Be the cheese to my papusa! Finally tried the El Salvadorian food papusas at Ricas Papusas & Mas…read more The papusas were pretty good and crunchy. They kind of had a nice tortilla crunch to it. I also liked how the food came with a side of raw beets. The sauces they provided also weren't too spicy and just the right amount of spice. However, the tamale I tried didn't have much flavor to it was kind of dry and flavorless. The flan also wasn't really sweet. It had more of a bitter cough syrup taste to it, I had much better flans before. The food also did kind of take long to come, it was around a 15 minute wait. But it could be because it was only two people running it. This place wasn't crowded at all and had a very simplistic aesthetic to it. Overall, would suggest the Papusas only here, you can skip out on the other items. Price: $4.50 Rating: 6.5

Thank God for another pupusa place in Queens so I've been to a one other one called salavatoria but…read moreI won't compare I absolutely had a blast and this place was so so good as well I got 3 mixed pupusas and it was so juicy and and so flavorful. It's so hard to find any pupusa places in new York cause pupusas aren't really known much but the fact that I'm lucky enough to have tasted two good quality pupusas places. Makes me happy and honestly the atmosphere was great ricas pupusas seemed to be a like a small business and I'm so glad I had the experience. I definitely need to come back and try everything else cause the mixed pupusas were amazing and i don't know what tomato sauce they used it was so so good I highly recommend. I food was so so good the experience was great and the service was fast and the works were so so nice.

I was already kind of full but the entrees we got were also very delicious. I wish I knew how to cook fish or chicken that juicy but keeping the outside crunchy-crispy. 10/10 for all the food. Idk why but the music was so upbeat and it kept me feel rushed for some reason but that might be just me! Haha The service was great, the water kept getting filled and they were very attentive. Would definitely come back again!

4 Stars for dine-in. 3 Stars for delivery…read more I think this is the only Pupuseria in Astoria & am very happy about that! Used to go to the restaurant Mundo in this spot years ago. It's a cozy space just a block from the N/Broadway stop & in the heart of a busy few blocks with a lot of restaurant, cafe, bar, & grocery options. Sometimes I forget about this spot because it's just off the avenue, but it's worth a visit! Have dined in (outdoor seating during the summer) & ordered take-out (placed in-person) before. Usual order are Pupusas (chicharron & loroco + cheese - a tasty herb, like little buds that taste basil/oregano-like), Mojito, Pomegranate juice, Marañon juice (cashew apple fruit - like apple + pineapple). Everything was tasty, fresh & well made. The red sauce (bits of oregano) & curtido (pickled cabbage & carrots, a few chilies) with the pupusas are a must! But 3 Stars for a recent delivery (Sunday evening), the quality of the pupusas weren't great (thick), the Elote Tamale (sweet corn tamale with sour cream) was soggy & tasted tinny. Not sure if it was from the foil and/or it had a leak when it was being boiled. Maybe this item isn't ordered often. Good leak-free packaging for the delivery though - lots of tape! 5 Stars for the female UberEats worker who delivered by bike (in December)! I'll stick to in-person ordering & pick-up (the pupusas take a little time to make, but worth it) & hopefully the quality improves. The service & staff has always been great and it's a cute restaurant for a date or even families!

I love when I find a place that's reasonably priced and delicious. Hidden amongst a neighborhood…read morefull of mainly Korean restaurants, this El Salvadoran restaurant was a true joy to find and try out. They offer a lunch special for $13 but we all opted for the 3 taco set that comes in either beef or chicken that comes with rice and beans. The taco shell was a hard shell and tasted so fresh and crunchy like it was homemade. The meat was juicy and delicious and it was dripping it was so good. The tacos were generously topped with lettuce and slice of avocado. The beans seem like they were blended and very tasty. The only downside was the language barrier. We orders 3 beef tacos and 1 chicken taco and they mistakenly brought out 2 chicken and 2 beef. It was a little difficult rectifying the order. We finally decided to bring the chicken order and order another beef set but it took a while for them to understand us. I think it was just a mistake on the kitchen part since when the receipt came, the order was actually for 3 beef and 1 chicken. All food at the end. We also didn't know what pupusas are so had to try it. Omg! We picked the one filled with chicharonnes and cheese. It was $3. Came with a side of coleslaw and dipping sauce. Soooooo good! The decor is very low key- little but old school. It's definitely a laid back atmosphere.

I came here in a pinch for some Pupusas since my usual spot…read morePupuseria el Guanaco. I wasn't sure what to think of the place. It's a little run down. There was one woman behind the counter when I arrived but the restaurant was otherwise empty and deserted. It looked like like no one had been there all day. There's also no set menu apparently as the hot dishes rotate daily. I was there for the pupusas so I didn't focus too much on their hot food. They offer bean and cheese, plain cheese, loroco and cheese and pork and cheese. Each pupusa was $3.75. The owner made the pupusas fresh to order. I told her I was going to the bank so I could pay in cash since I was short on change. I was a little off put when she asked me to leave what I had in the meantime so she could start on the order. I said "like a deposit?". I guess some people order and then don't return? I assured her I would be back to pick up the food. She seemed almost relieved when I actually did return with the money. The pupusas were actually pretty good and tasted fresh. They're not as good as my usual spot or as heavily stuffed. These felt more snacky and less meal sized but still a fine substitute. They came with curtido and salsa. The curtido wasn't great but I liked the salsa.

Wonder if they can keep the doors open long at those prices though, most places that I've see that cheap don't make it so would expect an increase or a closure soon. When I was in it was several types of chicken, mostly bone-in, and two types of slow cooked stew beef, pulled and cubed. I got the cubed. It was cooked well.
