My family visited from NJ and we're amazed at the flavor and quality. The food is so good I had them cater my wedding. No restaurant has been able to compare to Fausto's (head of kitchen) cooking. If you come at lunch or dinner the lines for the food can be long, but after 7p they start selling $5 plates. The pernil is out of This world and it's only $20 for a whole one (all their hot food pricing is great especially for the portion size). You can also call same day/day before to place a large order when you don't feel like cooking. This place has been a staple for us since I discovered it when I first moved to Tampa. Part II (the supermarket): they have a great selection of Spanish ingredients from various countries that I haven't found elsewhere other than back home. Everyone who works there is nice and helpful. The raw meat is so well priced I only buy it here or at sams club. I see people who come here just for their raw meat and fill their baskets with it. It seems on the smaller side but it has everything you need including a deli, butcher, hot food section and I'm pretty sure they bake their own Cuban bread.

I love our culture, our traditions, and especially our food. I've even spent years learning to cook traditional dishes because it's my way of staying connected to my roots. I've been supporting this business since it first opened. In the beginning, it felt like a true family-owned gem. The smell of fresh food filled the parking lot, the staff was welcoming, and it quickly became one of my favorite places. Unfortunately, over the years, both the food quality and customer service have declined. My biggest disappointment, however, has been how I've been treated because I don't speak Spanish. On several occasions, I've called to place catering orders for family events and have been hung up on. Last week, I ordered a Cuban sandwich and the employee continued speaking to me in Spanish. I politely explained that I don't speak Spanish, and instead of helping me, she told me to speak to her in Spanish. She then walked away, told another employee that I didn't speak Spanish, and referred to me as a "gringa." While I may not be fluent, I understood enough to know what was being said. I was completely embarrassed, walked away without my Cuban sandwich, and left feeling like I didn't belong in a place I've supported for years. Today, I decided to give the restaurant another chance. I called to place a catering order for a graduation party of about 75 people. My call was disconnected three separate times. On the final call, I was simply told, "No speak English," before the phone was hung up. I'm sharing this review because I genuinely want to know: Is this a business that only serves Spanish-speaking customers? If not, then every customer deserves the same respect regardless of what language they speak. No one should be made to feel unwelcome because they aren't fluent in Spanish. I love supporting Hispanic-owned businesses, especially as someone who is proud of my own heritage. That's exactly why this experience has been so disappointing. Respect and kindness should never depend on the language someone speaks.

It's business like these that set up in the black community and suck all the black dollars out like a vacuum and treat us like we are 2nd class citizens or a if we deserve less. Let them feed that day or 2 day old food to themselves or their culture. They will never get my business. And the ambiance...it smelled like a meat market...stink.

Unfortunately, we didn't make it out that week so missed the special, but when we did stop by a couple of weeks later.... WOW! We fell in love with the old school bodega feel. The smells of the fresh produce, the fresh meets, the music, the pleasant demeanor and greeting from the cashiers, workers on the floor, and the butcher team took me back to my days back in New York and when visiting family in Puerto Rico. Other reviews complain about the tight aisles and busy butcher counter.... REALLY??? Pretentious much??? If anyone can complain about the fully stocked store and navigation challenges, it would be me as I am a blind Puerto Rican relying on a white cane and on my Nubian Queen to navigate. However, I am not complaining, will not complain, and would not have it any other way! We've since visited multiple times, most recently. This past Friday. I've been holding off on a review, because I wanted to be sure the experience wasn't a one-off. Well, I can tell you today, it wasn't. From the moment you walk in you are greeted by the cashiers. As you make your way through the store, the workers on the floor greet you and offer help. And, the butcher team, apparently, recognized my wife and I and made an extra effort to get my attention to greet me and welcome me back with a warm shout of "PRIMO!!" So, that's the vibe. Now to the prices. While the standard grocery prices are comparable to the big chains, we have found that the meat prices more than make up for it. While the prices are great, the meat quality is not compromised. I just downed a plate of cubed steak and onions and you'd think they'd used a prime cut as it was tender and not full of tendons. You want ox tails, go here. You want chicken wings, go here. You want flank steak for an awesome Ropa Vieja, go here. You want those verduras - malanga lila, llatia, green and ripe plantains, go here. And don't forget dessert - pick up a cheese flan at checkout. Unfortunately, I never got to bring my Mom here as I lost her earlier this year , but, I would have gone broke and gained a lot of weight, because she would start picking everything up and start cooking all the Puerto Rican staples as soon as we got home - R.I.P. Mama! BTW, their website is up to date and keeps you posted of their weekly specials. We keep an eye on that and their IG and plan our trip from Clearwater when our supplies get low. We originally went to sample the food since we had called and spoken to them regarding some shredded chicken and pork for our work since we are hosting a taco feast on May 22nd. They originally gave us a quote that was reasonable so we wanted to sample the food before ordering. After sampling the food and got back to the office we decided to call and place the order.
