Good food. But they don't tell you ahead of time that it's cash only. Yikes! No signs, no note on the menu, nothing. Ah well - the food is good, it's a clean place, service is a bit slow but not bad (and nearly zero communication in English). Just point to what you want on the menu (if you don't speak Spanish - the dozen words I know weren't helpful). Fried tacos (taquitos) were good. Absolutely smothered with salad, sour cream, and cheese. Good stuff. Fried tamales were good too - served with a cup of mayonnaise (I think) and a slab of cheese. The only downside was there was no filling - just a slab of deep fried masa (reminded me of a sweet hot water cornbread). Good and tasty. I just wasn't expecting it to have no filling. I was looking for a decent place on the Ave for a lunch date and I had confidence in this place. It looks pretty clean and has decent seating. When I got in none of the waitresses spoke English, no biggie. I ordered tacos and then was told they do not sell them anymore... so the menu is inaccurate. I ordered two separate drinks for two separate ppl and got one single drink. I will say the service is not the best but the waitress was friendly and from what we did order the food was pretty tasty. Lots of options and with the help of the staff, you can navigate your way through and land on some really good choices. I went with a bean and cheese pupusa, an order of skirt steak with rice, beans, and salad, and a side of fried yucca. Each of the dishes was fresh and made to order, so it was superb. The waitress was patient and helpful and let me sample a few of the homemade drinks before I settled on passion fruit (the tamarind was also delicious). Real talk here, I've had the real deal Salvadorian food in my country straight out of the airport upon landing in Olucuilta. Without prejudice, i picked the first pupusa place i saw and i ate there and the pupusas were amazing. The chicharron tasted like real pork, a bit fatty well seasoned and the masa for the pupusas also had a good taste. Having come back from my homeland, i go to Nuria's thinking all is going to be good. Let me start by telling you, if you read the other reviews. Well is true, if you are hungry do hope and pray you get service at your table. Waitress takes long to acknowledge your presence. Longer to put the order and because they do not write the order down they end up giving you items you did not want. I asked for black coffee, i got cafe con leche. I order a variety of pupusas, revueltas, queso y jalapeño, chicharrón and the special with frijol, queso and chicharrón and when they were delivered to the table the server had no idea what pupusas were on the plate. I asked politely if she could tell me and her reply was you did not ask for them to be separated and i didnt put them on the plate. The tamal de elote was extremely dry, not creamy and it was warm at best. The tamal de pollo had better tasting masa but the chicken bones had been crushed inside of the tamal so it becomes a chocking hazard. I asked for tap water and the waitress looked at me and she hesitated to ask and tell me if i wanted bottle water??? Really. I am salvadorian 100% and i am a shamed to say that this restaurant represents the cuisine of el salvador. Honestly they should really rethink their menu. The pupusas were mediocre at best. The chicharron had a lot fat, it was not well seasoned and it probably had parts of the pig that were either meat organ or just raw fat. I end up not eating the chicharron pupusas, what a waste. We got a small container with 2 or 3 ounces of curtido, really? I had to ask for more because it was only enough for 1 person, yet 2 of us were having pupusas. I am highly disappointed that they boast to have amazing salvadorian food when they cannot even make a pupusa correctly. Most places they bring you the drinks and water to the table, here they got it backwards and we got it last and it was the wrong order. Will not come back and waste my money at this place. We were looking for a great El Salvadoran restaurant along jamaica Ave. We found this place conveniently placed by Van wyck expressway, Van Wyck E train, and the JFK AirTrain station. The food and service was amazinggggg. The portions are "take me home you will not finish me" size. We ordered a lot but the entrees not knowing how huge everything would be. But no complains here!!! From all of the dishes we posted, none can top the other. All bring equally as tasteful as the next dish. 100% recommend the Horchata, and the chicken enchiladas! This is a Salvadoran restaurant with the best Pupusas , the side of the Rio Grande. They're thin and filled with meat. They are by no means like the dough hockey pucks you get at other places. These are genuinely meat filled patties. The flavor is out of this world . My favorite is plain shredded pork . I don't even need the cabbage slaw or tomato sauce . Though both are excellent with this. I usually eat them in the car on the way home. They almost never make it all the way to the house. When I do dine in, I enjoy Pupusas with the cabbage, slaw and tomato sauce. The owner and her family are all incredibly helpful and kind. This place is amazing! One star for the food and 0 if I could for the customer service. We ordered 3 pupusas, guacamole,two orders of pollo frito with rice and salad, and a side order of retried beans. Honestly everything was good