just not really survived the walk back to the office. Ran into this charming food truck in LIC. Been craving for some authentic Mexican food for sometime so I was pretty excited to see this truck. Ordered quesadilla, 5 soft tacos, fajita bowl and nachos to go. After driving 20 mins, was happy to see that the packaging held up and food was still nice & hot. Really great tacos! The birria (shredded beef) tacos were definitely the standout, but the chicken was also pretty solid too. Loaded up with melted cheese and fried tortillas, the birria tacos were fairly spicy while the chicken were more mild. They got a bit messy so get extra napkins. What a great find. I've been to the Gantry a few times but never have seen this truck. I was craving tacos so I stopped by. My friends and I had a few tacos, each at $3, which is a pretty good deal anywhere in NYC, but considering you are at the Gantry, a really great deal. The steak tacos kind of wowed me only because I tend to have low expectations for them. They are usually overcooked and dry, but these were pretty tender and delicious. The al pastor was really delicious. The pineapple compliments the meat perfectly. We also got chips and guac for $5. This is like the one place where they gave more guac than chips. We saw this from the start and dished that guac onto our tacos, which really elevated our tacos. The guacamole had a bit of a kick to it, and again as I don't like spicy foods, the kick was the perfect amount. For those of you who do love spicy food, you might not even notice it, but I thought it was great. One final thing to note about the food is that it is definitely fresh to order. Those tacos were PIPING HOT when they handed us the bag. They should put a warning sign on those things. Great truck and would definitely stop by here again the next time I'm in the Gantry. read more

Love this Taco truck. My husband and I get tacos there once a week when we are lucky enough to have it parked in front of Columbia University on Broadway ( usually at 115 street). Gabriel just refitted the kitchen and redesigned the cool logo so the truck disappeared for two weeks and we realized how much we missed it. I requested a little bit of cheese and beans. I am really satisfied. The meat was not dry and was seasoned well. Im so happy I got the burrito from here instead of chipotle. The burrito was heavy. This is a difficult update to my first review since I love their tacos and always rave about them. I've always wanted to try their guacamole, figured it has to be good since their tacos are so deliciously flavorful. Sadly, I was so wrong. Last week my husband and I got the guacamole with the chips and were extremely disappointed. The chip to guacamole ratio was disproportionate, you can see in the picture as well, the bag wasn't even half full of chips. Without even opening the lid we could clearly see that it wasn't authentic Mexican guacamole. It was simply mashed avocados with cilantro, a tiny bit of spice to it and loads of lemon juice. It was bland and sour. The chips were obviously cooked in the same frier and oil as the fish they use for their fish tacos. The smell was obvious and not pleasant and neither was the smell left on our fingers after eating them. They did also taste like fish and we couldn't enjoy them at all and weren't able to finish them. We ended up tossing the chips and taking the guacamole home to fix at home and eat with other food. Just alone it was too hard to eat as it was too sour and lacking in flavor. Very unfortunate. I hope they fix the guacamole order, it would've been great to enjoy often at the park. read more

Today my friend and I went to long island City Piers! First we had waffles from the ( waffles and crepes) truck cart! Check out the view for that because it was delicious! Later, after all the waking, photography and so on we got really hungry! we came across (EL TORO ROJO TRUCK) while we were ordering I checked Yelp first to see what I wanted to order and what people liked about this truck. We got the Nachos w. Stake. While we wait, about 2 min later - THE CRAZY WIND BLEW THEIR SIGN BORED OFF THE FLOOR, Dirt into my eyes and it started drizzling! I was still hungry and we were in no rush because we was going to go into the car and eat. Once we got our order we got into the car and found our nachos SOGGYY!! It was that nasty soggy! it didn't look fresh at all! I had about three bite, and friend had 2-3 bite also. That was enough for us we couldn't eat anymore. It was taste less. we also found a chunk of cheeses which wasn't even melted with the stake. Wow! I just felt like since there wasn't a long line behind us, we were the only customer he should of took his time making our food and cook the stake well. The stake wasn't even hot. I got two tacos: steak and al pastor and they were nice. The Al Pastor had lots of pineapple which I love and the meat was tasty but not the best I've had. The steak wasn't that good and tasted a little peppery. The corn tortilla isn't my favorite either but that's my preference. However, their green sauce was good and the portions were pretty decent. Overall it was a solid meal and on the cheaper side considering the location of the truck (near Times Square). Edit: Tried the chorizo and got the al pastor again. The al pastor seemed flavorless compared to last time. They might have given me chicken so I'm not sure. The chorizo was eh not much. I loved the perfect ratio of pico de gallo and the small chunks of pineapple​ were extremely tasty! The al pastor was cut into chunks as compared to thin slices but still satisfying. Meats are seasoned well, sauces are tasty, staff is super friendly, and love that they sell Mexican sodas. Only (minor) complaint: Sometimes the tacos can be overstuffed and bit soggy, mgmt. might want to strain the salsa a bit before serving. Nothing worse than having delicious tacos fall apart as you try to devour them! Favorite item? I've eaten tacos all over the country and these are right up there with the best. Everything tastes super fresh and the portions are generous. The price couldn't be more reasonable. I ordered a shrimp quesadilla that would have gotten 5 stars of it wasn't sitting in a bunch of liquid when I opened it, about 5 minutes after ordering it. On top of that, it wasn't even hot (as if, perhaps, it was sitting in the truck for a little and not made to order). The flavor was good, if you can get over the sogginess.
