We were walking around San juan while travelling and was planning to go to Anita's gelato. This place was right across and decided to check it out. I haven't had empanadas much. But probably this was the best I had. It had the perfect crust outside, not soggy at all. The lamb ravioli was really good tried it with the creamy pesto sauce, but it was not as creamy as I expected it considering they also had regular pesto, but it was still super tasty, it had a really strong lamb flavor which complemented really well with the pesto. We tried the pumpkin ravioli pasta with pink sauce that was quite creamy and really good as well the service was great. We did not have a reservation but got lucky I guess. Waited ten minutes and got a spot, they were almost full. The decor was really nice, kinda dark themed. I really liked the chandelier as well.
The restaurant has an old time vibe, it really looks like an old warehouse. The food was delicious, every dish we had was tasty. We were celebrating my dad's birthday so they sang happy birthday for him and brought him a little dessert. The wine selection was alright but nothing too bad we could work around it. The service was exceptional even though we were the last to leave we never felt pressured or hurried out.
There is no words to describe how incrediblely good this place is. My husband and I went out walking and found it, we were staying at the Double Tree. The service was amazing, our waitress was so so sweet and gave recommendations. For an appetizer we had the beef and pork empanadas, out of this world and the calamari. It was lightly breaded with such great flavor and a dipping sauce. For dinner, my husband ordered the Veal Ossobuco w/ sweet potato gnocchi and bolognese sauce on top. O.m.g. it was sooooo good. Per recommendation of our sweet waitress, her favorite is the Lamb Ravioli w/ a pink sauce and shit...it was unreal !!!!! I LOVE this place soooo much !!! And the cocktails, were excellent too and the inside was beautiful. So many wonderful things to say !!!!
Our dinner at El Viejo Amlacen in Old San Juan was just OK. The service was hit and miss, with a major faux paux with the wine service. The food was also hit and miss, definitely not worthy of the price tag... It's a beautiful space, small but cozy, nice chandeliers and a comfy feel. Nice bar area as well. As noted, the service wasn't the best, likely from lack of experience... all very young and constant confusion about seating in the dining room. We were moved after being mis-seated in an area where a reservation came in two hours later. The staff constantly shuffled tables and chairs around, arranging and re-arranging seating in the dining room.... literally every 5 minutes or so! Sadly, we were moved to a table where the live music set up literally two feet from the table. Once the music started, we could not even have a conversation. Live music OK, but way too loud for the small space. The kitchen was equally disorganized... our sweetbreads were presented lukewarm and without much taste. We had the steak milanesa with the cream sauce and spinach... the steak was over-cooked and was modestly warmed when served. The grilled vegetables on the small weren't much better. Cookies and ice cream dessert were just OK. Simply put, the food was mediocre at best. The service issue with the wine seemed like a bit of a bait and switch with champagne... the bottle we ordered wasn't available, so the waitress suggested an alternative from the menu, only the alternative wasn't the bubbles listed on the menu... it was another sparkling rose NOT on the menu, at 2x the price of the bottled we tried to order. Not sure it was intentional, again, it may well have been inexperience of the wait staff not understanding how to discuss alternative wine options. In any event, a very disappointing meal, and left much to be desired for the price tag. Cool place, but the service and food do not warrant the price tag. Too many other good places in Old San Juan, we don't need to go back!

I had the Dulce Catalina drink and it was alright. There was nothing special about it. I would skip it. However, the Gaelic Parmesan risotto? Absolutely loved! The place was dimly lit so it gave the perfect ambiance for dinner.

The menu seems to be a blend of Argentinian, Italian, and local PR. Everything coming out of the kitchen looks incredible and portions are sizable. The local grilled sausage made a nice appetizer easily shared by three. Fresh and natural tasting served with a chimichuri. The fried calamari served with homemade aioli was some of the best I've had at a restaurant. Salmon stuffed ravioli nero with lemon and marscapone was outstanding, if not a bit rich. Pollo Milanese favaloro was also excellent and massive! Served with local tomato sauce, mozzarella, and topped with eggs over easy. All was going well until my fettuccine sepia pescadora came. This homemade squid ink pasta was to be served with an assortment of fresh local fish , mussels, shrimp and octopus. Unfortunately none of the pescadra made it onto the plate. Would have been a perfect dining experience if not for this significant oversight. Cocktails, ambience, and service staff were all excellent. Would definitely return and save room for dessert.

