Since my last review, I've been to Elder Pine frequently. I can definitely appreciate the regularity, great ambiance, and good people. Not to mention the beer is really good! Plenty of options for seating, whether inside, outside on their deck, or out in the woods. They have a food truck, which I mentioned in my prior review...but the nachos are still BANGIN! Jay and Sandy are really great and provide excellent customer service. My favorite beer is Moonscribe, but even when they're out, I always find something else to enjoy. They have plenty of options to cater to most beer drinkers and alternate quite often. The vibe is chill, and they have events often. Dont miss out on Pines and Needles on Thursdays, where you can bring a vinyl and listen while you enjoy a cold one....one of our favorite nights to attend. Five stars for the chili from the food truck my tip here add it to the nachos and you will have a surprisingly good plate of nachos. Get extra chili on the side you can dip your chips in. There is no service this is a working brewery people are pleasant enough but somewhat brief and direct. You order your nachos via the code or walk up to the food shack. Where the chef and his lovely wife are so personable and nice with your special requests (no dairy no gluten) that you will come back for a second bowl of chili with his homemade pickles jalapeños. You can walk to the pine forest and eat at a picnic table beneath the trees or sit indoors (some smell of brewery) or eat on their covered patio. Non alcoholic is limited to Boylan creme soda, root beer or water. It is worth the trip imho for the chili - it is very good chili and he is entirely too modest about it. read more

This place is magical. The beer is delicious and lots of variety for all flavor profiles. The outdoor seating area is amazing though. Truly feels like medieval times drinking a pint in the woods with fairy lights strung above. Very relaxing. There's also a food truck on site but you can bring your own food. This joint is a barn in the middle of nowhere, but that's likely so they aren't distracted from their purpose in life... making solid beer. Tried 5-6 of them and liked nearly every one. The bottle of Compendium gleamed like an artifact unearthed from a forgotten monastery of fermentation. Its label, engraved with a tome mid-decay, promised wisdom more than refreshment. The first sip confirmed it: a blend of 1-, 2-, and 3-year barrel-aged wild ales, tasting faintly of apricot, hay, and the slow entropy of oak. It was bright but patient, tart without cruelty, a living archive of microflora translating time into tang. Drinking it beside a glowing screen, the glass half-lit like an amber relic, you could almost feel civilization collapsing into its own yeast bloom. The tacos from the truck were a reminder of the body's simpler needs -- cilantro, onion, grease, the moral gravity of lime. Two amiable dogs wandered through the taproom, their presence proof that not all beings require purpose to bring peace. What began as a gesture of repayment for a friend became a quiet ceremony of gratitude and fermentation, a small echo of how humans make meaning from the living and the perishable. Hands down the best high quality brewery establishment in the area and there are many... I live 10-15 minutes away and feel blessed that they are doing what they do so nearby. They truly take their craft seriously. I like Waredaca and Beer Farm as well as they have their flashes of brilliance, but Elder Pine is for the beer connoisseur (maybe even snob as I am sometimes accused of). Lone Oak is OK too but to me that is more focused on the social experience than the beer. 10/5 stars for the beers at EP. Ignore the negatives for the food truck issues. Are you here to review a food truck that happens to park there, or the brewery??? My current favorite- Praamzius barrel aged. Awesome. Also love the rauchbier Imperator (more than the current Empyre) please consider doing that one again! Too many others to name.. Mostly EP in that photo- few Waredaca. read more

I didn't see a food truck but i did try a flight of four beers: Empyreumatic - Helles Rauchbier (Smoke lager) best Rauchbier I've had outside of Germany; Pliable Foe - British dark beer (like a very mild porter); Moonscribe II - Belgian Blonde (it's tru blondes have more fun- pleasantly surprising, subtle citrus flavor); Bitter Geezer - Extra slSpecial Bitter ( true to the style and very tasty) This would be a great spot to stop for a pint or two on a bike ride to relax under the pines and enjoy good company read more

