I have been shopping at this local ACE Hardware (Elder's in Smyrna, TN) store for years. The customer service (hourly employees) has always been amazing. The current manager, however, is a jerk! Chris A. lacks social skills when it comes to customer service; and, he seems to "bully" his employees in the way he talks to them. He doesn't seem to know his own job very well, to the extent of having to ask the Assistant Mgr. about the computer, what they had in stock, where to find an item, etc... The Asst. Mgr. and the employees seem to have to "work around" him to deliver the customer service that they have been known for! read more

We came in because a dresser we ordered from Amazon was missing 51 cam bolts, and they went above and beyond to help us. Chris and Mike patiently helped us find bolts that fit perfectly. They matched the size and even counted each one out to make sure we had exactly what we needed. They were incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and genuinely cared about helping us solve our problem. Recently renovated. Amazing selection, and incredibly kind and helpful staff! Came in for air filters, (which were a great price and buy 3 get 1 free!) we were greeted and helped by multiple staff. The place looks amazing. They have an attached gift shop with beautiful items. Kids even got a free gift at the end. Will definitely be back. read more

Located at the intersection of Nissan Drive, Sam Ridley Parkway and Jefferson Drive, this unassuming hardware store has workers who are knowledgeable, polite, and very helpful. Most of them were old-timers that come across as very experienced in their field. I needed an item and stopped by because I heard about the customer service and was frankly tired of the big-box hardware stores. I was greeted as soon as I came in the door and was shown options for what I needed. The cashier was nice and friendly and I was on my way in a jiff. The building is in a run-down strip mall but it is convenient to where I live and seems to be pretty safe. read more

This Ace IS the Place! If you are a glutton for punishment - go to one of the big box stores. They have a ton of employees whose main goal in life is to avoid eye contact and go on a smoke break. I may exaggerate a little, but why would you want to walk three miles (there I go again) to find a Torx screw to fit that obscure electronic and have to buy a couple of hundred of them in the bulk pack when all you need is ONE! Ace is ALWAYS my first stop when I'm in the mood for hardware. As soon as I walk in the door, it seems there is always someone waiting to lend a hand. It has been the rare occasion when I have gone there and they didn't have what I needed. Note to Ace - you need to stock up on left-handed screwdrivers.... Seriously, I have found multiple items here that I could have gotten somewhere else, but why should I when I can be in and out of here in under 10 minutes and only have a short walk to my truck parked close to the door. Also, the prices are always comparable and on occasion they have that obscure part that the guy at Lowes is still scratching his head over what I could possibly use that for. Plus - POPCORN!!! Most Saturday's there is free freshly popped popcorn - not that big of a deal, but at the other place the best you can hope for is a boy scout on the sidewalk selling smart cards or hot dogs.... read more

On top of the most helpful and polite staff in the entire universe this place is a throw back of stories like our grandparents told us. Or even a mental image of Michael J foxes dad's hardware store in teen wolf. Makes you appreciate how shopping life once was and should be again. Nothing like a gigantic box store that have taken over the world. If we ever get visited by exter terrestrials they would definitely look at us and shake their heads at the 208,089,978,868,089 Walmart's we have. I'll start with admitting I have blocks of shares in one of the big box store chains. That's my opening shot because each time I shop here it puts a minor dent in my retirement. But not everything is about money. This is by far the best hardware store in the area. Not only do they have what you need, the staff is more than happy to show you where it's at. Every visit here has been darn near perfect. One thing I'm afraid to admit...it's not unusual for me to stop by during lunch and just walk around. This place really is a playground for adults. I haven't been in the store, but ordered something through Ace's website, and Gil's was to deliver. First delivery was put off a week, then never delivered on the 2nd delivery date, no phone call or email in either instance. It was almost two weeks, I'll buy somewhere else. Too bad, I like buying local. read more

Also known as Gil's Ace Hardware, this place is pretty darn excellent in my book! They have a great selection of keys for cutting, Automotive (including transponder) keys, house keys, I even got my motorcycle keys dubbed. (OEM Honda key was $24 UNCUT from Sloan's; Gil's had the generic key and charged me about $2.00 total CUT-- works perfectly.) Prices are fair, workers are friendly, selection is good. I am docking 1 star due to hours: 8-5 M-Sat. What about homeowners who work office hours? It's darn difficult to sacrifice food to hit the hardware store on your lunch break. There is Saturday I suppose, if you don't have a million other more pressing things to do. I'll make it 5-stars if hours are extended till at least 6pm. read more

5 employees in the store and not one of them knew anything about my Echo trimmer. Staff wasn't very helpful, they seemed woefully incompetent, and I knew more about their products than they did. I wound up going to Home Depot where I got exactly what I needed! I won't be returning to this Ace Hardwsre store again. Very disappointing. read more