Welcoming outside presence. Greeted promptly. Our first wine choice was not available, but the waiter recommended a great replacement Malbec. We ordered an appetizer (Provoleta) and split a nice risotto main dish. The Provoleta was a true cheese bomb, probably best for 4 people. The risotto was creamy and loaded with pancetta. Overall, great experience. The only down side: the chairs are too hard. read more
We dinned her on the recommendation on our hotel bar staff... they mentioned the tge food was great but service could be off.... The two entries were nice with the chicken and spinach ravioli having nice flavor and the stuffed chicken having a better all around flavor mixture with the combination of chicken, ham and cheese. We ordered both a chicken and a pork empanada and they were stuffed full and the breading was light. Overall, the food was very nice and as we continue to expereince, service was slow and lacked engagement. read more

The Milanese was fabulous and the cocktails were great! We also had the gnocchi and ravioli.....so good! The ambience was beautiful as well. read more

Went there with the wife for a light lunch. I had a Pino Grigio, the spinach fritters, and a green salad. The wife had the salmon croquettes and the beef empenada. All was excellent. Great ambiance, service, and food. read more

Strolling through Old Town, we were looking for a place to eat. We stumbled across this Argentinian restaurant, as it looked warm and inviting. We were quickly seated and ordered an empanada and calamari for an appetizer, and ended up splitting the short rib, and braised beef for dinner. The waiter first said the braised beef would be a 40 minute wait, but it actually came out shorter than that, and was it worth the wait!! It was tender like a pot roast,and the sauce was splendid. This is a very walkable, lively, picturesque part of town. There are many restaurants here, and if I'm back this way, I may just go back here. read more

El Viejo Almacen is a must try if you are in Puerto Rico. It was luckily down the street from our hotel, so it was super convenient. The night we were there they had a live musician playing, so the vibes were even better. We started off with chicken empanadas. These hit the spot as we were incredibly hungry. They tasted great! We then ordered the Lamb Leg, Salmon Ravioli, and Mashed Potatoes. I had never had Salmon Ravioli before - this dish absolutely blew my mind. It tasted so delicious. I still dream about the Ravioli. The Lamb Leg was definitely a healthy portion size and also tasted great. The Mashed Potatoes were a bit bland. One note: the bathroom door does not lock properly, so be aware (unless they have fixed this since Feb 2024). I would highly recommend trying this restaurant if you are in PR! I would make sure to not dress super casually as this is a nicer restaurants. read more

The food and the ambiance was just amazing. Top tier experience for my first Argentinian restaurant! The food was different from the usual Mexican / Sonoran food I'm used to but it was very flavorful. The arroz provencal, I had never tried anything like it, super delish and I even shared it with the girls and they also enjoyed eating it. Everyone in my party liked their food, from the Milanesa, risotto, salad to the churrasco! The service was nice, they didn't know any of the "main land" drinks we were asking for but they still made them. Super delicious, a must try spot whenever visiting Old San Juan. Ask to be seated upstairs it's beautiful with a nice big chandelier in the room and less crowded then the first floor. read more

We were really looking forward to having lunch at this place, unfortunately the service did not match the food which was served. As soon as we got in the hostess barely acknowledged us, it almost felt like we were bothering her. Kind of hard to figure why this would be the case, we were the first ones there for lunch. We did not want to order a big lunch so we just went with a few tapas. We started with two empanadas a beef and a pork empanada. They were both absolutely delicious. We also had a charcuterie board with various types of ham and salamis. The board was huge and Very good. In addition we also ordered the grilled sausage which was very tasty along with a hot sauce/chimichurri sauce. Last but not least we ordered the croquetas which were delicious. The restaurant was very nicely decorated and had a very rustic appeal to it. It is unfortunate the service was lacking because the food was good. read more

Took a little while for the server to come, granted I arrived late but you're open so pay attention. Overall the food was pretty good! Definitely recommend if you're looking for a late dinner in the area. Pretty nice ambience as well. read more