Update a few years later: Now crowing this one of Maryland's best breweries. I have been several times and already have a great time. The staff is friendly and helpful, it's dog friendly, and there's multiple seating options. The best seating is they have set up chairs and tables in the woods - it's super unique and a very peaceful place to drink beer. Most importantly - the beer is great!! And they really try to mix it up. Every time I go there is something new. One of my favorites was a smoked beer I had when it was cooler out. I love all the experimentation. They had a food truck when we went and everything was pretty good! I love that you can do flights but some beers only came in cans. My only complaint is not enough beers on tap! I really like this place. I moved to Florida recently, but this is one of the places I had to revisit on my first trip back to the state. The place has a good selection of places to relax and enjoy the weather. They have a cozy pine grove in the back with picnic tables and Adirondack chairs. Be sure to look up at the pine canopy above you. They have some picnic tables in the open with umbrellas. There is a covered patio with apce heaters. The main building itself has tables, a bar, and some games, along with an impressive collection of aging barrels on the wall. They have a rotating food truck on the weekends, often with BBQ. The beer is good. Usually there are a dozen choices of brews. They have a cooler with beer to go. They have a lot of IPA's (like most brewers these days, unfortunately), but they will always have some lagers and ales to try too. It is a lovely place to spend an afternoon in nature. read more

I wish I could have stayed longer! My husband and I were in the area this weekend and stopped by for a beer. The website kept stating they have limited seating so I was concerned that upon arrival we wouldn't get a seat. They have a huge deck in the back that is beautifully decorated with an outside bar. There are also several picnic tables in the wood line that allow for social distancing. If I had brought my pup, those are the seats I probably would have chose. The bartenders was super welcoming and friendly. They were knowledgeable about the beer selection. I tried the IPA while my husband tried the double IPA and one of the sours. All three beers were delicious. Unfortunately we were unable to stay long but would definitely visit again if in the area! read more

I just received a VERY sincere apology from the woman who I referenced in my prior review. The fact that she both took the time out of her day to write me, and the fact that she recognized my feelings and perspective on the situation was really appreciated. It really means a lot. She also addressed some of the issues I raised in my review in terms of assigning tables, and the rules prohibiting adding chairs to the tables to maximize social distancing. It now makes total sense to me that they're getting parties information and assigning seating for contact tracing purposes, in addition to making sure tables that have been used are properly cleaned and sanitized before other parties go and sit at them. Good news is that she also informed me that the table capacity has been increased from six people to ten in the past week, so they are currently planning to allow people to bring chairs into the grassy area. They are also currently looking into possibly increasing capacity in the pines; which I truly think is one thing amongst others that makes Elder Pine stand out amongst other breweries. I think that it speaks a lot to the breweries staff that she wanted to right a perceived wrong, and that she cared how it impacted me. That said, I am looking forward to going back to Elder Pines in the future. And I can definitely say with some surety that the staff there does really care about their customers and is aiming to improve experiences across the board. read more

I'm not a beer drinker but there's no place else to review the Elder Pine food truck. I got this: Two Story Chimney Braised Pork Sandwich with pickled green apples, baby arugula, caramelized onions and lime yogurt dressing. It was huge and IT WAS ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL! I wish I lived closer because I would definitely go back again and again. Just one small complaint: The square.site online ordering interface kept adding a 15% tip even though a) I hadn't even been served yet and b) I kept changing it to 0. Needless to say, it didn't even offer a 'no tip' option. (Since when is one supposed to give a tip for counter service?) But, like I said, that's a small complaint. GO THERE AND ORDER THE BRAISED PORK SANDWICH! read more

One star for their "suggestion" not to bring children. Everyone is a kid at some point in their life and who needs a drink more than a hardworking parent? It's sad to see a business so anti-family, especially at a time when the US population is declining. Kids are the future... Love Elder Pine for the serene romantic setting and beer selection. There are three main areas to sit at: in benches in the grove of tall pines (which are adorned with string lights), a covered area outside with its own limited- selection bar, and inside the barn. Food options are limited, especially if a bunch of meat is not your opinion of food, but I'm only ranking on hanging out spot and drinking beer, which it's superb on. The beer manages to stand out while not being overly strange. Some faves are the smoked lagers and Japanese rice lager. Crowd tends to be child-free and relaxed, but doggos are typically hanging around. read more

