I have worked a long day and my sweetie wanted to go to taco Tuesday. I met her there. They let me get seated at a table before she got there. The weight staff was friendly and attentive. We got drinks early. When the kiddos got there they were able to get their orders in without any issues. The atmosphere was pleasant. Not too loud not too quiet. Fun Mexican music in the background. The food was, as always, delicious. They make great chile rillenos and they also make pretty good tacos. First time in. Family lives in the area and comes in a lot. My 9 year old nephew wanted me to split the steak nachos with him so I was all for it. I love nachos. The shredded chicken quesadilla was really really good. Stuffed with meat and cheese. The steak fajita nachos were absolutely delicious. Tons of queso. Tons of beef. Tons of veggies. They were so good. The strawberry margarita was pretty good too. We will totally pop in again next time we are in town. read more

Excellent carnitas. I enjoy everything I have ordered. Cold beer and hot food! I have been going there for over 10 years

October 2023, we went there to order a carryout. We sat on the little bench next to the check out register for about 10 minutes. We made eye contact with one the waiters and waived them over. After explaining to him how long we've been there, he said he would get someone to help us. While waiting for that someone, two different customers came up to cash out their check. So about that time that someone walked up, and we stood up and politely said, we've been here for about 13 minutes to place a carryout order. He says, let me take care of these two customers first. I said sure. Then we turned and walked out, as a third customer came up to cash out. We've dinned in there before and the food is okay, as was the service. In this instance, we were surprised at what transpired. We've not been back there since for any carryout attempts or dine ins. They need to work on their service etiquette. read more

I'll start by telling you that it took a long time to serve the food, after bringing her everything seemed to be in order, and we ordered a Caldo de pollo with less vegetables and more broth, but they brought the dish as they wanted, We had to tell them to change the broth plate and it took them even longer! they were doing a new caldo de pollo??? we ate after all the delay, and in the end we asked for two boxes so we could pack what was left of food, and what another surprise, a cockroach in one of the dishes we were packing, and we still had to pay!! definitely a terrible place. El Toro, more like El Awful. If I could give it negative stars I would. We got our drinks right away then the service sucked so hard after that. My margarita smells like Raid roach spray. Waited 20 minutes for cheese dip and way over an hour for our food. 3 out of 5 orders were wrong. They were not busy, so that's no excuse for the crap service. I can't even say the service made up for the food. Because it didn't. I will NEVER come back here again. Awful awful awful. Complete waste of money! read more

We ordered a dinner for pick up. When we got there to pick up the food, there was no one in the front of house. My husband had to call the restaurant on the phone, from inside the resteraunt to get anyone to come to the front of house. The food tasted fine. Ok, I went here cause I'm from San Diego and I'm on the search for food that reminds me of home. I failed in that. The food wasnt bad...it just wasnt good. Their selections was pretty basic : burritos, tacos, and fajitas. Again not bad, but there is so many more good things mexican food can offer. No choice of corn tortillas with my dish. It was super loud, I had to put my hand to my ear to think. (to be fair this may had more to do with the large family I was sat next to) Bottom line: if you're from the midwest or Northeast you are going to think this place is fine. If you have had real good mexican food you will prob be disappointed. read more

Love coming to El Toro. This is by far my favorite location. We are a family of six and have never had a wait any of the times we have come here. The service is awesome and our food always comes up quickly and accurately. I love the chimichangas and the chicken taco salad. They always have some type of specials going on. This was my first visit here and I really liked it! The atmosphere was alive, the staff was very friendly and the food was great. I thought the salsa was good, not great. It was thick and had a touch of heat but I think some green onions and some cilantro would bring a fresh taste to it. The entrée was great! I had a newer item called a mojaheto (spelling is wrong) with charro beans and rice. The whole meal was great. Definitely we will be back soon. read more

This restaurant has awful customer service. I made simple order for pickup over the phone and was told the price would be 7 or 8 dollars. I go in to pick up my order and the "manager" rings me up for 17.50. I explained my order and the conversation I had with one of his associates. He called the man I talked to over and HE LIED TO HIM AND THEY LAUGHED ABOUT IT RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. I asked him if there was anything he could do since I made the trip there and he said "17.50. Take it or leave it". The only reason I go here is because it's close. LA FIESTA in Englewood and Troy have superior food and customer service. No wonder this food chain is struggling. Went to El Toro last night. The service was terrible. Our waiter informed us that there were only two servers. The restaurant wasn't overly busy but it took over twenty minutes to get our drinks after I had to track down a waiter. First impression of the food of course was the salsa and chips they brought the table. The chips were fresh and warm and the salsa is 9.5/10. Very very good. There's a nice amount of actual tomato chunks, onion, and plenty of fresh cilantro. I ordered carnitas and a chile relleno. First thing I noticed when the waitress brought out my carnitas was the copious amount of grilled onions. I couldn't see any meat at first. Not at all what I expected to but was more than willing. Just as I was about to ask for some hot salsa, BOOM there it was. It came with it, along with three warm flour tortillas. There's no "salad" on the plate (shredded lettuce, pico, sour cream, etc) but that's okay. All I can say is "wow". Every restaurant has its own take on carnitas but El Toro may just be my favorite. Crispy, flavorful bites of pork, perfectly seasoned. The grilled onions add a great depth of flavor. More than enough meat was hiding under all those onions, a very generous portion. The chile relleno was very good too. The wait staff was just okay. I sat with an empty glass for a little bit, but it wasn't bad. They earned my typical 20% tip. Visited this place for dinner. While the food was at a decent price, i was definitely caught by surprise. I ordered the enchilada, burrito, and two tacos and i enjoyed the burrito and tacos. The enchilada was the surprise as the red sauce tasted more like spaghetti or marinara sauce...roasted tomatoes instead of red chili sauce. The place was clean and staff very courteous, but was thrown for a loop with the one sauce. Had alot of Mexican food, from Mexico, but nothing like this...wasnt bad, but not what i was wanting. read more

We have loved the ElTorro in Huber but we have moved and Vandalia at Northwoods blvd is closer. The food is good the Margaritas are even better but the service is not so good. We waited a long time to get our food. Even longer to get our bill. Never did get our water. We will have to try somewhere else for better service. read more
