The bathrooms are as original as they can make them, while addressing the need to be ADA compliant, and updated where necessary, and the furnishings are "period" from the 1950's or earlier. Please remember, this is a retro motel. There are no TV's, there is no pool, the is no "free breakfast". What you will get is a safe, clean comfortable room and a good night's sleep just like grandma and grandpa when they were traveling across country in their DeSoto. The 1930's-40's vintage sign is a work in progress, so despite what it says, there is no Color TV, there is however one concession they have allowed for; there is Wi-Fi.

We enjoyed the indoor and outdoor water slides, something you won't find hardly ever. We played putt putt golf after. The entire perimeter of the property is dedicated to fun activities for kids. You can tell it is family owned and they take pride in it. From the fully stocked pool towels, the spotless rooms, the clean fresh scent everywhere, and the well maintained facilities and amenities - nothing here has been allowed to slide. Everything is open longer than other hotels, the service is fast and friendly, outside is well lit and spotless. Chain hotels around here charge more, and offer much less. I highly recommend!

Had a nice mini fridge, tv, coffee maker, a table to eat at, a desk, and in the bathroom they had makeup remover wipes to prevent people from ruining the nice white wash clothes. They also had the softest sheets I've ever seen at a hotel. This place is right on the water and across from a gas station and dollar general. It is 5-7 mins from Coconuts for your bar/partying needs. Very close to several small bars and restaurants. Great location. They have boats and kayaks to rent if you'd like! Also the woman at the desk offered to pick us up if we couldn't find a ride and drank too much. I am not sure where to begin with this place. Unfortunately, we don't have any other options but to stay here when we are in town visiting family. The woman who runs this hotel is BEYOND rude! If there were any competition in this city she would be out of business. On a positive side, the grounds of the property are nicely groomed, nothing fancy but cute! They offer a few different rentals, BBQ pits, and a nice sun dock. The rooms themselves are fairly clean (beyond a few hairs) but again nothing special. Our room had a very musty smell, loud air-conditioner, lack of towels, low functioning shower, and to top it off a fly swatter hanging in the bathroom! Positives in the room were a fridge and a nice TV. The worst part about this location is the woman who runs it- absolutely rude, inconsiderate, and down right nasty! Had dinner at HK's one night - dinner was fine, but it was clear the property is in disrepair; the window we sat next to had a big crack in it, and we could see outside that the wood over the walkway was rotting out and the landscaping needed a good weeding and cleanup. But once you get to know the people and history, you find the heart of a town that is so warm, kind and real. We love the vibe of this Iron Horse Hotel. It's not your typical hotel--it's truly a unique old-town experience. The ceilings are high, the furniture is antique and the details are divine. Other than an occasional train (which is part of the history) it's so quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed our stay and if we are ever in the area again, we'd definitely stay here! After having dinner with friends in Columbia, we came back expecting to just chill at the Iron Horse but stumbled across a fun group at Dapper Daq. We had so much fun with them! In the morning when we checked out, we visited Christina's for breakfast and she made a wonderful spread. We left Blackwater feeling like we escaped the rush of highways, business chains and everyday life. Disclosure: there is no tv or shower--only a claw-foot bathtub. There are no dinner restaurants or gas stations. None of this bothered us. It added to the whole experience! I treated myself to a long bath and enjoyed the quiet (no tv, no car traffic, etc).

Now I have to dispute the charge. Don't book on line. The room stunk, the door doesn't seal when fully shut. You can hear everyone around you because it's poorly insulated and just a dirty property.