If you're looking for a cool brewery to check out, you've found it! A decent sized tap menu that includes nitro options-- and they do flights! I enjoyed all of the beers I tried, especially the Hazy IPAs. They do not serve food, but had a food truck while we were there that was delicious. Something cool I noticed on their website is that they deliver beer to your DC doorstep on Wednesdays, and MD locations within 30 miles of the brewery. Oh, and pet friendly! Most breweries seem to rush through their process trying to brew as much as possible, and you can tell by the watered down, flat beer. Not EP! Their beer has rich body, taste, and the perfect carbonation for each pour which is served at the right temp. These are all critical factors, and the fact that EP gets it right for each pour, tells you how much they value quality. They have the best beer around and I'm a huge (new) fan! read more

Wow Elder Pine Brewery is no doubt has some of the best beers I've ever tried!! They've taken Maryland craft beers to another level!! Very impressed with the quality of every single beer here. Lots of outdoor space hidden away from the road. Definitely recommend trying a taster to find your favorite. Witbier - balanced citrus note with an aromatic fizz, refreshing w/o being too light. Pink boots - as fun as it sounds with a fruity note, well balanced Anti hot hazy IPA - must get - a lovely complex, very balanced IPA with active hops. Lots of nose flavor, sharp happiness like a WC ipa with a mellow vanilla finish. Sip. Drink. Whatever you do it's that good!!! this is an award winner if I saw one!! Niveous dune - coppery notes from the malt. Beautiful classic that you would pop open on a Friday afternoon. Tips: private lot parking that fills up on nice days, games available indoors, tasters are 3x4oz for $8 or 4x4oz for 10.5. Okay, I'm going to start this five star review off with a disclosure. I'm reviewing a brewery, and I don't like beer. I would rather eat cilantro than drink beer. Rachel Carson Park is around the corner, and I walk there frequently. I've driven past the brewery, and stopped by a few times, usually with my partner (who does like beer). Elder Pines is a gorgeous location, with lots of outdoors, open space. There's a nice, indoor bar that I've stopped in during quiet times, and also a large back porch. That have "Vittels in the Pines," a barbecue spot that operates a food truck like spot. It's surprisingly great. The beers are supposedly quite good, but what I absolutely love is that they have other options, too. They have great soft drinks, something woefully lacking at many breweries and such. It's nice to have options for those driving, and I'm glad they offer them. Food, drinks, and options? It's a win all around. Weekends here are busy. Ridiculously so, and parking usually fills up fast. read more

I was introduced to them during the pandemic when they delivered which we took advantage of a couple times. We particularly loved their resealable crowlers. My wife, best friend, and I came here two weeks prior to this past Saturday after going to Waredaca and were very impressed. The scenery is unique for Montgomery County as it is located in a pine forest. They have outdoor seating in the forest as well as inside their large rustic facility. The beer was all amazing as was their Korean-American fusion food of which me and my wife shared Kimchee Elote Grilled Cheese and an Elder Burger (with kimchee). We also took some of their beer home that we loved including a growler of the Festival Lager, a 4-pack of the Cerveza Viejo Especial, a bottle of The Last Lights Are All Fire, and a bottle of Horizons Shifting Snow in Blue that was not on tap that day. Our favorite on tap was the Summon The Moon Lord (16% English Barleywine) but they had none of it to go. We look forward to returning to try more of their wonderful beer and food. read more

Really nice open property with lots of different seating. They have this wonderful little section in the wood with tables and chairs which we enjoyed. They have a pretty large beer selection and we tried 7 types. Love that they're doggy friendly. Unfortunately they only have food trucks there on the weekends now but they had some free pizza when we were there randomly which was nice. Beer was not bad-- our favorites were Sawayaka, EL Pils, and transpire. Would come back again for the nice ambiance and to try the food trucks. read more
