I'm honestly surprised by the bad reviews. I tried a cemita al pastor the guacamole and a chimichanga de tinga and the food was delicious! The cemita was savory and the meat was so good. The guac could use more salt. I would come back and try other items on the menu. Service was quick and attentive. Food came out quick. You also get complimentary chips and salsa. It's a causal spot in the neighborhood playing good music and telemundo on the tv. I'm sure there's sports when games are playing.

Service was great and fast. The tacos were on point and tasted amazing. I would definitely pass on the calamari.

I have given this spot a couple of tries since I live very close to it. Each time I have had my food delivered to my home. I wish I could give it more stars but honestly the food is not that good. I only have tried their cheese birria tacos and mulitas with their consume and they are just bland. The consume does have a good flavor but the meat in the birria tacos are dry and tasteless. I can't say I haven't given this spot a chance, I've ordered from here 3 times. Another thing is that each time I order, my consume is half spilling in the bag, they should definitely wrap their consume in clear plastic wrap to avoid spillage. Don't think I will be ordering from here again.

Amazing food and service! The birria tacos and tostada de pollo are both very good. Not spicy and flavorful. I have also had their chicken tacos and they are very good toooooo.

Located in a small shopping center a block away from Target in College Point is El Gallo Negro. I was in the mood for some authentic Mexican tacos but did not want to make a trek to Jackson Heights. Looking at the menu, they had the right stuff: Tacos Al Pastor, Bistec, Carnitas, and Lengua. Because of Coronavirus, everything is strictly to go. There was also a sign indicating that they are cash only, so ai had to check my pockets. The tacos come topped with onions, cilantro, and guacamole. We ordered tacos pastor (grilled pork), carne asada (grilled beef), and pollo asada (grilled chicken). They also include a grilled scallion and a lime with each taco as well as a grilled jalapeño pepper! The pastor was very well seasoned as was the beef and chicken. The flavor was on par with the tacos I usually get in Jackson Heights. The only let down was that the meat (pork, beef and chicken) was a little dry, but otherwise, it was tasty. TLDR: while I would still go to Jackson Heights for tacos, but if I'm in Whitestone, El Gallo Negro is a good local alternative if I can't make the trips .

If you're looking for a good takeout place, don't order here. Ordered via grubhub to have the order cancelled upon arrival. Called the store and were able to re-order. No idea as to why our order was cancelled. Possibly because this place is Cash-Only.. When re-ordering over the phone we were unable to order cemitas or tortas. They did not have any of the dessert options available on their menu either. Sorry to say I cannot review those items. Over the phone we were told our order would be ready in 15mins, which was great to hear as we were already there! After 15mins we went to pick up our order to which we were told 5 more minutes.. at the 30 minute mark we asked about our order to which the person at the register had walked back to the kitchen, after some arguing it appeared they had never heard about or started our order. 55 minutes later, 2 other parties had came and left with their order and we were still waiting. If we had known this would not be a 5minute later ordeal when we walked in we would not have continued with this order and went elsewhere. An hour later we received our order and brought it home! As for the food: 1 fish taco: cold fish, lettuce and sauces were fresh at least. 1 shrimp taco: shrimps were fried and battered with their tails still on which was an interesting touch, lettuce and sauce were fresh. 1 chicken taco: cold chicken, lettuce and other insides fresh, this taco was double wrapped not sure why the fish & shrimp tacos were not as they seemed to contain more contents. 1 order of maduros: receiving 1 star because these were actually good and lukewarm 1 carnitas taco: nothing special 1 chorizo taco: burnt chorizo 1 carne asada enchilada: cold, if u like lots of radishes, tomato slices, and uncut red onions in your enchiladas the one they make is perfect. The enchiladas did not seem to be wrapped very well or at all. They did a great job of filling our containers with limes, radishes, cucumbers (inedible), and lettuce if that's something you're craving. I'm not sure how 5 tacos, 1 order of maduros, and an order of enchiladas takes an hour and still ends up being cold. I would not recommend this to anyone. I'm not sure who is conducting their safety trainings but during this COVID season the workers were not wearing their masks properly (wearing them on their chins and under their nose) and handling money, food, and personal items (their phone) with ungloved hands. We sanitized everything as best as we could before eating it but a lot of the food was inedible. We were really trying to support a local business during this crazy time. We lost our patience, money, and were not satiated.

Chorizo Taco and Fish taco
Nicole N.

El Gallo Negro is has plenty of Mexican dishes, the menu is pretty extensive with a variety of entrees, appetizers, breakfasts, soups and desserts. The fish taco was huge but tasted like a mini burrito lettuce wrap more than a fish taco. I recommend ordering the elote which is a fresh corn dressed in Mayo and cotija cheese. The tacos de birria was a tasty option, three corn tortillas with a mildly spiced beef or goat stew and a consommé soup which doubled as a dipping sauce.

Avoid! Meats were super overcooked and dry

Surprisingly, it is a dish that is hard to find in the Flushing/Fresh Meadows area especially in a sit down, comfortable restaurant. The Chilaquiles was a nice little plate of deliciousness - I loved the tangy green salsa soaked bed of tortilla with nicely fried over easy eggs (they way I ordered it). A fan of avocado, tomato and onions top the dish as well - it comes with a side of rice and beans. I recently returned when I was in the mood for enchiladas - they have combo option with beef, chicken and cheese. I ordered them divorced style with both red and green salsa. It comes blanketed with a shredded lettuce salad with tomato, onions and avocado. Rice and beans round out the dish. A couple of other dishes I tasted were the eggs with chorizo and the chimichanga - both were very good. I love their house salsas both a dark red and green one. They bring out tortilla chips with a thick salsa that is tomato-ey sweet. They have a full bar if you are so inclined and the service is very good here.

