My husband and I shared a prosciutto caprese salad, filet with Malbec sauce, rosemary and herb braised beef ravioli with triste sauce, and Parmesan risotto. Everything was fantastic, and washed it down with a perfect pairing Turnbull Cabernet. All of it was phenomenal. Atmosphere is nice. I realize we are in Puerto Rico, but the waitress couldn't understand my order of "rum and Coke". She asked if I wanted a sprite, so I repeated " rum and Coke ". Then she asked if I wanted "regular"? I said "coca-cola". My wife then repeated my order to her, "rum and Coke". I was brought a can of Coke. (I was not asked if I wanted a 2nd one when can was empty and I still had food). The bread was chewy (microwaved?), and bread sticks were stale. My pizza was very good, as were the other entrees in our order. The cheesecake was very good too. After desert plates were taken away, our waitress took a long time to bring the check. I thought she would automatically do it after taking desert plates away, but when looked up for her, she was across the room leaning against the wall looking at us. We had to signal for the check. We ended up as a happy accident and I'm glad we did. Amazing food, drinks, and ambiance. The restaurant is has a cozy, warm feeling, with the low lighting and dark wood. We sat at the bar and tried a couple cocktails. The menu is a fair size, I was surprised to see pizza on it as that's not what I'd think of with Argentine. I liked that you had options for sides when you ordered your protein. I ordered the lamb with a side of fettuccini. My brother had a steak with sweet potato. Both were fantastic, the lamb was fall off the bone in a rich tomato based sauce. This was an unexpected favorite on our visit to San Juan. read more

To be fair, we were in Puerto Rico on the touristy strip so I was hoping the local Yelpers would help us find a great pizza spot. We walked past three pizza joints located next to the Marriott...now I wish we stopped at one of those. We walked about 10 minutes from the hotel to check out this establishment as it was rated 4.3 stars. From the get go, we were disappointed. Service: We got our menus and were asked for drink orders. Drinks arrived quickly, yet, after that, it seemed like our server forgot about us. Once we flagged her down (we had to ask the hostess if we could order food) the server returned and displayed a slightly annoyed attitude. We ordered calamari (no flavor), the chicken & spinach ravioli (no chicken--spinach tasted like the frozen boxed version) and a pizza (we ordered extra pepperoni but it looked minimal). The pizza tasted like a frozen boxed pizza. We were given the bill and that, too, took forever to be dealt with. I walked our check and credit card to the manager. Our server returned with the mobile credit card device and rushed us--she literally pulled the machine out of the hand of the person paying when he wasn't done. Poor service. Poor quality of food. It was weird to me to see my waitress in the corner watching me and talking to another waitress, 7min after I was seated. I had the Salomon with garlic and honey sauce. Mashed sweet potatoes and salmon croquettes. The fish, is essential cooked well with honey on it. Very sweet, garlic has an undeniable flavor and it wasn't present. The mashed sweet potato was very very good. Truly loved it. The croquettes were okay, the sauce was just tomato sauce. Wasn't flavorful. **nothing takes away from the food or establishment. My wife was delighted with her veggie in cauliflower base; in my case I was ok with my pepperoni and chorizo regular pizza. La Pizzería is an Argentinian restaurant from the same owner of El Viejo Almacén and Il Piccolino. As the name suggests they specialize in pizza; however, they also serve other dishes. You'll find them almost immediately once you enter Calle Loiza. If you live or are staying nearby you are in luck because it's street parking only. It's difficult to find parking on this street so Uber might be a good option. Luckily for us, though, we found a spot right in front. The interior is not so big. Half is the bar, the other half the dining area. They also have an outdoor patio on the side. We were seated inside. This is a hip joint. I really liked the decor. The walls are painted to give off a rustic feel. The walls are covered with photographs of people, places and things... not all Argentinian. Service was fantastic through and through, from our server to the bussers. Very friendly and attentive. Our server was helpful and eager to answer any questions we had. I was between the spinach and bechamel empanada and the onion and cheese empanada. He recommended onion and cheese. Good recommendation. It wasn't a very big empanada but it was packed with filling. It came with a spicy mayo dipping sauce (not spicy at all). The empanadas here are baked. For the main course my wife and I ordered the Matadero pizza, which is a meat lovers pie. Our son had a personal cheese pizza. Both were hits. The cheese pizza was cheesy; it had a great pull to it. Our kid loved it. My wife and I enjoyed the Matadero. For dessert we got the tiramisu. Surprisingly our son loved it. More surprising was that he recognized the coffee flavor and he's never had coffee (he is 5). Overall, a great experience. We'll definitely be back. read more