except for the refried beans. They seemed like like they might have been burned. The service on the other hand was BAD. We wanted to eat in so we originally walked over to the counter because there was no host/greeter and their desk in the front labeled "reception". The lady at the counter told us to just have a seat anywhere. We sat for 15 minutes before our server came to hand us menus. She then disappears for another 15 minutes before returning and she asks what we want to order (never asked for our drink order). I eventually asked for water and we ordered what I described in the beginning of this review. When ordering I was also torn between the "roasted" chicken (what the menu says), and the fried chicken. So I asked the server which one she preferred and she firstly said "we don't serve roasted chicken it's baked" although the menu says "roasted". Anyway, she danced around the question so I went with the fried chicken. So after she took the order, we waited about 40 minutes for this food. If the lady had any common sense she could have at least brought the pupusas and guacamole out while we waited for the entrees. And it didn't help that the table that we chose wasn't very big so when she decided to bring EVERYTHING out at once some of our items were hanging off of the table which could have resulted in a huge mess. But it's okay, I used MY common sense and placed the excess items on the table next to us. I did like the food overall, but I personally will be in search of an el Salvadoran restaurant with at least quicker/friendlier service. This place makes the absolutely best pupusas and tamales in Queens. I've been enjoying pupusas tamales for nearly 30 years since I was very young. I have traveled as far as Brooklyn and even Westchester just to buy the best. Since I discover this place there is no need to drive that far for the best. Whether if their food is considered authentic to people from El Salvador, that's for them to decide but for me, I found their food delicious! It's a short walk away from Jamaica Hospital. The first thing we ordered was their horchata beverage. It's a beverage that taste like grounded almonds, hints of sesame seeds, and strong on barley and rice. It reminds me of flavors from a Japanese or a Korean barley tea. It's very refreshing. The chicken chicharrons is the main event here. It is extremely crispy and tender when they serve it. Every bite has a crunch to it. You also must order their yucca frita. It has a crispy crunchy skin texture and they don't salt them. It's purposely made bland so that you could salt them yourself to your own liking. We also ordered their pupusas. It was very good especially with their green hot sauce! The service was great, there's plenty of seating and finding parking wasn't too difficult in this section of Jamaica Ave. I highly recommend trying the horchata and their chicharrons for your first visit. The food is good, but the hassle you'll receive trying to get your order right is not worth it. Been here at least half a dozen times for small and big orders and every time there's a problem. Forgot items, charged the wrong price and even gave me the wrong order. Their website says they take credit cards, but their machine broke months ago and they never bothered to fix it or to update their site. Their solution is to use an ATM in the front of the restaurant, but that's broken too. Don't waste your time, money or patience. read more

Went there on October 27th at roughy 11 am. Food was good however....the wait was beyond ridiculous. Ordered their typical dish which consists of eggs, beans and sausage and it took appx 45 minutes for the food to arrive. Eggs take 2 minutes to cook, shouldn't have been that long... this is not the first time I visit this place and each time prior it had been the same issue. The young lady that served us (long hair, NOT the one with glasses) was very sweet and apologetic, and we completely understand that kitchen matters are out of her hands. I am so disappointed with the customer service in this place specially from the owner. I recently placed an order of about $150 worth of food and today I placed a pick up order for about another $50. When I went to check that all was in the bag I ordered four tamales de elote but they only give me two creams. When I went back in I asked the owner about it and he said the order only comes with one. I told him I was willing to pay for it and the employee brought out two more creams I asked him how much I owed him and he had the nerve to tell me $3 that's how much I paid for two tamales!!! I frequent this restaurant for lunch. Business is Moderate each time I go. I've had the steak dinner, the grilled chicken dinner and the stewed chicken dinner. The place is clean and usually some Spanish current events or soccer is playing on the tv. The staff greets you timely. The food takes time so if you're pressed for time do not have lunch there. I say this as a compliment of the freshness of the food which can be seen in each presentation every time I have been there. A true "cook to order" place as if I came Home to my own family cooked meal. Spices are not heavy. Rather, the food is tasty. The wait staff is knowledgeable and great at suggestions. Even took the time to explain the cultural significance of corn tortilla at dinner. The restroom is super clean and comfortable. Kudos on their consistency.