Not fluent in English, but very friendly service. They have an extensive menu! They give complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa is a sweet tomato-y salsa and the chips are crisp. The Chimichanga with Cecina (Salted Beef) was stuffed! Crisp fried exterior, covered in flavorful red (tomato-y) and green (herb-y) sauces. The cecina is perfectly salted. I enjoyed the guac and chips (same as the complimentary chips) and pico on the side added freshness. They also have a house red and green sauce, which have a good kick and flavor to them. The Pineapple Juice is the right amount of sweetness and tart. I like that there's no ice so it's a full glass of juice! Overall a neat local spot to hit up for good food and friendly service (and a full bar!).

3.5 I'm glad this…read moreplace finally opened up! I've been meaning to try the food from this small chain, and this location is so much more convenient than the Bayside one, since it's in a shopping center with parking. As for the average rating, I'm hoping this was just growing pains from the new opening. The staff seemed a bit unorganized. While they were friendly, we had one person helping us, then another person took over, and then the original person came back. It was a bit confusing, especially when several workers were trying to use the register and direct others about different orders while we were waiting to pay. On the positive side, the place is clean and well-lit. The assembly line and counter area are tidy, and the portions seem larger than what you'd get at Chipotle. As for the food, we had the steak bowl, loaded nachos with honey chipotle chicken, and churros. I'd definitely recommend the honey chipotle chicken--it was seasoned just right: a little sweet and with a nice bit of heat. The steak was well-seasoned but unfortunately a bit dry. The churros were okay. I'm hopeful that next time I visit, they'll be a bit more organized.

I arrived exactly on time, but the two female employees working there were extremely unwelcoming and acted annoyed that customers had walked in. They clearly saw us enter but did not greet or acknowledge us. I had to approach them first and explain that I was there to pick up my order. They looked completely confused and told me they had no record of it. I pulled up my order confirmation, and they then said they had not printed the order and claimed that I was supposed to call the restaurant after ordering online. Excuse me? The confirmation email never said that I needed to call and confirm. Also, what is the point of offering online ordering if customers still have to call afterward? I could have just placed the entire order over the phone. What made the situation even worse was the employee's attitude. Instead of apologizing or taking responsibility for missing a prepaid catering order, she acted as though it was somehow my fault. When I asked how long it would take to prepare the food, she said she already had other things to do and showed no willingness to make the order. It honestly felt like she simply did not want the extra work. At that point, I no longer felt comfortable eating food prepared by people who were treating the situation this way, so I requested a refund. She said she needed to call the manager, as though refunding a prepaid order that they failed to prepare required further debate. I had placed the order two days in advance, paid in full, and arrived at the scheduled pickup time. They missed the order, refused to prepare it, and then continued wasting my time while I had guests waiting at a party with not enough food. Their mistake negatively affected my entire event. After I became visibly upset, the employee finally printed a receipt and told me the refund would appear within two days. Several days passed, and I still received nothing, so I had to dispute the charge with my credit card company. This is extremely poor management and customer service. I had visited this location several times before and had already encountered other female employees with similarly rude and uninterested attitudes. I kept giving this place another chance only because it is close to my home, but this was the final straw. I will not be returning.

We walked up to a casual, convenient setup with ordering kiosks and a quick pickup-style format that works well for a fast meal. The concept is simple, focusing on Mexican street-style birria with tacos, mulitas, and other dishes built around slow-cooked meat and flavorful consommé. The food court setting means seating is shared, and the atmosphere depends more on the mall environment than the restaurant itself, making it a practical stop for a quick meal while exploring the area. The main highlight is the birria tacos, which come packed with flavorful meat and pair especially well with the consommé for dipping. We ordered a few and found the consommé to be the standout item, with a rich, savory flavor that added a lot to the tacos. The tacos are on the smaller side, so ordering multiple is the better way to fully enjoy the meal, and the mulita and other menu options are also good choices if you want something more filling. The quality of the food is what makes Birria Landia stand out. The flavors are bold, the meat is well seasoned, and the combination of crispy tortillas with the juicy birria creates the kind of texture that makes the dish enjoyable. The main downside is the pricing, especially compared to the original food truck experience. Being inside a mall location makes it feel more expensive than what you might expect for street-style tacos, and the value feels less competitive given the portion size. The ordering process is simple and efficient, with the food coming out relatively quickly. The staff handled the flow well, and the kiosk system made it easy to customize orders without holding up the line. Since it is located inside a food court, seating is shared, so it can get busy during peak hours, but it works well for grabbing a quick meal while exploring the area. Birria Landia is a solid spot for birria tacos, especially if you are looking for a flavorful and casual meal. The consommé and taco combination is the reason to visit, and while the prices are higher than a traditional street setup, the quality of the food makes it worth trying. It offers a dependable, quick birria fix in a convenient location, even if the mall setting takes away some of the street food charm.

Loved it, very very filling and probably didn't need the rice and beans. That being said, the rice and beans were very tasty! The taco was good, grabbed an al pastor but the chilaquiles are still my favorite. They had champurrado which is a Mexican hot chocolate that's hard to come across.