Came here after eating at Raya. Wished we would have came here first, I would have ordered their special 3 lbs t-bone or 4 lbs porterhouse. Anyways ended trying their mussels. In the USA it's either red tomatoes sauce or garlic/white wine sauce. Argentinas make it with green sauce with is made out of parsley. It was different, not bad. Wished it had a kick to it. Cool spot for a romantic date. Went there with an awesome new friend and we enjoyed the experience immensely. The linguini with chicken was amazingly good, although my ribeye steak (medium rare) was very grisly and tough. Taste was good, but the steak was a bit difficult to cut and eat, and not the best I've ever had, even though it was nearly $50. The linguini, and my date, definitely made up for it though. Deep conversation with a beautiful companion, so to put it simply... who cares too much about the food? The service was decent, although our waitress forgot my mocktail (and ended up comping it when I asked again after 30 minutes of it not showing up, but it was really good and flavorful). One thing that was a bummer though, I went to pay with my card and then opted to pay via Apple Pay / phone instead, and the waitress accidentally took my card anyway and forgot to return it. I forgot to make the effort to retrieve it before we left and called the next day and they said it wasn't in the "lost and found" and made zero effort to track it down. Had to report it lost/stolen and get a new one. But, whatever... like I said, my date was the highlight of the whole experience and more than made up for any of the actual dining drawbacks. My husband and I stayed nearby and happened upon this restaurant and decided to eat here, I'm so glad we did! We ate at the bar; the bartender was so friendly and offered great recommendations. All of the food was so delicious and is made fresh daily at the restaurant. We had the Pamplonas de pollo and lamb ravioli, highly recommend! We were looking for a dinner spot on a busy Saturday evening in the Condado section of San Juan. All the restaurants in the main area had lines. We searched online for options and found a reservation time at La Cantina Argentina. After checking the menu we reserved a time only ten minutes from then. Perfect timing! Upon entering the dimly lit yet classy décor we were greeted by the friendly hostess who, after a few minutes, guided us to the table. The waitress also greeted us with a smile and menus. The menu is higher end with a nice variety of choices for each course. We ordered appetizers, Caesar salads, seafood pasta, steak and chicken dishes. All of the food items were fantastic! In addition to the wonderful quality of the orders they were also very large servings which we brought back for additional meals. The wines and other drinks were also very good. The staff is terrific with all the servers providing great service without being overly attentive. All the staff made us feel that they were genuinely happy and grateful that we dined at La Cantina Argentina. We will definitely return here when we visit San Juan again. read more

If I could do a separate review for Service and Food, I would give service a 5* and food a 3*. Here is why: We decided to try it last night as we were walking in front of it. The eclectic decoration reminded me of the Cafes in Buenos Aires and knowing that the best Italian food outside of Italy is in Bs. As, I was enthusiastic. We were welcomed by the amicable host, we sat in the Sofa against the Wall by the small window and we had one of the friendliest waitress in San Juan. All was great as she described the menu and made us aware of the relationship to El Viejo Almacen sister Restaurant, which we have visited previously for Milanesas and Bifes. Indeed, the Menu looks similar. We ordered: 2 glasses of Malbec, 2 Queso con Cebolla Empanadas, and a SanTelmo Pizza. Malbec: Good. Luigi Bosca is always right. Empanadas: Tarjeta Roja! Two empanadas were brought to our table in horrible presentation, like deflated. I asked server why they looked like that?, and he was gracious but he did not know. Suspecting they were heated in the Microwave, I told the server "If they were just heated in Microwave I do not want them", so I tried them and they were in fact just microwaved and served. Terrible texture like if from a Gas Station. Is unacceptable to even try to have customer receive a $6/empanada, which is and an Argentinean staple like that; "Insulto a la Patria', my Argentinean friend said when I told him the story. Anyway, the server was gracious, and after about 15 minutes brought two empanadas oven baked as they should be. I always appreciate when a business corrects a wrong. My negative comment is mostly related to the attempt to have me accept a substandard product. Pizza: We ordered a SanTelmo. Remembering the Pizzas, I have had in Buenos Aires, the Dough is always fresh, sometimes thin, sometimes thick depending on the Pizzero. This Pizza topping and Pomodoro sauce were good, but the texture of the crust was not of a freshly made Pizza. It felt as if it was done previously, like frozen, and then just added the toppings and sauce. Not what one expects from a Buenos Aires inspired Pizza. As we were eating the Pizza, the Chef came out and greeted the table by the window to our left, then the other table in front of us by the window, he turn around and walked away since I suppose we were invisible at that point. So I asked for the check, paid the $75.00 and left unfortunately dissatisfied. Wish you success. You have great service staff and ambiance. read more

I made a reservation in-person for the following evening at 7:30pm. On our walk to the restaurant the following evening, they called me to tell me they were still waiting for our table to be ready and that it would be another 20-30 minutes. So we went to a park nearby and hung out for 30min. When we got to the restaurant, they said it would be another 20-30min wait. So we got drinks at a place nearby and came back. We ended up getting seated at 8:40. They did comp our drinks for the hour-long wait to be seated, but our food didn't come out until about 10:30. The ambience was nice, but the service and food were not great, and definitely not worth an hour wait beyond our reservation time or to be served 2 hours after sitting down. read more

So impressed with this place! My server was John and he was outstanding!! He went above and beyond: Always had our waters filled, boxed our pizza for us, and even held the door for us on the way out. Some of the best service I have experienced in the past week of our vacation. I ordered a large Mataderos pizza and shared it with my boyfriend. It was some of the BEST pizza I have ever tasted. If I could give no stars, I would. I understand Puerto Rico is a tourist destination and I am that, but save your time and money and go anywhere else. Our waitress acted like she didn't understand English and brought me the wrong drink. She never came back to the table for me to even ask for the correct drink. She NEVER came back to check on us, or offer refills for our drinks, there was only my 16 year old daughter and I and the place had many empty tables. I had to wave her down to get refills. The calamari was flavorless and bland. Funny enough, when I asked for a refill of my drink, it was the right one and she seemed to understand the remaining encounters in English. She rolled her eyes and seemed annoyed to wait on us. We asked for boxes and then she disappeared over at the end of the bar looking at us but taking forever to give us our check. When we finally got the check, she acted like she needed to look at my card to determine if she even accepts that as payment. I'm sorry, but who doesn't accept visa? This type of behavior makes me never want to visit establishments of another culture. Go elsewhere! read more

The food was pretty good, as well as the environment, but the service was absolutely terrible. We had called in advance to let them know we were hosting for a 50th anniversary for my parents. With a large party, we ordered the appetizers as soon as we got there. We had to wait over an hour for the appetizers to come as well as the kids meals (pizzas, one of them never came) and two hours for the rest of the food to come. We also had to order our forks because apparently it's not essential for eating. Not only that but some patron's dog got its water before we did and they came much after us. It wasn't even busy while we were there, yet everyone was waiting for hour. We suspect the server never placed the order. The server was not able to manage a larger party, but the rest of the staff did not support the server to get the job done. Unfortunately the couple celebrating their golden anniversary had a bad time and we regretted the decision for hosting their event at this location.
